I couldn't releate with any of the characters and I felt like it was too fast, to the point that I was lost and didn't know why the characters suddenly liked each other so much. I did not see development, interaction, but suddenly these strangers were making business plans after the girl decided to show her power to a boy for no apparent reason. It didn't work for me. Although the drawing is beautiful, the story did not convince me, and I really wanted to like it because the synopsis is very attractive.

3,5*
Beautiful and detailed artwork. Heartwarming story and characters. Wholesome romance, full of cute af moments. Talks about using your talents to bring happiness to the world, and finding your place in it. A must-read and there's a beautiful anime adaptation on Netflix.

I couldn’t get the file to work and have tried every way that I could. If there could be a way to have it work on kindle I would be able to read it.

This was so interesting and different than what I usually read. The art style was amazing and the plot and characters were amazing as well. I’m super excited to read the rest of the series when it comes out in English!

This is the first volume of 3, so the story is put on hold.

Hodaka Morishima, a 16-year-old boy, leaves his island to go to Tokyo without a clear plan. The city is hostile, the rain permeates everything, and soon he is homeless on the street. An unknown girl is the only one who gives him a meal, and he ends up looking for a man he met on the ship who gives him a job as an assistant in a self-published magazine that follows strange events

When Hodaka meets his benefactress again, he tries to help her and they end up on a rooftop where Hina prays for the sun and it appears to his surprise. Soon the teens start a business where they cash in at events bringing sunshine and clear skies, providing a respite from the rain that keeps falling on the city.

There are several questions that remain unanswered after this first volume. Like what is Hodaka running from? because he is full of band-aids in the first pages of the manga and never explains it. That if counting, how is Hina doing what she does? Why is she a Sunshine Girl? I already knew, like any good fantasy reader, that you cannot change the climate out of nowhere, where does power come from? and what are the consequences? And neither is the climate explained nor is there too much concern from the authorities about it.

I have not seen the movie, nor read the book, so I did not know what I was going to find, and I kind of lack something. I confess that I will read the conclusion, but that I was not amazed.

---------------------------

Weathering With You is the second title from Makoto Shinkai I've ever read, first being classic Your name. I haven't seen the movie yet, so I was not influenced unlike when I read Your name. I honestly think that it's better, because Shinkai is know for colorful movies with breathtaking animation which kind of disappears in manga.

Weathering With You focuses on a guy named Hodaka, who runaway from home, who decides to try his luck in Tokyo. Hungry and homeless, he accidentally meets a girl named Hina, who not only works in food place and helps him, but she is also "Sunshine Girl", she has powers to control weather. One encounter can change a world... can't it?

Author of this story, Makoto Shinkai, collaborates with Wataru Kubota, who delivers beautiful illustrations. His art is very clean, pleasant to look at and pretty artsy. It fits Shinkai's plot perfectly. As for the story, Shinkai focuses on topics such as love, sacrifice and family. First volume serves as an introduction to whole story and sets the atmosphere. It's to be expected that plot is gonna dive into sad territories, just as Your name did. It's said that movie adaptation itself is tear-jerker.

Characters are likable, at least in my opinion. Hodaka is just a teenage boy who ran away from home. We don't exactly get why, but I hope we'll find out more later. Hina, Sunshine girl, is pretty mysterious, but very nice and polite girl, who I immediately liked.

Overall, Weathering With You is pretty enjoyable manga about real life problems. It could reach pretty wide audience. It has only 3 volumes, so it's perfect for readers who avoid long series. Totally recommend this one!

Beautiful Illustration and a fantastic Story. I love the way the author still brings out an everyday beauty of tokyo in the illustrations.

Thank you so much to Kodansha USA and NetGalley for a free copy of the manga. I’m super thrilled to be reviewing this. All words and opinions are my own.

As a Makoto Shinkai fan, I still get chills thinking about my first time watching the fan preview of this Japanese animated film in theaters. Now to be able to read the manga adaptation brings me absolute joy. Weathering with You is about a 16-year-old boy named Hodoka Morishima who ran away from his home island and tries to make a living in Tokyo, Japan. During his time in the city, there has been many abnormal heavy rainstorms, making his days even gloomier. However, when he finds himself meeting a girl named Hina Amano, Hodoka learns about her ability to clear the clouds and bring back the sunshine. With the "sunshine girl" by his side and finding a little bit of happiness, Hodoka proposes a "Sunshine Delivery Service" where Hina brings back sunshine to help people and make them smile. But what happens when this fated meeting comes with a price?

Volume one is a great introduction to the characters and the plot, showcasing Makoto Shinkai's work for those who are not familiar with his unique style. It stays loyal to the film by covering the first half of the plot and the other half in future volumes. The natural elements such as water and sunlight are illustrated beautifully, setting up emotional atmospheres during critical scenes. The themes of climate change and the struggles of young adults come up, making this an engaging read. I recommend this manga for those who are interested in a magical slice of life story and finding hidden meaningful messages along the way.

Since I have seen the movie and fell in love with not only its stunning visuals, but also its storytelling, I was very curious about the manga. I'm grateful to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy!
The story is about Hodaka, a runaway struggling to make a living in a Tokyo where it constantly rains. No one will hire him since he is a minor and hasn't finished school. Luckily, a chance encounter with a journalist gives him the opportunity to work as his assistant. He has to research for an article featuring an ancient myth about a sunshine girl who is connected to the heavens. It just so happens that he meets Hina, who is such a girl. Whenever she prays, the clouds clear up and the sun shines. However, this gift comes with a price.
I was a little surprised about how many things are already happening in the first volume! The plot moves quickly and towards the end, we already glimpse the first hint of consequences for Hina. It definitely made me want to keep reading, even though I've seen the movie and know what's going to happen. However, despite my preference for fast story lines, the first few chapters end up feeling a bit rushed. Especially in regards to the characters, their developments and interactions.
The story is still stunning in the manga. I really like the art style! The same atmosphere from the movie, with all its rain and music, is still present. I enjoyed the big double pages with their beautiful scenes the most!
I think that fans of the movie should definitely check out the manga. However, the manga doesn't add anything new to the movie. It is still highly entertaining!

This is an adaptation of the movie with the same name. It's true to the movie, so has a lovely story that can be a little hard to follow at times but is well worth it. I'm very interested to see if the manga continues past the end of the film.
This manga would be great for those who haven't seen the movie but might be worth a miss if you are very familiar with the film plot.

This graphic novel is an adaptation of the famous movie with the same title. I have seen the movie a few times, it is an amazing experience, with its beautiful art style and breathtaking soundtrack. This graphic novel would be enjoyable for those who've already seen the movie, and for those who have not. I adored the more simple art style and the dedication to follow the original. I can recommend this graphic novel for anyone who loves a hearty, emotional story.

The graphics are so beautiful, I'm falling in love with its visual, truly. I heard it's a movie too and it's the best hit movie in Japan. Well, I have yet to watch it but I'm already swayed by the melancholic and beautiful storyline by Makoto Shinkai. The translation done very well too. I can read and digest the dialogues with ease since the words aren't packed at all. After reading this, I definitely am looking forward to watching the movie as well as his other work. Highly recommendable! If you love magical realism manga(s) then you'll love this.

Thank you Netgalley and Vertical Comics for granting me the e-arc of Weathering With You in return for an honest review.

**eARC provided by NetGalley for honest review**

This is the story of a runaway boy trying to make his way in the big city of Tokyo and the people he meets there, including a young girl who can change the weather. Since I'd already watched and become a fan of the "Weathering with You" movie, I got pretty much what I expected when I decided to pick up this manga. Granted, this is only volume 1, so it probably only covers about the first half of the movie, but I guess I was hoping for a little bit of extra content that wasn't shown on screen. Sadly, I didn't get much if any of that, but this was a fine read for what it was, I just prefer the beautiful sights and sounds of the movie adaptation in this case.

I received an e-galley of Weathering With You, volume 1 from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I am a fan of Makoto Shinkai ever since I first read and watched 5 Centimeters Per Second. There is something so beautifully bittersweet and melancholic about the work he creates that draws you in into a reflective and mesmerizing world. When I saw that he had a new piece of work out - Weathering With You - I knew that I was going to have to look into it. I was not disappointed with the first volume of the manga edition at all.

Weathering With You follows Hodaka, a young boy from an island as he runs away to Tokyo to get away from the life he's always known. Tokyo has been rampaged by rainstorms consistently and through a coincidental run=in with a young girl - Hina - he' discovers that she has the power to bring sunshine. Together, the two take on jobs to bring sunshine to their clients and their city. It is a story of magic, folklore, and adventure. This volume sets up their friendship and relationship, while promising to bring more intrigue and perhaps answers to current mysteries in this volume. This is definitely a manga/story to keep an eye on.

Thank you to Kodansha Comics for the e-galley!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha USA for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review!

It was nice seeing the manga version of the amazing film Makoto-sensei made! Though I enjoyed the movie so much, seeing it in with Kubota-san's art style is so captivating as well! Both forms have minor differences. In the manga, some of the cute scenes from the movie weren't present but there are new scenes added as well that weren't in the film. Some of the dialogues are different too. I guess it's to make way for the language differences when translated to english but I also appreciate the Japanese culture-related explanations featured in the last pages.

Personal rating- 8.5/10

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

"During the summer of his first year in high school, a young man named Hokada runs away from home to the bustling city of Tokyo. Alone and exhausted, he decides to kill time in a fast food place, where he meets a young woman named Hina, who happens to work there. Little does he know that Hina possesses the power to not only affect the weather but the whole world."

Let me start off by saying that I loved the art style of this manga. It's very "clean" and "organized" which is very weird adjectives to describe an art style but I think it'll make sense if you have read the manga.

The writing was pleasant to read but not extraordinary. The writer references the effect of Climate Change on the world; which I think is an amazing thing to do. I love it when contemporary writers discuss their takes on real-world issues. This story is set in Tokyo, Japan. And the time period referred to as the late 21st century. I'd categorize it as Urban fantasy, considering the real-world setting with the fantastical twist.

I don't really have many complaints regarding this volume except that, I think that it didn't set the tone for the series as well as it could have. I got mixed messages- if it's going to be dark and gritty, or Fluffy and light-hearted. I still don't know what to expect from the later volumes after finishing it. This is why I didn't rate this 5 stars. Otherwise, it is nearly perfect (in my subjective opinion).

It definitely left me wanting more of the story, I really want to get my eyes on the next volume.

In the end I came out with a more positive than negative experience reading Weathering With You, vol. 1 and I can see why people really like it but I don’t think it’s a series that I’ll continue reading.

For clarity, I’m coming from the perspective of having not seen the movie that this manga is based on - the story was entirely new to me. I did enjoy it and thought there were some cute moments but it didn’t stick with me. Personally, I just didn’t connect with Hodaka as a character because I didn’t really understand his motivations and was somewhat confused by his decisions. I also had a lot of questions about Hina’s powers that didn’t get answers which distracted me from other elements of the story. I thought the art style was quite nice though and definitely suited the story.
