First of all, every Hallmark watcher needs to get this. McMillan is known for her love of Hallmark movies, and it is so evident in the pages of this book. It's fun, and something that you can use every Christmas. I highly recommend getting a copy for yourself!

"A Very Merry Holiday Movie Guide" by Rachel McMillan is a must-read for every Holiday season lover!

"A Very Merry Holiday Movie Guide" is a comprehensive and very well researched book that lists every Hallmark, made-for-tv movie you need to see during the holiday season. The book is divided into 16 different chapters that all focus on a different type of Holiday movie from Book Lover's to Romantic to New Years. When I say comprehensive, I mean Comprehensive. McMillan has done her research on these movies and she has done it well. I loved this book because the love McMillian has for Christmastime and Hallmark movies is palpable through every single page. This book is more than just a big list of movie to watch. McMillan weaves in her own personal stories along with recipes and fun activities you can do to help create even more holiday spirit.

This book has no business being as fun as it was! I wish I had read it all before Christmas last year but now I'm well prepared for this holiday season and I can't wait to make my way through her list of movies.
5/5 stars

Thank you NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers for this e-arc of a "A Very Merry Holiday Movie Guide" in exchange for an honest review.

I like Christmas films made for TV and I was very excited for this book - which may have affected my rating because... The book is a bit more about Christmas than about the films. That does not make it a bad book, it's actually quite a nice read, but I wanted more than just a few film recommendation and the enhancing of the most popular tropes when it comes to made for TV Christmas films.

It's still a nice fun read.

A Very Merry Holiday Movie Guide by Rachel McMillan is not a necessity but it is SO MUCH FUN!

While I did not get a change to download the eARC from the publisher, I was able to get a digital copy from my library. After finishing the book in one sitting cover to cover, I also requested they purchase a physical copy. Although, I plan on treating myself to a copy for my birthday this year as it is a few weeks before Christmas.

If you love, overly happy, some would say cheesy, Christmas movies such as Hallmark or Lifetime movies, this is a perfect book for you.

So many fabulous recommendations and I loved all the food ideas. While I have most of these movies in my collection already, the for ideas are invaluable. I also loved her recommendation on how to start your own collection. I have an ever growing collection, especially of Hallmark movies. I keep a note if which ones I loved watching on TV and hunt for deals on them throughout the year.

For me this is a must buy book although I am sure many could argue I don't NEED it. I think it would be a fun gift for someone you know loves these types of movies.

I received an eARC from Harvest House Publishers through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

First, this is a carefully researched book with a pleasing, user-friendly layout. The author did her homework. It contains everything you want to know if you are a movie buff and enjoy fluffy, feel good movies with Christmas themes (or more serious classics like "A Christmas Carol"). The book contains a brief synopsis for many modern Hallmark Channel type, escapist flix. You'll also find recipe and fashion suggestions to make your movie marathon fun. If this is the type of book you're looking for, you'll be a happy camper. Chapters offer dozens of suggestions for enhancing the ambience of your Christmas movie watching.

And now, the surprise. I had to check to make sure this book was published by Harvest House. Surely, this book couldn't have been published by this publisher I so appreciate for thoughtful texts that help followers of the OBJECT of Christmas grow in their relationships with Him.

What was glaringly missing in a book about Christmas anything, was the reason for the season. No explanation of the Christ of Christmas (but a lot about Santa). This was a missed opportunity. I realize the publisher can use titles like these to influence those whose celebration of Christmas is merely cultural . . . but a presentation of the Gospel was absent. Therefore, despite the incredible organization, despite the beautiful layout, despite the meticulous research, sadly, we can only give this book one star.

This is a fun little read if you love Hallmark Christmas. Rachel divides the book into themes like baking, shopping, etc. Under each theme is a list of movies, food, activities, ideas, etc that all go together to make the experience complete. It is such a fun idea.
I will confess I did not read the whole book, but it was nothing against the author. Once I realized that our library did not carry many of the movies listed, I lost a bit of interest in continuing to read the book. I had been hoping for a good list of movies I could borrow from the library to watch over the holidays.
I received this book from NetGalley and was not required to write a positive review.

This book was so nostalgic! It did list a lot of movies I'd already watched but the book gave me such a Christmassy feeling and I was so happy to read it. Will be looking out for it in my nearest bookshop.

A very merry holiday movie guide is a great companion to the best time of the year- holiday movie season! I loved that this book had themed chapters with each theme being structured the same. There is a chapter for whatever genre you are craving. Pet lovers, travelers, royal fanatics....all there, and more. Within each chapter there are suggestions for movies, party ideas, festive facts, new traditions, etc. Ibfound the festive facts the most fun. This author is perfect for this book. I think she'd also be perfect to have a Christmas movie themed blog for the hundred or so new movies every year.

A Very Merry Holiday Movie Guide is a fun little book to help welcome the festive season into with her way of celebrating the festive season with class and fun.

Although this is no a definite guide on the Holiday films that are offered up each and every year especially by the Hallmark channel but it does delve into about a third on what is to offer for the Christmas season and touches some fun films whilst not totally exhausting the back catalogue.

If you are a fan of Hallmark Christmas films, this is a good place to start and although most of these films are very similar in nature, there are some excellent suggestions and finds to be discovered. The only downfall would be that like a new car, this book pretty much depreciates with each year and as Netflix, Amazon etc are hopping on the festive season, it would be pretty difficult to keep afresh on what there is on offer each year. Saying that, it did help me discover some hidden gems in an overcrowded market.

Book deserves honorably mention for layout a lone which has been lovingly put together.

When I saw this book on NetGalley, I knew I had to read it. While I do not have a Hallmark or Lifetime subscription, I watch my fair (more than) share of holiday movies (throughout the year). And this book is so perfectly giftable — for that — well, most anyone you know; the book is divided into themes, with chapters set aside for a book lovers celebration, or one for the adventurous traveler. You can find something if you love animals, or music, or fashion, or ….. Includes tips for traditions, ideas to get yourself setup to watch the movies in customized movie lists for each theme, as well as fun facts, and more. Even when the movies listed might not be ones you find where you live, you will be inspired!
Disclaimer: Thanks to NetGalley for the e-review copy of this book.; opinions are my own.

Rachel McMillan has given readers the perfect stocking stuffer and cozy Christmas read with her new book A VERY MERRY HOLIDAY MOVIE GUIDE, in a year where it is needed now more than ever. Although the central theme of the book is made-for-TV Christmas movies, albeit for good reason with millions of viewers tuning into to their premieres, it’s about so much more and there is something for everyone inside this holiday gold mine. It contains festive facts about universally favorite classic Christmas movies, music, and food as well as ideas for new Christmas traditions, activity suggestions, and fun movie-themed quizzes. A VERY MERRY HOLIDAY MOVIE GUIDE is the recipe to #makeyourjoy this Christmas season and bring that same Christmas joy to the reader that the book’s curated lists of Christmas movies do , bringing:
a cup of Christmas magic
a spoonful of Christmas spirit
a dash of Christmas peace
a smidgen of Christmas hope
a pinch of Christmas tradition
Many readers will not be able to spend Christmas in the same way, with the same traditions, and with the same loved ones as usual due to the current pandemic conditions. Rachel’s book not only offers ideas for new traditions that perhaps the reader could use instead this holiday, but also party suggestions for Christmas in July for those who may have to wait to celebrate with family next year. For those readers who are ‘Hallmarkies’, you may want to have the Hallmark Movie Checklist app handy upon reading the book, for all the suggested movies you might add to your TBW list!
I would also be amiss if I didn’t mention Laura L. Bean’s beautiful illustrations throughout the book and adorable cover artwork. The distinct red/black/white color palette pairs so perfectly with the book and should inspire many ‘Insta’ shares and ‘Christmas Card’ moments. The vintage drawings provoke the same warm, nostalgic, and cozy feelings of the festive decor, happy endings, and endearing love of Christmas movies that inspired this book!
So grab a copy of A VERY MERRY HOLIDAY MOVIE GUIDE to add to your hygge toolkit and #makeyourjoy this Christmas season!

This was a nice book. I’ve not read anything like this before and was quite intrigued.

The book was nice, a collection of different types of Christmas folk like the book lover’s Christmas, The Family Christmas, The Music Lover’s Christmas and so on. Each different Christmas chapter gives you ideas for what movies to watch, what snacks to have and new traditions to start, all of which tie in to the type of Christmas the chapter is about.

It was nice, but I do think I struggled to enjoy it fully reading the PDF, I will look out for a hard copy which I think might work better, the illustrations were gorgeous.

The author’s love of all things Christmas certainly comes across in this book. She also discusses some of her own thoughts, memories and traditions for Christmas.

From ideas for films to watch, Christmas recipes, ideas for get-togethers, what to wear, and more, this is a lovely book to dip into if you need ideas on how to do Christmas.

I enjoyed some of the interesting facts and history of some Christmas carols and traditions too such as how to say Merry Christmas in 10 languages, and when and why we started to eat turkey at Christmas.

The book is clearly aimed at the U.S. market but there is enough to make it interesting to us in UK

This book has really cute suggestions for Hallmark movie watching parties, can’t wait to try out some of these ideas with my friends.

I sort of thought this would be less recommendations of Hallmark Christmas movies and more a fun way to get in the Christmas spirit. Which I guess it would have been if I wasn’t already a big fan of hallmark Christmas movies. Most of her recommendations I already had opinions on, so I don’t think I was really the target audience. If you haven’t ventured into Hallmark Christmas movies, or are looking for recommendations from years past, this is for you.

“People love these predictable festive movies because they provide what daily life in our tumultuous world cannot: a feeling of wholesome goodness and consistent portrayals of values, hope, and faith” (page 7). If there ever was a year when we can use a little of that, it’s this one.
This is a fun holiday book broken up into 15 themes like “The Book Lover’s Christmas.” I liked this sentiment. “To give a book is to give the first sentence of a prospective conversation. Gifting beloved books invites others to peek through a window to your world” (page 48). Each section has a list of Christmas movies that fit that theme as well as recipe ideas, decorations, games, whatever fits.
There are a multitude of ideas that would be great fun for planning a girl’s movie night around. For instance, there are several “royalty” Christmas movies that McMillan suggests watching while serving your own Royal Tea Party. I can’t wait to try this.
This is a cute book and great holiday resource that can be used for years to come. I’ve already tried a few movies on the list and will look forward to move.
Thank you to Harvest House Publishers for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
