I love Janet Dailey's book and this one did not disappoint.

As you start reading this book, you can envision the town and scenery of Paradise Peak. You can smell the acrid smoke in the air and you want everyone to be OK and their homes and businesses spared. The main characters of this book are well developed, interesting, fun to spend time with and downright nice. Take a few minutes to sit back and enjoy how neighbors are supposed to act, how people are supposed to treat one another, and share in the splendid details of this book. Enjoy!

Consider this goal. Redeeming yourself by finding and talking to the person your previous actions had devastated. Perhaps finding some way to truly apologize for ruining that person’s life by killing her daughter. Driving under the influence is an unconscionable act of irresponsibility if nothing more. But when it causes the accidental death of an innocent person then it is manslaughter punishable by time in prison. PARADISE PEAK is about what happens when and if you are fortunate enough to survive incarceration and released from prison. What would your future now look like – if there is a future to be had.
PARADISE PEAK is an idyllic mountainous place inhabited by peaceful, caring and compassionate people. Neighbors watch out for each other and extend a helping hand to strangers in need. Neil Travis Alden is an example of the latter. Going under his middle name Travis comes to Paradise Peak to find Margaret, the mother of the daughter he killed and finally apologize. His court appearance didn’t show him in the best light. Travis knows he could be and is a better man then what he was twenty years ago. Travis had been running wild with his brother his life spiraling toward disaster. But he wants salvation although he truly believes he does not deserve it.
Travis is taken under the wing of Red the owner of a rather disheveled ranch that has definitely seen better days. Red and his partner Margaret run the ranch with the help of Hannah. Hannah is a survivor too. Her marriage to a brutal husband is now in the past but the scars live on. Hannah is short on trust and that puts her immediately at odds with this stranger.
PARADISE PEAK is the story of perseverance in the face of danger. Danger comes in many forms and in PARADISE PEAK we witness the best and worst of human beings and nature. PARADISE PEAK is also about taking chances. Travis takes an enormous step seeking out Margaret. He can’t move forward until he makes peace with the woman who lost so much at his hands. Travis is no longer an unruly boy. He is a grown man who spent the major portion of his life behind bars. PARADISE PEAK is his journey toward real freedom. PARADISE PEAK is also about earning trust. Things got complicated when Travis is overcome with a sense of peace, kindness, friendship and trust from people who took in a complete stranger. In short PARADISE PEAK stars some fabulous characters.

I couldn't put this one down. I kept reading to find out what happens between Red and Margaret and Hannah and Travis. The struggle Travis was dealing with was handled amazingly. Janet Dailey is one of my favorite authors and she tells fantastic stories.

I enjoyed this book. Kept reading when I actually should have put it do2n and gone to bed.. It was a good story — sad at times, but good.. Told how people helped each other in emergency times.

Seeking forgiveness after spending 20 years in jail for DUI and killing the daughter of Margaret Owens, Travis Miller walks his way to Paradise Peak hoping to find Margaret and ask for absolution.. A chance meeting with Red, the co-owner of a ranch, he is invited to stay at the ranch at least for one night. Much to his surprise Margaret Owens is the co-owner of the Paradise Peak Ranch and along with Hannah, Red's niece, the three of them welcome him. However, he is hiding his secret and is hesitant to bring it to the forefront. The book is predictable yet even knowing that I found it both enjoyable and entertaining. My thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I honestly did not expect to shed a tear at the final scenes. But it was really quite touching. I liked the second chance at love and second chances at life theme of this book.

Still not as good as some of the Janet Daileys I have read in the past, but I enjoyed most of it.

Thank you Netgalley and Kensington books for the ARC. This is my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC! I fell in love with this book. I may or may not have cried a little. Tears of sadness and joy. What a great story. A story about love, loss, redemption, second chances and forgiveness. The characters, what can I say loved them! They felt so real. The author did an amazing job making this reader fall in love with them.
Travis became the man he thought he could never be. Hannah finds love in the man she came to believe in. Red and Margaret loved them both.
I had a hard time putting this book down. I was hooked from the very beginning. Highly recommend!

This book hooked me from the beginning and left me crying at the end—not all from sadness because it is a happy ever after. But it’s also a representation of real life, with real people who suffer, struggle, make mistakes, and the strength of love and forgiveness. The author’s description of the fires on the mountain left me holding my breath, and could be a trigger for some with everything going on, but the emotional investment was well worth it to me. I fell in love with the characters and loved everything about this book. Highly recommended.

Janet Dailey brings us The New Americana Series with Travis and Hannah. Travis Alden comes to Paradise Peak in search of absolution from Margaret Owens. And to start over after spending the last twenty years behind bars. He ends up meeting Red Bartlett who manages to wrangle Travis to come back with him to help out at his ranch. Here, he is met with kindness and love. A trio of strangers welcome him and open their home and hearts to him. But, Travis has a secret that could ruin everything he has been building with these people. There will come a time when he has to reveal all and then leave it all behind.

Will Travis be able to meet Margaret Owens and ask for forgiveness? Will she give it to him? Will this secret tear apart Travis and Hannah or will who he is win them over rather than who he was?

Janet Dailey gives an opener that makes you want to keep turning the page until you find out the outcome of the reveal of his secret. I enjoyed going on this journey with Travis and Hannah as they discover each other and if they allow the past to ruin their future. I look forward to reading more from Janet Dailey.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for this privilege.

Travis is an ex-con, released from prison after a twenty year sentence for killing a woman while driving drunk. Now he is hitchhiking through Tennessee to find the mother of the woman he killed and apologize. He is willing to do whatever he can for forgiveness. After being picked up by a kind old man and taken to his ranch, he discovers the woman he's been looking for, Margaret, is co-owner of the Paradise Peak ranch. Fearing being turned away, he lies about his identity in order to help rebuild her ranch. Hannah, Red's niece, also lives at the ranch and as he helps her to rebuild, he starts to fall in love with her. But if he finally reveals his true identity, he risks losing what feels like the only family he's ever known.
I really liked the description of Travis as a gentle giant, determined to change his life and become a better man. I loved how he became a hero during the forest fire. The slow build of a relationship between him and Hannah from suspicion to friendship to love added more realism to the story. This is my first book by this author , but it certainly won't be the last. I look forward to reading the first books in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
