I couldn't get through this title. It ended up not being for me, but I hope it finds a hope with other readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Josep Pla stories are from the early 20th century around North East corner of Spain close to and at times right next to the French boarder along with adventures in the Balearic Sea. As you can probably figure from the picture on the cover that there are at least parts of this book that as the title infers takes place on the Spanish Salt Water but there are stories of adventure on land also dealing with smugglers. This book is a decent read but at times seems a little long winded.

The author travels across the coastal plains, makes acquaintances and provides humorous commentary along the way. A part memoir, a part travelogue and a sort of quick look-up on Catalan landscape, Salt water is a book written with much soul than with an intent of academic pursuit. There is wonder, almost child like, at the simplicity of the life that is witnessed. There are pauses into the journey during which he takes time to detail the slowly changing landscape around him. Its wondrous unraveling of a time and place, of people and their stories.
