Cara Hunter does it again! A gripping, thrilling read I’ll recommend to everyone time and time again! Can’t wait for the next book!

This is a really really good read! This book has a dual storyline. One storyline is a sexual assault charge and the other is a murder case. Each storyline is as enthralling of the other. The first storyline centres around a student/Professor relationship but what is unusual and unique is that the professor is a woman. Second storyline is about an old murder case. This is a very successful crime thriller. The writing creates unbelievable tension and it is quite literally unputdownable. I loved how the writing was peppered with interviews, phone calls, voicemails etc which makes it very appealing and modern. To my shame this is the first Cara Hunter book I have ever read, but of course I have now ordered books 1 to 4 in the series!

This was a very exciting police procedural investigation. There was a continual feeling of urgency throughout the story. Great characters with clashing personalities and two complex issues.. The way it all unwinds towards the end, was very compelling and I loved the final twist at the end.

I ABSOLUTELY loved this book. I have never read any books by Cara Hunter before but now I have added the entire series to my Amazon wishlist, including the book that is due out after The Whole Truth. I just found the plot was full of twists and turns and was such an enjoyable read. To say I hadn't read any of the series, the characters weren't too complex to get to know and there was a very helpful overview of each character at the beginning just in case. I can't wait to read other books by Cara Hunter.

A unique story of how a DI gets indicted for murder while he was investigating a sexual assault case.. When a serial killer with remission emerges from prison. DI Fawley and his wife feel a little apprehensive as when he was put away, he was swearing retribution , claiming he was innocent. So, when the man was released, he was tagged and kept far away, which did not do much to allay the DI’s wife's fears when she was seeing a white van parked nearby that she sensed was watching them. When a woman gets raped and killed the evidence causes the DI to be arrested for a crime that had all the hallmarks of the released killer who has a cast iron alabi. How the wife bed ridden, about to give birth solves the mystery makes a fantastic story.

‘The Whole Truth’ by Cara Hunter
I was very lucky to have reviewed Cara Hunter’s first book (‘Close to Home’) prior to its publication date and since then I’ve been an ardent follower (I must admit, though, I still haven’t got hold of a copy of ‘All the Rage’).
Her latest, ‘The Whole Truth’, hasn’t disappointed and I devoured it in almost one sitting. Thank goodness for lockdown – but it still meant a late night. It is, yet again, unputdownable. I thought, once or twice I’d worked out the case, only to be put on the back foot again and again. And, without spoiling anything, there are two story lines running through the book almost, but not quite, intermingled with each other. Ms Hunter’s excellent method of imparting information as ‘official’ reports and copies of social media conversations continues to work well, as do the flash backs giving us a glimpse of the victim’s storyline.
D I Adam Fawley and his team are now in my psyche as virtual friends and I look forward in eager anticipation to the next book. In the meantime, I’ll be purchasing a hard copy of ‘The Whole Truth’ as my husband is also now a follower.
This is an independent review of ‘The Whole Truth’ that I received via NetGalley and I’m grateful to the publishers for the opportunity to be able to enjoy this book prior to publication.

This is the fifth book in the DI Adam Fawley series. If you haven't read any if the previous books there is a character introduction at the beginning. But in my opinion it is best to read the series in order as there is a following n in each books both with the characters and previous cases.
The story itself is based on an allegation of sexual abuse between a college student and a member of the college staff, with the victim being male.
I found this book to be a riveting read but I feel I need to read the whole series in order to fully appreciate it.
I would recommend the entire series to anyone who enjoys crime fiction.

The Whole Truth is a book I loved from start to finish and with this being book 5 in this series, I have to say it just gets better and better.
As I read a lot of books it is easy to forget series and I when I started reading I thought, why have you downloaded a police procedural as they are not my favourite types of books but by the end of the first chapter I remembered all about DI Adam Fawley and his wife and didn’t put it down all day until I finished! I have to say I thought it was a massive help at the beginning to list the characters and reacquaint myself with them and think all authors should do this as it made it so much easier to slip back into this series.
This book has many twists and turns and at one point I thought it was all over for DI Adam Fawley. There are two storylines running in this book and they are both really good, yes it relates to things that have happened in earlier books but I think you can definitely read this as a stand-alone.
A really enjoyable read.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Penguin UK, Viking for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

This year, I found Cara Hunter's Close to Home and upon thoroughly enjoying that, have since devoured the complete series. The Whole Truth, the fifth book in Hunter's DI Adam Fawley series, is yet another fast-paced, chaotic thriller. I really enjoyed it.

As always, Hunter's new novel opens with a fantastic mystery, raw characters and excellent writing. There truly is something special with this series, because I for one (and you can ask anyone I know!) really dislike police procedural stories. Yet I've eagerly consumed all five books in this series, still hungry for more. Hunter must be magic.

The Whole Truth does open to a bit of a slow start, yet as soon as the mystery began to pick up, I found myself on the edge of my seat. As with its predecessors, this book contains the unique aspects of various storytelling such as the insert of WhatsApp messages, newspaper articles, and as a first for this series, a podcast script! These diverse methods of narratives really aid in creating a vivid storyline.

I was a bit apprehensive as to how the circumstances Fawley finds himself in would pan out, but I needn't have worried. The ending was truly an adrenaline rush with characters weaving this way and that, creating an atmosphere clouded with both anxiety and optimism. I for one really enjoyed it and eagerly await more from this author.

The main downside for me was that this is part of a series - had I known I’d probably not have requested initially, there was a chart at the beginning to fill you I in on the characters but it wasn’t enough for me. It felt like I was really missing out on the development and backstory - the casual references to things that had previously happened sailed right past me.
The story itself was interesting and well paced, and for fans of the author/character I’m sure it’s a great addition to the series.

Thanks for the opportunity to read this book.

Many thanks to the author, publishers and Netgalley for a free ARC of this ebook.
This book has a great story in it, a real page-turner and for that alone it's worth the effort of reading it. The difficulty for me was in the characters, who were shallow, unbelievable and totally annoying. There are several other books in the series preceeding this one, but the author does a great service in providing a summary of these in the form of a table in the front matter, it's works well and brings the reader up to date.
I'm giving this book 3 stars, the author has worked hard to give us a great story, she succeeds in that but fails on other levels. One serious annoyance for me as the repeated use of the word 'bloody', every character used it time and time again. It looses any impact at all and weakened any statement it was used in. Some good editing would resolve this issue.
I doubt I would seek out any other books by this author, even though she writes a great story there are far too many lapses in good style for me to take this author seriously.

I have heard many good reviews about Cara Hunter books and was very excited to have a copy of her upcoming novel.
I have never read any of the previous collection, therefore, I was hesitant to begin with as I felt I may not know what is happening and follow the plot, however I had no need to worry as at the start of the book you are given a brief bio about the characters which makes the book easy to read and understand what the plot is.
Very enjoyable read with lots of twists and turns which I can imagine it’s like in a real detective investigation. I would highly recommend and I will most definitely be reading the other stories in this collection.

I loved al the previous DI Fawley books and this was one does not disappoint. It follows on from the previous book and continues the story on. I really like the authors style and the way she incorporates social media etc. As before there is a very clever plot which really makes you think and keeps you guessing untiil the end. Easy and enjoyable to read.

This is a novel full of twists and turns.it didn’t keep me gripped as a page Turner however it’s a reasonable read. The characters are believable and the ending is very good. It’s great if you want to pick up and put down a book whilst on holiday.

The fifth book in the series with DI Adam Fawley and his team. This particularly tale has two plots rather than the customary one. I did find it a little confusing at the beginning but all the strands are very cleverly brought together. One plot is very much a he said/she said mystery which is very cleverly drawn out and is probably the reason for the title.
The second plot does involve murder and accusations in the traditional format.
Another success!
Many thanks to Netgalley/Cara Hunter/Penguin for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

I have never read any of the Cara Hunter books before, so I was pleasantly surprised that at the start of the book, I was treated to a bio of all the main characters, which I found very useful, as there is nothing more frustrating when you start to read a book and cannot place who the character is. That said, all the people in the book are very well defined.
The story is a classic 'who did it' detective story, or should I say two stories, and though I thought I had worked it out before the end it finished with a great twist

I will be watching out more by the same author, who managed to devour this book within a week.

The truth certainly gets a work-out in this terrific new addition to Cara Hunter’s excellent crime series set in Oxford, featuring DI Adam Fawley.

First, there is the male postgrad student at an Oxford college who claims he was sexually assaulted by his academic mentor. He’s a six-foot rugby player so did she really try to force herself on him? She’s a professor and high flyer at her college with a lot to lose if the case goes to court, but is she also a predator who thinks she is powerful enough to get away with it?

Next there is the true crime podcast, ‘The Whole Truth,‘ sponsored by an organisation that campaigns to overturn miscarriages of justice. The current series features Gavin Parrie, aka ‘the Roadside Rapist’, arrested by Adam and jailed for rape of several women in 1998, despite maintaining his innocence. Now paroled after twenty years in jail and monitored with an ankle bracelet, the podcast aims to show that the original investigation was flawed and the real rapist never caught. Adam’s wife Alex was one of Parrie’s last victims and because her evidence helped to convict him, she finds herself addicted to listening to the podcast. After all he did threaten her in court and now she’s home alone and heavily pregnant.

And then there is Adam, caught in a nightmare situation where solid forensic evidence points at him as the perpetrator of a shocking crime. Not even his own team can believe he could be innocent; they all know forensic evidence couldn’t be wrong, could it?

This is a beautifully paced book with the parallel plots all being carefully set up, ready to explode into unexpected directions with twists and revelations later in the book. As with the previous books in this series, snippets of information are sprinkled throughout the text in the form of newspaper cuttings, email, social media, police reports and excerpts from the podcast. As well as giving a glimpse of what is happening behind the scenes, this makes for a lively and entertaining reading experience.

One of the strengths of this series is the development of the secondary characters and Adam’s colleagues are not forgotten amongst the drama as they progress with their lives and careers. The sexual abuse case was sensitively handled and raised interesting issues in the gender politics that occur in this type of case. This is the fifth book in the series and, is best read in sequence to really get to know the characters and their backstories. However, the author does give an excellent summary for each character before the start of the novel, making it possible to read it as a stand-alone.

Overall, this was a compelling, gripping read with plenty of suspense and tension as the stakes are raised high before the whole truth emerges.
