THE CAPTIVE tells Brooke Holland ‘s story. Living in a rural state that has seceded from the urban communities around them Brooke and her husband and two daughters work on a farm. They barely makes ends meet but seem content to live in a secluded environment. One day an intruder shows up. Stephen Cawley is a wanted man. Unbeknownst to her husband Brooke and Cawley have a history. The Holland and the Cawley families have a long standing feud and a history of violence. After capturing Cawley, Brooke makes the decision to turn him in and collect the bounty. Fearing other Cawley members are following Stephen’s trail Brooke insists the whole family make the long journey by foot to the next town.
Slowly the story of Brooke’s past is revealed as the group makes their way to the authorities.
I liked THE CAPTIVE by Fiona King Foster. While not as suspenseful as I had hoped for THE CAPTIVE did provide some interesting turns. I would describe it as a good solid read.
Thank you to Harper Collins Canada for providing an advanced e-edition of this book.
