This is the second book in a series – the first being Thieves of Weirdwood. I absolutely adored Thieves of Weirdwood, so I was excited when given the chance to read and review (thanks Netgalley!) Ghosts of Weirdwood. It could be a case of bad timing, but I found it a bit slower than the first book. Regardless, I still really enjoyed the book. It’s a middle grade book but I don’t think it felt too young. After all, it’s a fantasy and the main characters are essentially on their own – since the book takes place in the past. Parents are sometimes mentioned, or shown, but they aren’t really around. It’s up to Arthur and Wally – former thieves and now aware of a world full of magic and mayhem – to survive. I love the secondary characters, especially a girl ghost who wants to return to her body, though she’s a huge help when in ghostly form. I believe there is only one more book left in the series and I will definitely be reading it when it’s released.

If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to grab a copy of Thieves of Weirdwood too!

This sequel picks up right where the first Ghosts of Weirdwood left off, which is good and bad-if you just finished the first one and clearly remember all the characters and what happened to them, it's great, but if it was a while ago and you've read a lot of books in between, you might not remember all the nuances of the first book, which will leave you wishing you hadn't waited so long to read this one. Like the first one, it's very well written with interesting and likable characters, lots of exciting action and sometimes hilarious dialogue. It will definitely find readers who will be smart enough to read the books closer together.

The second in the Weirdwood series, this continues to follow Arthur, Wally & Breeth through their misadventures.

I really liked how this one expanded on the manor, which I really wanted to see more of in the first one. It also expands on the unique imagination magic system which I find fascinating.

I think the author did better in separating Arthur & Wally's POVs more so I could better distinguish them. Breeth is fantastic as always.

There's a pretty big cliffhanger in this one, unlike the first one, so beware. A great read for anyone into the darker elements of fantasy!

Thanks to NetGalley & Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for the advanced reader copy!

Ghosts of Weirdwood is the next story in the Thieves of Weirdwood and follows Wally and Arthur who are reformed thieves trying to find a home for themselves in Weirdwood Manor. The adventures in this book have them fighting the Order who is trying to cause chaos by opening rifts and letting in creatures from other realms.
