If possible, I loved this book even more than The Salt Path as we got to follow Raynor Winn through the process of writing that book and seeing the impact on her and Moth's life from behind the scenes. In addition to this riveting section, readers also get to follow Raynor and Moth on another walk. It's like two books and both are equally engaging. A must-read for any fan of Raynor Winn and a lovely introduction to her writing for anyone just discovering her now.

The wild silence continues the story told in the salt path. Ray and Moth have finished their epic coastal walk and trying to readjust to living with a roof over their head. As they settle into daily life, with Moth attending school and Ray hiding from the world, Moths health begins to deteriorate. This is their journey of finding balance, accepting who they are, and embracing the wonders of nature.
This book is not as enjoyable as The Salt Path. However, it was great to catch back up with where Ray and Moth went once they left the path. Also get to experience her writing The Salt Path and working up the courage to send it an agent.

THE WILD SILENCE by Raynor Winn (The Salt Path) has been my "go to" book for the last few days – any spare minute and I am joining Ray and her husband, Moth, on their adventures. I would definitely recommend reading The Salt Path first – that award-winning title tells the story of Moth's serious medical diagnosis and the almost simultaneous loss of their farm, resulting in a 630 mile trek along England's South West Coast Path from Somerset, through Devon and Cornwall, to Dorset. In this new memoir, Winn shares the struggle of her mother's death, provides some back story about The Salt Path's publication, and recounts their efforts to rewild a farm and travel yet another walk in Iceland. Her nature writing is exquisite and, despite all of their hardships, the hopeful perspective shines through again: "Don't 'be careful on the stairs,' run up them, run as fast as you can, with no fear of clocks ticking and or time passing. Nothing can be measured in time, only change, and change is always within our grasp, always simply a matter of choice." THE WILD SILENCE received a starred review from Kirkus. Highly recommended in tandem with The Salt Path.

Have been eagerly awaiting this book. After reading Winn’s previous book, The Salt Path, I’ve wanted to know more about this couple, their families, their past, their present. All of that unfolded in this beautifully written book. Did they “settle down”? Did the continue to walk? Both?

I was enthralled by the author’s first book, The Salt Path, where, after losing everything and reeling from her husband’s dire diagnosis, Winn and her husband set out on an epic hike on a 630 mile hike along the British coast. This book picks up as the couple tries, unsuccessfully, to reintegrate into the “real” world. When they are offered a decrepit farmhouse in Cornwall, they retreat to nature to begin transforming the farm and themselves
