This new (one) from Alexa Aston was hands down one of my favourite books of 2020. I knew I was going to love it, based on her previous books, but Hollywood Enigmais one of the top 5 books I’ve read this year … If you want to get lost in a story, lose track of all time, then this book is for you. Happy reading everyone
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Even though I dove into this series out of order, I really adored Hollywood Enigma. In it, you will meet Wynn and Scarlett. She is a lawyer and he is an actor. Mostly known for his role, Carbon Man, and he really wants to stop being the superhero. At this point in his life, he feels like the role is over for him. He can't do anything new with the character and feels it is time to move on.
So the moment that they they meet, they have sparks. It didn't take long for her to become his lawyer and try to work her magic to get him out of the contract. It also didn't take long for things to spark between them. Now these two had chemistry and I really enjoyed them just hanging out. Yeah, you could smell the sexual tension between them but I ate it all up.
After falling in love with these two, I just knew that the drama was going to come around the corner. It did and of course - they assumptions flew off the roof. A little crazy here and there but I had hope that they would find their way back to one another.
In the end, it was adorable and I really enjoyed these two. Definitely going to finish the rest of the series just to fall in love with each and every couple.
He needed an entertainment lawyer to help him get out of his contract. She was a great lawyer, but wanted to find love and get married. When the two meet, their attraction explodes!
Wynn Gallagher was ready to stop playing the stereotypical role and wanted more for his career and life. He had kept himself personally out of the spotlight as much as possible. He knew loss in his life and had dealt with a lot.
Scarlett Corrigan had worked her way up as a lawyer and was beautiful, smart and ready to find the right man and have children as all of her friends had... After passing one night with Wynn, she felt she had made a mistake and practically ran from him.
But fate stepped in it seemed because Wynn was determined to pursue her and he was all she would think about. Could these two have a future?
Another amazing story in this series and unfortunately the last one. I began reading due to the author and I can honestly say, I have enjoyed each book and cannot wait to see what Alexa comes up with next!!
Wynn, the hero, had won the hearts of many adoring fans during his long running superhero series, but he’d lost his along the way. Yeah, he just wasn’t into playing that particular role anymore. Like the synopsis spells out, Scarlett is the right source to shake himself loose from the binding contract keeping him from moving on to newer, more challenging opportunities.
The enigma for me here is really liking that intriguing synopsis, finding Wynn a decent enough, likable guy, getting invested in this main couple’s romance, but finding the writing meandering at times to the point I found myself skimming, mostly after halfway. Basically starting when Scarlett came up with a clever plan but turmoil kept popping up. Despite three events thrown in meant to rivet me, the writing lost some of its spark and fizzle, thereby, lowering my rating somewhat.
The fight/argument Wynn and Scarlett felt immature and too impulsive to actually cause a brief break up between two logical, level headed adults. At least it was used as a catalyst that led to some groveling and making up.
Title: Hollywood Enigma, Series: Hollywood Name Game (Book 5), Author: Alexa Aston, Pages: 241, stand-alone but part of a series, famous actor, lawyer heroine, not a man ho, a couple very graphic smex scenes, pushes her away, groveling.
Book 1 - Hollywood Heartbreaker
Book 2 - Hollywood Flirt
Book 3 - Hollywood Player
Book 4 - Hollywood Double
Book 5 - Hollywood Enigma

4.5 Stars!
I am so glad I discovered author Alexa Aston and her Hollywood Name Game series. I have read all five books and each one delves into the genuineness of the movers and shakers in Hollywood. The personalities are real and not what the public perceives them to be. This cast of characters becomes a family and never fails to be there for one another. Hollywood Enigma is the fifth and final book in the series and it can enjoyed as as standalone.
Actor Wynn Gallagher made lots of money and became quite famous playing superhero Carbon Man. After a few action-packed films, he wants to challenge himself with more dramatic roles. However, in order to due so he needs to get out of his current contract. As a result, he hires Scarlett Corrigan, a smart, talented and well-respected entertainment lawyer. In addition, Scarlett happens to be the sister of one of Tinseltown's highest paid actors, so she has many connections within the entertainment industry. Wynn and Scarlett share an instant chemistry that evolves into much more.
I love books that revolve around Hollywood. Wynn and Scarlett have a fear of commitment until they realize they are in love. They are a hot couple and their sexy times are seductive. This book has wonderful characters and more than a few moments that are emotionally meaningful. The author's writing style is easy to understand, and the story flows effortlessly from beginning to end. Overall, a solid romantic read.
Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
This is the fifth and final book in this series and it is by far my favorite! Hollywood Enigma is Scarlett & Wynn's story and I honestly think this author's writing just got better with each book that was released. I loved this couple even though generally I'm not a big fan of Hollywood romances. Very enjoyable and glad that I took a chance on this series. Even though each book can be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading them in order to get the most enjoyment out of this series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
I thank NewGalley for an advanced copy of this book.. I also purchased my own copy in the advance sale and own all of the books in this series. I have enjoyed all of them and this one ranks at the top of favorites. This is the story of Scarlett and Wynn. Scarlett is an entertainment attorney (and sister to Rhett) and Wynn is an actor who is unhappy with the trajectory of his career. The two meet because Wynn needs help getting out of his contract and Scarlett is the best of the best. Sparks ignite from there! This is the final book in this series and a great ending. Well done Ms. Aston.
The last of the Hollywood Name Game series. This was a quick read as I didn't want to put it down. The characters of Scarlett and Wynn are both powerhouses in their own fields. But both met the other when they were wanting more of their personal lives. It also reiterates how important family is. Each of the books in this series can be read alone, but each is so good why not read them all!
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley for my voluntary, honest review.
Will they be able to drop the walls around their heart to let one another in ...
I am quite sad to say goodbye to this group of friends.
And while all began with Rhett Corrigan, it closes with Scarlett, his sister.
Scarlett is an iron hand is a velvet glove, she handles everything and leaves nothing even details non addressed.
But after years being on top of her job, she is seeking something else, she wants something for herself, she wants more than success in her line of work, she wants inner fulfillment that her job can not provide her.
Wynn is a conundrum, outside his duty to his acting roles, he lives a very lonesome life. He trusts no one except his siblings. Still, he too is looking for something new, while he does not yet what it is, but to get him out of his actual contract, he needs a shark, as no one is better to navigate muddy water than a predator.
Their first encounter sees sparks fly and heat reaching some peak, until Scarlett backtracks, scared by Wynn’s notoriety.
But Wynn, now sure he has seen his future in Scarlett’s eyes, will not let her run away without a fight.
And while his wooing operation goes smoothly, it is without having to address life’s dents and holes, and dents and holes and worse will be thrown on their path, up to them to face them the mind clear, else everything can go to flames.
The epilogue adds a lovely and tender note to this series.
4.5 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
4 1/2 Stars for this lawyer and client!
This is my favorite book of the whole series! I just loved Scarlett and Wynn ... they brought out the best in each other. Scarlett was tough as nails but she just turned to putty in Wynn's hands. And Wynn was quiet and stayed to himself but Scarlett brought him into her circle of family and friends and he flourished. This book has quite a few twists and turns and had me saying WTF! I love it when a book surprises me. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and I'm sorry that this is the final book in the series. I really like how couples from the earlier books were in the next book quite a bit ... that really tied them all together, but each book did read as a standalone. A great finish to a great series!
I received an early copy courtesy of the author thought NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Scarlett is a legal shark who does not trust anyone in her small circle of family and friends. Wynn is an internationally famous actor who keeps to himself and is very private. Wynn is looking to shed the role that had made him famous and he is looking for the best entertainment attorney out there - and that's where Scarlett comes in.
The two become eventually involved when the attraction is impossible to ignore, but tragedy strikes twice and the two may not survive with their relationship intact. I really enjoyed this book! It was so good to finally get to Scarlett's story and she and Wynn are perfect for each other!
This is book five in the Hollywood name game series. Each book is a standalone with intertwining storylines.
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a shame this is the final book in this series because these are amazing! I love the characters and how they all seem to come alive and feel like family as you read the books. It’s like watching a series on TV and you start identifying with all the characters!
Actor Wynn is a withdrawn recluse from society, but he reaches out thru Scarlett an entertainment lawyer to rejoin the world. She includes him in her family dynamics of wonderful friends and family, but things take some intriguing twists that could jeopardize their lives! This book is well written and the characters will reach out to your heart!
Alexa Aston is a masterful writer and her skills make her characters jump off the pages!
I hope she reconsiders and writes a few more books with these characters!
I definitely would recommend this book to everyone who is truly looking for a great read!
Hollywood Enigma by Alexa Aston
This is book 5 in the series, but it is the first book I’ve read by this author.
Because I’ve missed the other stories, there is information and friendships that are new to me. Even though this is a standalone, I think reading the other couples books, would help.
To me the sentences were sometimes to long to be part of a conversation, as they were only interrupted by a period and not a sigh or other emotion to support the rambling.
Also this was a very fast paced love affair starting in chapter five after only having met in chapter three and it was still the same evening.
The openness after a quick romp in between the sheets from both Scarlett and Wynn was not pillow talk but what Scarlett wants from life after having just dumped her boyfriend of a few months that morning.
I skimmed the rest of the book, not really feeling the chemistry and not liking the characters that much. I’m sorry, I must be the only reviewer who did not know about the series or connected with the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
I let this sit on my kindle for a week as I do not want this series to end. I loved these books, the writing, the story, and the characters just spoke to me. Some authors just pull you in with the first page, Ms. Aston and this series have done just that. Each book can stand alone, but much better read in order, as most of the characters are in each story. A unique thread through each book covers some aspect of movie-making.
We finally are getting to Scarlett’s story. Scarlet is a smart, independent woman, but when it comes to relationships she is insecure. Wynn Has been burned to the point of retreating to family only in his life. He has become an internationally successful Actor, but a ghost other than his premiers. He needs Scarlett to help him with his contract, as she is the best. Chemistry is instant and hot, but do they cross the line of business and pleasure. Can he be pulled into her trusted inner circle? I highly recommend reading this series.
I have read other books by Alexa Aston but haven't read all the books in this series. It was okay though and I wasn't lost. It's a stand alone although I got the feeling that I would probably get more of the in jokes if I have read the entire series. It's a romantic story and I enjoyed it a lot. I did enjoy the strong characters in the book and it's a great story too.
I really enjoyed this story. The start of the book was great and caught my attention immediately. I am of the opinion that is a novel starts out rough and is difficult for a reader to get into then that just sets the mood for the whole book. This book did NOT have this problem. The characters were very well developed and relatable (to a point). Overall this was a lovely story. Although this is book number five in the series, this can be read as a stand alone. I have not read the others in this series, but after reading this book I will be looking at the others as the characters had great stories of their own.
Hollywood Enigma the fifth and final story in the Hollywood Name Game series was an engaging and sweet read. That unlike the previous ones doesn't have that element of mystery or suspense. Yet that didn't make it any the less enjoyable and there were a few surprises along the way not only for Scarlett and Wynn, but the characters I have come to love whilst reading these books. Additionally the romance this time wasn't quite so instant, but it was pleasing. Although I'm not sure I felt it as much, but it was lovely to see Scarlett a character I have liked throughout get her happy ending. And the epilogue was a lovely way to end rounding off not only Scarlett and Wynn's romance, but those of her friends and family. Would recommend.
I was so mad in behalf of Wynn of what his girlfriend Stephanie did to him.... Scarlett being a bad ads woman who is an entertainment lawyer.. Pretty good book overall.
What a way to end this series! I read this straight through. Wynn and Scarlett are great together. They have amazing chemistry. The build up of their romance is steamy and sweet. I love a book that makes you feel like you're visiting old friends. This one wraps up things for all the characters of the series. The ending was perfect.
I have loved every book in this series. Am sad to think that this could be the last book in the series though.
Scarlett finally gets her happily ever after. She and Wynn are so cute together.
