When I saw that this title was compared to Five Feet Apart, I immediately requested it. And I did not regret it.

When Abby gets a letter from her father, who left her when she was five, the last thing she expected was for him to tell her that he has Hunter’s disease, a genetic disease that’s like a combination of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS. Abby and her sister tests to see if they have the disease too. One tests positive, the other doesn’t. So Abby steals away to spend her summer with her aunt, not wanting to face her reality. However things don’t go as planned when she meets and gets closer to Ben, an aspiring filmmaker who collects stories from everyone.

I absolutely adored this book. Abby’s struggle to come to terms with being positive for Hunter’s Disease and the way it affected her life was both realistic and painful to read.

The authors seamlessly portray the toll it took on her relationships, life choices and her as a person before also showing how there is still hope, that Abby could still live her life the way she wants to.

This was a moving story. I look forward to reading more books from the authors and highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Five Feet Apart.

The insta-love romance in this book was done right. The sweetness of Abby and Ben left you aching instead of rolling your eyes. The Huntington's disease aspect of the story was super compelling and emotional. I loved the alternating timelines. Although the premise of the book is full of sorrow (and the emotional writing will make a lot of people cry), this book left me feeling hopeful.

The way I sobbed through this. I love this story and I will forever make people read this so they can sob like I did.

“I will be here for you whenever, however, forever.”

Let me just start by saying that I was not ready for this book.
I don’t usually read the blurbs because I like to be surprised. I just wish I knew I needed to prepare my heart! Also I am so upset with myself for not reading this last April when I got the eARC. I’m a terrible human.

Fade into the Bright tells the story of Abby who finds out she has a 50/50 chance of developing Huntington's Disease later in life. Abby decides to go live with her aunt for the summer in a remote area of Catalina Island.

The topic in this book is not easy to read about. The authors wrote about this topic with such grace. They give a real portrayal of not only how HD affects someone physically, but also the toll it takes on their mental and emotional health and the impact it can have on everyone around them.

While this is YA, it didn’t feel like it to me. Our MC Abby was so mature for her age, honestly one of my favorite YA characters ever. I loved all the side characters too, her aunt and Chip were lovely. I wish we could get books for all the other characters.

Before this book I didn’t know anything about HD. That surprised me. It’s such an awful disease but you don’t hear about it enough. I’m grateful to the authors for raising awareness.

I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s heartbreaking and beautiful, an emotional roller coaster that I didn’t want to get off of. Don’t forget to grab some tissues along with this.

Thank you to the publisher for the book.

When Abby turns 18, she finds out her life may change forever after receiving a letter from her father that he has been diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. Abby and her sister have a 50% change of inheriting the gene and Abby finds out she’s carrying it. With her future planned out, she struggles to deal with the news and escapes to her aunt’s home on Catalina where she can process. There she meets new friends and also decides how to move forward.

This book was an amazing, heartbreaking and heartwarming story of a struggle that most of us will never have to deal with. The first half of the book allows us to fall in love with Abby and leave the diagnosis a little in the background as she explores new friendships and a little romance. The second half crashes down on us as Abby is forced to confront her mortality and forge a plan to go forward.

I laughed, fell in love, and sobbed all on this one amazing journey!

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC digital copy. I have not been compensated for my opinion and this is an honest review.

Unfortunately, I was unable to finish reading this ARC digital copy before needing to switch to other books that were being archived. The book is not on my Goodreads "want to read" list, due to my personal desire to read more uplifting books at this point. But I will update my review to reflect an updated opinion if I finish it at a later date..

I was in a mood for a fun romance and this booked checked all the boxes for me; friends to lovers/opposites attract, traveling (because you know, the pandemic), great characters and sometimes over the top yet adorable situations.
I loved the dual timelines from previous vacations and current. Poppy and Alex felt like real people and that’s what I think I enjoyed the most. Loved the dialogue between them, it’s more than just a romance as it had a couple deep topics.
Pick this up you won’t regret it. I’ll post synopsis in comments.

Fade Into The Bright is one of my favorite reads of this year. The plot is very heavy, as it centers around a girl who finds out that she has Huntington's disease, a gene her estranged dad passed along to her. However, it's a very well-written and engaging story that I absolutely loved.

I loved this book. It reminded me of Five Feet Apart but wow was this one good. The characters were just phenomenal. Abby was just my fave YA character that I have read in a while. I loved learning more about Huntingtons Disease I didn't know much about it at all but it was so meticulously researched and written exceptionally well.

I had not heard about Huntington’s Disease before reading this book. I thought the book was very informational as well as telling a very beautiful story about how Abby has to deal with getting a positive diagnosis. Every emotion was raw and real in this book. I really enjoyed this quick and easy read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the arc in return for an honest review.

I appreciate how Fade into the Bright told a story about a teenager finding out she might develop Huntington's Disease later in life and dealing with the diagnosis. I liked reading Abby's relationships with her family, friends, and also Ben — they felt well fleshed out and definitely gave Abby's story weight. This was definitely a heavy read and took me time to get through.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!

This book originally caught my eye because it was compared to books like five feet apart so I just had to read it. I was not disappointed. Very heart wrenching story.

Fade Into the Bright is a highly emotional story about coping with a diagnosis that will change your life forever. This is definitely a thought provoking novel, as it will leave readers considering what decisions they would make themselves in a similar situation.

At 18 years old, Abby is about to graduate high school and head off to college when she and her sister, Brooke, receive a letter from their estranged father that will change their lives forever.

After learning that there is a 50% chance that they’ve inherited Huntington’s Disease, a fatal genetic disease, the sisters decide to go through the process of being tested for the gene that causes the disease.

After receiving a positive test result, Abby escapes to Catalina Island for the summer. Here, she meets a new group of friends, including Ben, an aspiring filmmaker. When her relationship with Ben starts to become more than friends, Abby struggles with the decision to share her diagnosis.

This was a heart wrenching story that I could not let go of. I was on board with this one as soon as I saw that it was Five Feet Apart meets Tell Me Three Things. I can not tell you how much that is true for this one. There is no way I will review this the way I want to. I just do not have the words. I loved it so much and it was so powerful and it was just so perfect!

Well this story stole my heart. There is a certain essence of tragedy that brings together souls. I adored the heart wrenching aspect of familial bonds.

This young adult book absolutely broke my heart, but then put it all back together in the best way.

Fade Into the Bright tells the story of Abby Freeman, an 18-year-old girl whose life is changed overnight when she learns she has tested positive for Huntington's Disease - a fatal, degenerative disorder that has been described as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and ALS combined.

If you need a good cry, this book will definitely do it. Though the topic is not an easy one to read about, Etting and Schwartz handle this story with grace, respect, sensitivity, and a very realistic portrayal of not only how HD affects someone physically, but also the toll it takes on their mental and emotional health and the impact it can have on an entire family.

While there are some parts that are difficult to read, this story is very hopeful overall and encourages everyone to seize the day, enjoy the moments, and live their best lives, regardless of what may happen in the future.

My heart went out to Abby as she went through the ups and downs of learning about this disease. I loved her, as well as her sister, Brooke, her mom, her Aunt Cynthia, Chip, and her entire friend group. Their relationships were real, raw, and relatable, and it made Abby's plight so much more real and understandable.

I cannot imagine dealing with everything Abby has to come to terms with in this book, but I'm so appreciative of the insight Etting and Schwartz give readers. I didn't know much about Huntington's Disease before, but now, armed with the knowledge, I am eager to participate in @letstalkbookspromo 's stack challenge (check out @berittalksbooks @whimsicalyme and @letstalkbookspromo 's pages for more details) to benefit HD research. Keep your eyes peeled for my post, coming soon!

Thank you so, so much to Berit, @itsjessandlyss , @delacortepress , Let's Talk Books Promo, @kccpr and @whimsicalyme for my gifted eARC and for the opportunity to read and discuss this beautifully poignant, moving, and hopeful story. I'd love to see a sequel to this book, and if there ever is one, I'll be one of the first in line to read and champion it!

Such an emotional read. It asks the question: is life worth living, if you know it has an end? This is a poignant, touching story about Abby, who's been recently diagnosed with an incurable and genetic Huntington's Disease. She meets Ben who is dealing with his own demons, and together, they begin their journey through grief and find light at the end of the tunnel. Definitely adding this to our collection.
