The author is a somewhat modern day Thoreau, if Thoreau had been a die-hard fly fisherman. Keller escapes NYC to move upstate for the sole purpose of fly fishing. He moves into a small summer cabin in Margaretville NY. The cabin is small, rough, and uninsulated, in other words, perfect for him.
I enjoyed the descriptions of fishing that Keller gives. Makes one feel like you are there with him. I'm rather surprised at the lengths he goes to, to remain in the area. The awful and sporadic part-time jobs, the freezing in the winter, the isolation and loneliness. I myself am a die-hard fly fisherman, but could never subject myself to the lengths he was willing to go.
An easy, enjoyable read.
