This was a DNF for me - I’ve tried time and time to get into it but unfortunately it wasn’t a fit for me.

This was not really my cup of tea. The advice was just ok, and most was advice you could get off the internet or social media. This isn't something that I would buy off the shelf.

TYSM to NetGalley for my copy of this book.

This book accomplishes a lot of things, but I think the biggest and most important is that it shows us that we're not alone. The crazy thoughts we have and actions we sometimes take (or don't take) are things that so many others do. Candice Jalili is the friend we all need in our lives, pushing us to be our most authentic selves and to never settle for anything less than we deserve.

I really liked this book in terms of feeling empowered to be yourself. However the author relied very heavily on a survey of 254 women as evidence for what women do and experience. I’m not a statistician but that feels like such a small sample to me. I appreciate the use of evidence and also personal stories and I understand because I’ve experienced it too, but the heavy reliance on that survey was a sticking point for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book is so necessary in this time and age Dating is so DIFFICULT.... and I know that personally, I'm always second guessing myself when it comes to dating, communicating, and so forth. This book was such a fun easy and really gave me some great advice on dating in the digital age..
I'd definitely read more books by this author.

Just Send the Text by Candice Jalili is a fun examination of modern dating. Jalili delves into playing hard to get, the game and how this plays out over time throughout this conversational how to. The goal being to put aside any fronts or games and lay it all out there for good or bad. Jalili gives examples from friends and social media followers which she juxtaposes with a fictional standin for the reader named Eunice. Eunice is meant to sketch out all the of the bad habits we pick up in dating from social media stalking to pretending to like a guys hobbies and show a way to be happier by not sweating it. Throughout the book Jalili cites several studies showing the alarming impact these actions can have.

Honestly, I really wish I had read this dating bible much, much sooner.

Just Send the Text is a breath of fresh air in the dating & relationships nonfiction genre in that while it is a guide, it actually offers none of the "Ten Things To Do To Get The Guy" kind of advice. In fact, it says very little about how to act and what steps to take to get him. Instead, Candice emphasizes everything that's wrong with this kind of advice: by following a certain set of rules in dating, we don't listen to what we actually want and as a result, we focus on the other person and not at all on ourselves. We care whether they will like us, but don't stop to consider whether we like them that much. Most importantly, we don't give the other person the chance to see the REAL us, aka the person they would potentially end up dating!

As a 25-year-old woman, I saw myself in Candice's so many of examples, beginning with her personal introduction: being anxious, trying to play a role, trying to be chill/cool/whatever else I've been told by the movies or magazines is the IT that men look for in a girl.

But not only is Candice badass, friendly and down-to-earth, she is also hilarious in her writing style. She doesn't shy away from being brutally honest and goofy at times, making her totally relatable. Finally, I'm so glad to read from a real-deal coach who doesn't pretend people actually still meet exclusively IRL!
