Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a very different slant on sexual assault. Went along at a cracking pace. Will read the previous books in the series.

I really enjoyed this thriller, it's my first from this author and I'm now keen to go back and read the previous 4 in this series. The characters are well-developed, rounded and I liked the different personalities in D.I. Fawley’s team.

There are two main plotlines, one concerning the sexual assault, the other about D.I. Fawley’s wife and a murder case from 18 years ago. They intersected well and I enjoyed following the Police procedure. There's great use of modern communications to develop the story e.g. text messages and podcasts. The story draws the reader in straight away, it’s believable and well-paced with great twists.

Also review in Polish of this book which is titled Mroczna Prawda - I reviewed in both languages on my bookstagram

Recenzja: Piąta książka w serii inspektora Fawleya, można czytać oddzielnie.

Bardzo podobał mi się ten thriller. Postacie są dobrze rozwinięte i podoba mi się zespól D.I. Fawleya. Są dwa główne wątki, jeden dotyczący napaści na tle seksualnym, drugi dotyczący Żony D.I. Fawleya i sprawę o morderstwo sprzed 18tu lat. Do rozwijania tej historii autorka świetnie wykorzystuje nowoczesne media, m.in. wiadomości tekstowe i podcasty. Opowieść od razu wciąga czytelnika, jest wiarygodna i akcja ma dobre tempo. Jest też kilka świetnych zwrotów akcji.

I read this so quickly as it was enjoyable. All I can say is fantastic. It was my first one by this author but they give a complete low down of who is who before you start (so helpful) and now I’m off to read the rest of them.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publishers for the privilege of reading this book for my honest review.

This is the fifth book in the series featuring DI Adam Farley and his team. If you haven’t read any of the previous books you can soon catch up as Cara Hunter provided profiles at the beginning of the book of all the main characters. There are three separate threads running through the book. One is an incident that Adam and his team are investigating. The incident concerns a sexual assault at the university where a female professor is accused of sexual assault by a male student. The second one is the brutal murder of a young woman with connections to Adam. The third thread is that Alex, Adam’s wife is pregnant and needs his support as she is traumatised over the death of their son Jake. Garry Parrie known as the Roadside Rapist, who Adam helped convict, has been released from prison. Alex is convinced he is watching them as he made threats against them when he was convicted. Jocelyn Smith, who campaigns for Miscarriage of Justice, claims that Parrie is innocent and is reviewing his case in a podcast. There are different forms of narrative in the book with podcasts, emails, press articles etc which don’t always make easy reading. This is a great read, a little slow at the start it the pace increases and keeps you gripped until the end. A highly recommended series of books.
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

@carahunterauthor is one of my absolute favourites, and an autobuy author for me. I always recommend her books to anyone looking for a good thriller. The way she writes is so unique and I find myself getting completely lost in everything she writes. I find a lot of thrillers and police procedural to be predictable and it isn’t often I rate them 5 stars but this series is completely different.

This is number five in the DI Adam Fawley series and I loved it just as much as the first four. We join the usual team, headed by DI Fawley, and this time, the case is an Oxford professor being accused of sexual assault on a student, however all is not as it seems. There is also a side plot where DI Fawley seems to be getting into a dangerous situation he can’t find a way out of.

This series is compelling, twisty, fast paced and has everything you need to make the perfect thriller. I thrive on twists and this has plenty! The characterisation is spot on and the plots are always multilayered and unexpected. You end up really connecting with the members of the police force and rooting for them, especially in this book when DI Fawley finds himself in a tricky situation!

There are no chapters in these books, which would usually put me off but that is definitely not the case here. The author cleverly breaks up the story with newspaper reports, police interviews and podcasts. And to be honest I didn’t even notice the lack of chapters because I was turning the pages so quickly!

I am eagerly anticipating the next one in the series to get my fix! If you haven’t read this series please give it a go, you won’t regret it!

I’ve really enjoyed this whole series so I could not wait to read this next instalment by Cara Hunter.

I have to start by saying I don’t think you should read this one if you haven’t read the other four books in the series yet. Go read them first then come back…😌

So, four books in I now know the characters quite well and that’s lucky as they are at the forefront of this book. If you aren’t familiar with their backstory you likely won’t care much about what happens in this book.

I did very much enjoy it overall, but this is not my favourite of the series so far. It was nowhere near as twisty as her other books but to be honest she did set the bar REALLY high on that front, the authors other books are 👌🏻

The first half was just a little too slow for me, with the rape case not being really that interesting. It kicks right off about half way through though, so do persevere, and from that point I actually finished it pretty quickly.

Apparently the series is being made into a TV show which is quite exciting! If they don’t cast Lee Ingleby as Adam Fawley I will be so disappointed, I’m far too attached to his voice now from the audiobooks 🤣

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I did end up spending my own £ on the audiobook as I really enjoy listening to the series that way.

Unfortunately, i am no longer interested in giving feedback on this title. I will rate this based on what I have seen of other reviews.

Thank you NetGalley, Cara Hunter and the publisher Penguin for letting me read this book.

4 Stars.

I have read all of the DI Adam Fawley books to date and they are all as good as each other. There is not one that stands out more than the others, which is a good thing as ir is hard to pick a huge favourite within a series.

This book had a few twists and turns that I was not expecting. I thought that I had worked bits out but just when I thought I had an unexpected twist appears. Obviously the twists appeared in a good way.

Well done Cara, this book was just as enjoyable as the others. I am looking forward to finding out if there us a sixth one.

An interesting & very current police procedure novel. Plenty of twists & surprises to keep the reader guessing. I didn’t realise when I requested that this was part of a series and feel I missed out a bit with some of the other characters storylines but this has been easily rectified by reading the first 4!

The Whole Truth by Cara Hunter is full of surprises.

DI Fawley and his team are called in to an Oxford college when a male student accuses a female professor of sexual assault. In the Whole Truth little is what it initially seems, you keep being thrown of track and the twists and turns run right to the very last page.

Thought provoking, a little edgy and well well worth a read.

This book gave a brilliantly written alternative lens to the crime of sexual assault, from the eyes of a male victim. Lots of plot twists and turns which keep you hooked right to the last page.
Thank you to Netgalley and Cara Hunter for the opportunity to review this book.

Even though I did end up buying a physical copy of this copy, I would still like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for also providing me with a copy to read and review.

Riveting and utterly captivating from start to finish! This book series is one of my absolute favourites and I swear the books just keep getting better and better!
Again we have social media posts, texts, interview formats, and the latest addition - podcasts, alongside of the cleverly-written, gripping story. This adds another element to an already fantastic read that makes the story seem more real, and somewhat interactive. I was fully engrossed and just completely fascinated the whole way through.
The characters, again, are great, well-developed and add to the believeable police investigations.
There are a couple of storyarcs happening here, but with a mind-boggling he said/she said case, a murder, a stalker and some unpredictable twists, - I was left desperate for the next book by the end...
Book 6 can't come quick enough!

This is fantastic - stands up against Morse at his best. Multiple mysteries barrel alongside one another, building to a climax I simply couldn’t guess. The characters were interesting and it was helpful to have some background information on them provided up front. Touching on modern concepts which continue to challenge generations of gender based assumptions, the book is highly relevant in calling these out and getting the reader to question their own responses, My only complaint I have is that some of the non-text images are not easy to read on kindle. This author deserves a place up there with the best.

Well this was another brilliant addition to the DI Adam Farley series! I loved it!

This is a series that just grows in strength and it was so lovely to get back with the team. In a way this book works as a standalone however there are a few key things that come into play which are linked to previous events. Plus I have to highly recommend starting with book one because it is such an amazing series!

The pacing as ever is just right, keeping me invested completely. Interspersed with the story are social media snippets, various reports and articles. This adds a little interesting twist especially the social media posts. It brings a realistic edge showing how the public responds in various ways.

You get a great insight into not only the case but the detectives investigating it. I think this combination works so well. There is a brilliant amount of tension and twists that kept me entertained from start to finish!

Five big shiny stars from me!

I have read the previous four books of the Adam Fawley series and was really excited to read The Whole Truth which is the fifth book.
This was somewhat different from the previous ones in the way it was styled but it worked and really well too.

The storylines in this were great, a sexual assault case between a professor and her student, and the true-crime podcasts about the Roadside Rapist Gavin Parrie and how flawed the original investigation was, this was new to see in a book.
Like the other books in the series, we also get to know Adam Fawley in his personal life as well as his DI role.
I found myself getting so cross with some characters there were a lot of plot twists and it kept me guessing to the end.
The Whole Truth was a fantastic read and I am excited to read book 6 in the series now.

The Whole Truth is the fifth book in the DI Adam Fawley series and is set in Oxford. Until now, I’d only read the first book, Close to Home, but this series can be read as standalone stories so I was really looking forward to reading this one.

It’s July 2018 and the novel begins with the disturbing accusation of a sexual assault at Edith Launceleve College in Oxford. What makes it even more shocking is that the victim is a 22-year-old male mathematics student called Caleb Morgan and the accused is a 42-year-old female academic, and his supervisor, Professor Marina Fisher, an expert in artificial intelligence. The incident took place at Professor Fisher’s Georgian town house after a university fundraising dinner at which she was a keynote speaker.

DI Adam Fawley’s 44-year-old wife, Alex, is 35 weeks pregnant and exhausted – she’s struggling with the heat and her emotions. The last thing Fawley needs is a complicated case involving gender and university politics, with familial links to key figures in various fields.

Fawley was involved in an investigation in which a man called Gavin Parrie was convicted of the rape and attempted rape of seven young women in Oxford in 1998. As he was led away to serve a minimum of 15 years in prison, Parrie made death threats against Fawley and now, 10 years later and out on licence with a tag, Alex is concerned that Parrie will seek out the family and carry out his threats.

While embroiled in the ‘he said, she said’ Morgan and Fisher case, the team are asked to look into the disappearance of a woman and, before long, both investigations are stretching police resources and having far-reaching and shocking repercussions for certain members of the team! I certainly didn’t see that coming!

The story is cleverly told using text messages, emails, social media posts, newspaper articles, podcast and phone call transcripts, handwritten notes, official police interviews and paperwork, as well as from the points of view of various characters. This works very well and enables the reader to follow the story and all the evidence for themselves and gain a bird’s eye view of the investigations as they unfold.

I loved the way the author kindly included a useful table at the beginning of the novel as an aide-mémoire for those who’d read previous books and also for those who hadn’t! It was very handy and gave me a quick summary of the key members of the team and some background information.

Overall, I really enjoyed this cleverly plotted and well-written police procedural. There were some startling revelations in the novel and some great twists and turns, as well as a few red herrings, which I totally fell for! The book had a great pace and tension to it and it kept my attention throughout, with never a dull moment. Just when you thought things were calming down, something else dramatic would happen!

It’s a gripping and compelling read and I raced through it in a couple of days, frantically turning the pages as things got worse and worse for various characters! The story is action packed and engaging – I became fully immersed in the cases myself and nearly started making notes!

This is an excellent series and I’m looking forward to going back and reading the earlier books in the series: In the Dark, No Way Out and All the Rage.
