As an avid reader, I had high hopes for "The Poppy and the Rose," but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. While the premise seemed promising, the execution left much to be desired.

First and foremost, the pacing of the novel was uneven, making it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story. There were moments of excitement and intrigue, but they were often overshadowed by long stretches of dullness where very little seemed to happen.

Additionally, I found the characters to be rather one-dimensional. They lacked depth and development, making it hard to connect with any of them on a meaningful level. Even the protagonist felt flat and uninteresting, failing to evoke any genuine emotion from me as a reader.

Furthermore, the writing style felt forced at times, with overly flowery language that seemed more like an attempt to impress than to convey genuine emotion or meaning. This made it challenging to stay engaged with the narrative, as I found myself getting lost in unnecessary descriptions rather than focusing on the plot.

Overall, while "The Poppy and the Rose" had the potential to be a captivating read, it ultimately fell short due to its uneven pacing, underdeveloped characters, and forced writing style. I wouldn't necessarily dissuade others from giving it a chance, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a must-read either.

The Poppy and the Rose is set in two timelines, Titanic era and in 2010. The novel has a good amount of mystery, romance, and family drama. A must-read by historical fiction lovers and Titanic buffs.

An intriguing blend of two mysteries of different eras featuring the paranormal, family drama, and a little bit of romance, The Poppy and the Rose does not disappoint. Taylor Romano, an American journalism student in the Oxford summer program finds herself in the middle of mystery that keeps getting bigger at every turn. The Poppy and the Rose features genuinely surprising twists I never saw coming, making it uniquely thrilling.

I don’t think this was for me, I didn’t find myself engaging with the plot and found myself to be quite bored throughout

This was not a book for me. I was not a fan of the characters or the plot. I think this just a case of my type of book.

'The Poppy and the Rose' presents an interesting tale that is bound to interest most YA readers: mystery on the Titanic, family secrets, and a dash of romance. The story is told through two parallel timelines; Ava Knight, an aspiring photographer on the Titanic with her father, and Taylor Romano, who's just arrived in Oxford and is looking for the key to her father's past. I am a sucker for anything Titanic and this book stole my breath away!

The cover drew me to this. The plot and setting was interesting with dual timeline. The characters and the mystery was intriguing. This one was good for me as I am slowly exploring the historical genre. The flow was good and had me in since I want to know more about Titanic.

Overall a good read.

Interesting premise, but struggled a bit to finish the book. I enjoyed the Titanic scenes a lot more than the modern ones, since I struggled to connect with the main character and her choices / actions.

I was excited about this book because it seemed like a mystery on the Titanic. However, it was hard to follow with the different time jumps. I would have enjoyed it better it didn’t keep going back and forth. Still, I recommend this for fans of the Titanic!

The Poppy and the Rose was an emotional read has the story moves between Taylor and Ava. The details created by the author brings the Titanic and Ava's story to life as Taylor tries to find the connections. Awesome read. Highly recommend.

First of all, what a beautiful cover!! Knowing that this was historical fiction that involved the Titanic, I was instantly intrigued. This story is told through two two timelines. One in 1912 and one in 2010. There is mystery and a bit of romance…my two favs! I did enjoy Ava’s (1912) perspective more, both timelines were interesting and easy to read.

DNF'ed at 15%.

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to finish this book, despite restarting it on multiple occasions I simply couldn't get into it. To be honest, the concept was one which I felt I could take or leave, and after reading some of the book I felt it just wasn't the book for me. That said, if someone loved historical fiction and thought the concept sounded like something they'd really enjoy, I wouldn't discourage them from reading it.
