Another exciting visit to Verona Bay. When Ana Diaz (now Autumn Perez) witnessed someone disposing of a body, she was placed in WITSEC at the end of the trial. Having to move again, she was relocated to Verona Bay. Although trying to keep to herself as much as possible, she is very attracted to her neighbor, Sheriff Lincoln Jordan. She knows that a relationship between them is impossible, especially since he is a cop. A visit from her handler may mean that the threat against her life could be over, but then her home is broken in to and the nightmare continues. Lincoln is wildly attracted to Autumn and the result of their one passionate night together changes both of their lives. Will Autumn tell Lincoln about her past? If the killer is dead, then who is after her? A thrilling second book in this series…amazing characters and a story that will not let you stop reading. Autumn Perez has been in the witness protection program for ten years. Having settled in Verona Bay, she tries to stay under the radar and avoid getting involved with her next door neighbor. Unfortunately, being witness to a bank robbery exposes her location to the people seeking revenge for her testimony.

Quick enjoyable read. This is book 2 in the series - works fine as a standalone.

I'm a big fan of Ms Reus' books and read a whole lot of them but this one was... I don't know... missing something. I didn't feel the connection as I did with the first book in this series.

I'm looking forward to the next one of the series though.

I'd like to thank the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

Standalone in the Verona Bay series. Autumn is running from her past. She has settled in Verona Bay and is doing well. Lincoln is the town sheriff and her next door neighbor. They are drawn to each other.
This mystery, drama romance will have your heart racing, smiles breaking, gasps, and steamy scenes will cause you to blush. Amazing one sitting read.

I loved this book! Katie Reus does romantic suspense so well!! This series is awesome!! Great characters and wonderful storylines makes for hours of enjoyment. Lucky us as readers. We met both characters in Dark Memento. Lincoln is Lucas' brother. Autumn and Lincoln are so great together even if it took them (well mostly her) some time to realize it. Neighbors for a while, one day they take it a little further and that leads to more than they had bargained for. Autumn is very hesitant because of her past and even her current situation. Because Lincoln is the sheriff, she is hesitant about telling him everything. Things got a little hairy there for a bit near the end, but luckily things have a way of working out when they are meant to be.
Can't wait for more from Verona Bay and Katie Reus.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

This was a quick and easy read for me. I've always enjoyed Katie Reus books and this is no different. Deadly Past is Book 2 in the Verona Bay series and although I find the book enjoyable, I do feel that something is missing hence only 3 stars for me.

Thanks NetGalley for the copy.

DEADLY PAST is a gripping, thought-provoking, and riveting read.

DEADLY PAST has a number of characters and side stories that will keep readers spellbound and craving more within this world. We watch as a missing boy is found (with a couple struggling with an attraction with one another), gossip is a natural everyday thing, an irate father causes trouble at the school, a hacker brings the bad guys closer, a sweet puppy who had an abusive background but brings love, and a visit to his family brings a bit more peace to a worried young woman.

This story started out strong! I was hooked from the very first chapter! I love a good romance story with some mystery involved and this one did not disappoint. Stop reading reviews and just read the blurb - best to go in blind with this one.

Autumn gave up her life and dreams as she had known at twenty three, now once again, in this small town of Verona Bay, she is saying no. A life here with friends, and a baby coming. A sexy neighbor is who she called after the incident, why not 911, and then that look of concern when he came, puzzled her. She had boundaries around her, and never called him by his first name. Checking on her later, a glass of wine, she was cold, and now wondering what she had done, no way, he was law enforcement. He had been wanting to get to know her better, and hope this would continue. Her past comes back and threaten Lincoln and her, would she realize she needed him in her life. Good story of excepting love and protection from Lincoln. Given ARC from Net Galley and KR Press for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

I have read many series by Katie Reus and many who have read my review knows that for me the author is a hit or miss. This story works will and flows with the grace of a teenager at his first dance. The story uses the easiest way to get two characters together with very little effort between the two characters.

The author uses this story to set up the next in the series. With the tight knit characters that are all in the friend zone each one circling each other waiting to pounce on their one true love.

The author has a way of writing that even though it is basic it will pull reader into the world of Verona Bay each character readers are able to connect with. The writing is perfect flow for readers of simple romantic suspense stories.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for a advance copy of Katie Rues Deadly Past.

Can this be full of more drama?!! I loved it!!! Not only does it have the drama/suspense aspect it also has so much romance I’m seriously in love with Lincoln.

So Autumn is in witness protection, she witnessed a horrible murder coverup and she’s been in hiding pretty much for more than 10 years. She’s settled in beautiful florida, has a great job, amazing friends and a gorgeous neighbor. Lincoln is EVERYTHING! Anyway, so something happens to her while living in that town and she calls Lincoln for help. He comes to the rescue of course and when he comes to check up on her, he’s been crushing her since she moved to the small town a year ago, they click and the attraction is sooo THERE! I had to fan myself, not being dramatic, especially if you are a romance novel lover like me, you will understand.

Anyway, she has even more drama coming her way, not only is she pregnant from her one night stand with her gorgeous neighbor, who’s the sheriff, her past comes back to haunt her, and when she thought she in the clear, she finally opened up and also did the same with her relationship with Lincoln, I’m telling you guys this is the type of book I needed this week, aside from that drama, which is major other characters in the book also had a sad past, I realized that this is part of a set of books that goes in order and this one might be book number 2, can’t wait for book number 3.

Thanks Netgalley, and KR Press the publishers for letting me read this steamy romance novel.

I loved the first book in this series Dark Memento , however in comparison Deadly Past fell seriously short. When I pick up a romantic suspense, funnily enough those are the two key elements I want to find and sadly here, neither were particularly forthcoming. Whether I’ll read Easton’s book when the time comes is yet to be decided.

4.5⭐

Deadly Past was a real page turner of a story. That takes a subtle threat against art teacher Autumn, and slowly builds the suspense and tension to a point where you're not sure where the danger is going to come from and who is going to strike first. And whilst everything was a little too neatly tied up in the end, I did really enjoy the story. So much so, I read it in one morning. Not to mention I really loved the small town setting, the characters, and the romance, which was well-developed and engaging. And I really hope there is more to come from this series in the future. Would happily recommend.

4 1/2 Stars for this heart-pounding romance!

I just loved Autumn ... she went through so much at such a young age and came out stronger. And who wouldn’t want a hunk like Lincoln looking out for them? I really liked that their relationship developed over time even though they both could feel the electricity between them. I also loved the mystery of who was doing what to screw with Autumn’s life ... was it her past coming back to haunt her or was it someone from her present? Although this book can be read as a stand-alone, I think that I would have related to the other characters more had I read the 1st book ... which I will totally go back and read. I can’t wait for the next book ... which I presume will be the other brother’s story.

When Autumn was 22 she witnessed a man hoisting a dead body into a dumpster and the pictures she took of him along with her testimony sent him away for life. Because of 2 attempts on her life she entered witness protection. Ten years later she has finally found a place she wants to call home. A place where she has friends, a job she loves and a home she’s made her own. But one day she’s in the bank when it gets robbed and she’s afraid her picture will get out there and she will be found. So when Lincoln, the Sheriff and her neighbour, comes over to console her, they end up having a hot night of passion.

Lincoln has had his eye on Autumn for awhile and after the night they spent together, he wants to make her his. But she won’t have any part of it ... so for now he’ll bide his time and be her friend. When they found out that they are going to be parents, Lincoln’s protective nature takes over. When strange things start to happen to Autumn, she fears she’s been found.

Autumn Perez was twenty-two when she witnessed a brutal murder and went into witness protection. A decade later, she is living in Verona Bay teaching art at the local high school. Her quiet life quickly changes when a harrowing event puts her in danger. She is determined to stay in Verona bay, especially considering she is pregnant with her sexy next door neighbors baby.

Autumn and Lincoln’s story was very good. I really like next door neighbor romances and this one was great. Autumn is a kind and artistic person but she is terrified of forming a relationship with Lincoln since she is in WITSEC. She eventually realizes this might be her one chance at happiness and agrees to a relationship. I liked Autumn. She was smart, kind, and wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself when necessary.

Lincoln is local Sheriff. He was protective but not overbearing. I loved how he took care of Autumn and papered her all the time. He really was a great hero and a great partner. Autumn and Lincoln’s relationship started backwards with a baby first but I still can imagine these two having a HEA.

While this was a romantic suspense book it wasn’t as suspenseful as I thought it would be. There are very minor suspense points until the end when the bad guy is caught. I still enjoyed this story a lot though and look forward to book 3, which I assume is going to be Mac and Adeline’s.

I just love books that are set in a small town setting. The more the characters to get to know and loves always seem to bring me into their lives more. That's one of the perks of the Verona Bay series.

Lincoln is also a huge reason why I enjoyed Deadly Past. He's the town's sheriff and has had a thing for his neighbor ever since she moved in. As we get to know Lincoln, he proves to be a true gentleman who is also very protective. He hinted at being a pretty possessive guy but unfortunately we don't get to see that side of him, only because he was holding back due to Autumn.

Autumn has had some pretty crazy and scary experiences in her life that has shaped her into being a cautious heroine. This is the big reason Lincoln had to tread a bit lightly around her. While I would have loved to see him more Alpha in this, it was a big reason we got to see how much of a gentleman he was. I'm just as drawn to that characteristic that seems to be rare in books these days.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. As Lincoln courts Autumn, we have her past catching up to her and a few mysterious things that creep in that keeps us on our feet. We've already got hints for the next couple in the book and I'm very curious about a few of those hints left behind.
