The Imposter by Marin Montgomery is a page-turning psychological thriller. It is centered on Deborah, and her estranged daughter Sibley, both living with their own demons from the past. When Sibley returns home to try to face her troubles and reunite with her mother, they both find it difficult to trust the other, especially as odd things keep happening around them and it begins difficult to tell who is being honest. This book really got in my head and I had plenty of moments of questioning myself - what is real? Who is telling the truth? The author did a good job of setting up the plot twists, and I appreciated that with any good thriller, there were surprises. The one thing that held this book back a little bit for me was that I found it really difficult to root for either of the main characters, Sibley & her mother Deborah. They are both flawed people (arent we all) but more than that they werent particularly likeable. Even so, I couldnt put this book down and still found myself needing to know how their story turned out. I definitely recommend this book for fans of psychological thrillers.

Thank you netgalley for a arc. This is a new author for me, I usually stray from domestic thrillers but this was a pleasant surprise. There are definitely a lot of questions throughout the end of the book but I find it keeps you wanting to understand the characters thought process. Will definitely be looking into more books by this author

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me!! I read this author's other book and loved so I was super excited for this one but it just didn't do it for me. I'm so sorry!

If you love a complex mystery that keeps you hooked, this is it! The author did a great job of leading you in different directions and keeping you guessing what exactly is going on - and also did a great job of tying things together. I wanted to slap Sibley to make her stop drinking, the author did such a great job portraying addiction and how powerless someone can be against it. I really hate when authors create complex plots then bam, everything is resolved in one page and you feel like you're missing something - but not here, not at all! The resolution was tapestried together and satisfying - definitely a page-turner to find out what's happening next. Highly recommended! I will look for more from this author.

I received an advance copy of, The Imposter, by Marin Montgomery. Sibley wants to reunite with her estranged mother, Deborah, but they have both changed. I thought this was on ok book. It was slow to start, it goes back and forth a lot.

I loved the idea, but I didn't like the execution. (Spoilers ahead) I think this might have been much better if there were less confusion and fewer questions to answer. Some questions remained unanswered, especially considering Sibley's job and possible affaire. Maybe all of that story was thrown into the mix to confuse the readers more, but that doesn't explain how the entire story was wrapped up so fast at the ending.
I liked going between the past and the present. I also liked how the story was told from the point of view of Sibley as the speaker while the chapters about Deborah were told from an external viewer point of view. I felt that made us doubt her and added to the thrill of the book. I personally believed the mental illness story despite having had my doubts about Doctor Alcoy.

I really loved this book. I enjoyed the struggles of the characters and they're bad habits. They were relatable to a certain degree and I appreciated that the author didn't make them perfect. It was nice to see people with real problems struggling to overcome their issues. I also loved the mother, daughter drama! As someone who has moved away from family (not my mom, in case she reads this) it was nice to see people portrayed wth real life issues and family baggage.

I felt the back and forth between characters was too confusing. I was often having to reread portions because the point of view would change. I thought the writing was well done but the plot line came to fruition too quickly at the end. It was a slow burn but very slow.

The finale just ended the book rather abruptly and you were left to put together the pieces of what happened. I thought the book was a little scattered and I usually had no idea what was going on and not in a good way.

Overall, I do recommend this read because it will completely leave you guessing. The plot line was solid.

Sorry to say this book wasn’t for me. Didn’t like the writing style and the whole plot and storyline was just a big mess. To say it was confusing is putting it mildly! There also wasn’t any connection to the characters and never really got to know them. Alot of details that didn’t make sense. The best part of the book was the ending. Would definitely not recommend this book. Thank you netgalley for letting me give an honest review of this book.

A perfect life unraveling could leave to the perfect crime. And engrossing psychological thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend reading it

I read this via E-ARC on Netgalley.

This is a case of "not for me", I think. I can see why people would enjoy this book but I ended up a confused mess between what's right now and what's in the past. This isn't normally an issue for me but for this book it was.

The writing style also wasn't my cup of tea. I found it to be a bit detail specific but at the same time lacking any sort of character depth. Sure, I know every item of clothing the character is wearing but I don't really know anything about THEM. There are a lot of details, just not about the things that mattered to me.

Seeing Sibley as an outstanding divorce attorney, no one would guess she'd come from a small midwestern town.
Looks can be deceiving. She is a functional alcoholic. What's more her firm has suspended her until she goes to rehab. Her husband is upset at her because he thinks she had an affair. Her life sucks.
She decides to go back home and see if she can mend the relationship with her mother. They haven't seen or spoken to each other for years. Ever since Sibley left her hometown.
What she encounters will want to send her running for her life.
A great psychological read. Twists and turns galore!

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Sibley is looking forward to meeting her mother Deborah, who she hasn't spoken too in years. Is it too soon to forget what happened years ago? This book was well written.
