I'm a big fan of The Scottish Bookshop Mystery series and this sixth installment is definitely one of my favorites! A bookstore, a treasure hunt, and classic works of literarure - what's not to love? Delaney finds herself on a treasure hunt through Edinburgh, with a very valuable book collection as the prize. The characters we encounter (those already known to us and new ones) are really interesting, and I loved getting to know Edinurgh better. I can't wait to read the next in the series! Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance digital copy!

A Scottish Bookshop Mystery #6

Edinburgh bookseller, Delaney Nichols, is at the Cracked Spine Bookshop working hard as usual, when a mysterious person in a cloak brings her a note. The note is from good old Shelaigh O’Connor, who at age 70 is still causing trouble. This time Shelaigh has come up with a treasure hunt.

A treasure hunt that will net the winner a first edition of The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson! And that’s not all, the winner also gets her entire library and some cash. Delaney is definitely in the race.

After their first meeting of the group of treasure hunters, Edinburgh finds itself with several home invasions. Some look a lot like Shelaigh’s previous tricks. When they find a man dead, a man Shelaigh knew, people are suspicious. Until Shelaigh herself goes missing.

Is this part of the game? A red herring? Or has a killer taken her out of the game permanently? And could Delaney be his next target?

This is such a good series. I really enjoy the characters and the setting.

Deadly Editions is the sixth installment in the Scottish Bookstore series by Paige Shelton. I really enjoyed this book, part of a delightful and charming cozy mystery series. American Delaney Nichols has ended up in Scotland looking for adventure, and her job at antiquarian bookstore The Cracked Spine has provided it. Delaney has recently married Tom who owns a small pub in Edinburg. She becomes involved in an exclusive treasure hunt hosted by eccentric socialite Shelaigh O'Conner. The winner will receive the vast contents of Ms O'Connors library. Edwin, the owner of The Cracked Spine encourages Delaney to take part in the treasure hunt and hopefully secure the library for the bookstore. The plot of the story, while interesting, almost takes a back seat to other aspects of the book. The descriptions of Edinburg and the magnificent Scottish landscape are rich and atmospheric. The secondary characters, Tom and the rest of Delaney's bookstore coworkers are delightful. This book can easily be read as a stand alone but I have enjoyed reading the series in order and getting to know the entire cast of characters.

“Deadly Editions” is the 6th instalment in the "Scottish Bookshop Mystery” series by Paige Shelton. I loved visiting Edinburgh, Scotland and the Cracked Spine book shop again. The story is full of quirky characters, a beautiful setting, and an interesting plot. I liked how this time we were exploring the tale of Jekyll and Hyde as well as a treasure hunt.

There were several possible suspects, and kept me guessing for quite a while. I was drawn into this story right away and did not want to put it down. Overall, I found it to be a very entertaining read that made me long to visit Scotland and read more about author Robert Louis Stevenson.

I highly recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Minotaur Books and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
A treasure hunt that turns deadly.

Bookseller Delaney should have been weary when a mysterious visitor shows up at her bookstore with a mysterious note from an eccentric socialite inviting her to a treasure hunt. She was known for her hijinks and was even accused of killing her former boyfriend but was acquitted.

The grand price is a valuable first edition copy of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson and will also receive the contents of her vast library, and an unspecified sum of cash which entices her to enter.

Things heat up on the first night as several homes are robbed like that what the eccentric socialite is known for and a man who is connected is killed by a stray bullet. Then she disappears as it appears that she might have been kidnapped.

Fear runs rampant in the city and Delaney life becomes a target. Will she figure out what is going on or will she be too late? A well written story.

I received a complimentary copy of Deadly Editions from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This was a very unique and interesting book. I found myself rooting for the novice detective to figure out the mystery...while at the same time, berating her for her stupidity in putting herself in danger. Overall, good book, though—loved the plot twist...I did not predict the ending!

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of DEADLY EDITIONS (Book 6 of the Scottish Bookshop Mysteries) by Paige Shelton in exchange for an honest review. When an eccentric and wealthy book collector Shelaigh O’Connor contacts Delaney Nichols to meet with her about obtaining her collection, Delaney’s surprised to find out the offer is to her, personally, rather than to her in her capacity as a bookseller at the Cracked Spine Bookshop. Shelaigh has gathered a group together to compete in a treasure hunt to find a prized volume of Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The first competitor to locate to book will win a fortune in rare books and money; the other competitors will receive a cash gift just for participating. As the group begins to follow the clues, a villain dressed as Mr. Hyde, or “The New Monster,” begins committing burglaries in the area and stalking the participants. The city is already in terror when one of the burglaries results in a murder. Delaney adds the identity of the killer to her scavenger hunt; then, Shelaigh is kidnapped. Can Delaney solve all of the mysteries before more people die during the monster’s rampage?

I liked this book and enjoy the series. I recommend this book to fans of the series and to fans of cozy mysteries featuring murder, monsters, eccentrics, classic literature, scavenger hunts, Scotland, pubs, and rare book shops.

Deadly Editions, Paige Shelton's sixth Scottish Bookshop Mystery, sees Delaney at work in The Cracked Spine when she receives a mysterious invitation. Delaney's invited to participate in an unusual scavenger hunt by eccentric Shelaigh O'Connor. The winner receives Shelaigh's extensive and valuable personal library. But then a murder happens and Shelaigh goes missing. Is she the murderer or another victim? It's up to Delaney and her usual cast of accomplices to discover.

This series is one big bit of dreaminess. Delaney, a transplanted American, has the perfect job working in a rare bookshop set in Edinburgh. Tom, her gorgeous husband, works nearby at his pub. Their coworkers and friends are all charming and quirky, always ready with the exact bit of information that Delaney needs to solve a mystery.

Paige Shelton brings The Cracked Spine to life with descriptions of its sights and smells. We get glimpses of Delaney's quirkiness when her intuition speaks to her as the voices of characters in the books surrounding her. The detailed descriptions of Edinburgh and its history make me want to visit. Of course, I'll need a cab driver with a fabulous accent to show me the sights.

If you're looking for a cozy mystery that's a gentle read with a likable amateur sleuth and bookshop adventures, this is the perfect series. There's even a bookshop dog for extra cuteness.

This is the sixth book of the Scottish Bookstore Mystery by Paige Shelton.
This story had me reading from beginning to end and loving all the characters involved. This is set in Edinburgh, Scotland where Shelagh O'Connor has and still is obsessed with the classic story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Shelagh O'Connor has set up a treasure hunt for a group of acquaintances who are promised, if they can figure the clues, will be given a library, a rare edition of Robert Lewis Stephenson's classic book as well as a hefty amount of money for all that is on the treasure hunt.
Each clue leads to a different pub, but there is a real live murderer on the lose.
This story had me guessing up to the end. A very well planned story and plot.

This is such a fun series, and I had a great time with this cozy mystery. I loved the plot, the twists and turns, and the characters! I absolutely love the Scottish bookshop setting, and I am eagerly awaiting the next book.

The sixth installment of the Scottish Bookshop Mysteries reunites readers with the wonderful cast of employees at the Cracked Spine in Edinburgh, Scotland. Goosebumps may crawl up your arms once you realize how protagonist Delaney Nichols has been set up as she and close acquaintances surge forth on a treasure hunt planned by an eccentric wealthy woman named Shelagh O’Conner who is obsessed with the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The story is thoroughly engrossing as Delaney and friends work as teams by searching local pubs in the area surrounding the Grassmarket in order to decipher the nifty clues leading to the treasure. It also becomes evident a psychopath is masquerading as Mr. Hyde. Readers will need to delve deep to figure out this murder mystery!

I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All opinions are my own. Thank you.

I had high hopes for this book, but unfortunately it fell flat for me, and I found myself skimming the pages. I tried several times to get into the story, but it was really a struggle.

This one was just OK for me. I put it down several times and read something else because the story just didn't catch my interest. The blurb made the story sound tempting and a Jekyll and Hyde scavenger hunt to get a valuable book (with a pay day even if the participants lost) sounded fun.

The hunt was kind of a bust for me and the participants less than interesting. The author tried to emulate Jekyll and Hyde elements in the story too, but they didn't add much for me.

I was able to finish, but only did so because I received the book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is one of my favorite series as I really like books set in bookstores. I especially liked the “pub crawl” created by the treasure hunt. I was in Edinburgh many years ago, loved it, and had planned to visit again in summer of 2020. Since that didn’t happen, I now have a list of pubs to check out when we are out of quarantine. The interwoven Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story made the story even more interesting. I didn’t quite “get” Shelagh O’Conner. She vacillates between eccentric but sharp and savvy to confused old lady. Overall, the great characters and fascinating atmosphere make this a book I recommend highly. While it could read as a stand-alone book, a new reader might want to read another in the series prior to this one.

Deadly Editions by Paige Shelton is Book 6 in the Scottish Bookshop Mystery Series.
I really enjoyed all the previous books in this series, but this one fell flat for me.

The treasure hunt felt off and the clues were very odd. Also there didn't seem to be much competition with everyone helping everyone else.

Delaney is a fantastic character along with the secondary characters , but this wasn't my favorite.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martins Press/Minotaur Books for providing me with a free advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.

What could be more fun than a treasure hunt? And what if the prize was a marvelous private library collection? And what, if in addition to that, all the contestants were all going to be awarded a large sum of money just for playing? Tempting??

Well, Edinburgh bookshop owner Delaney Nichols received an invitation to participate in this treasure hunt after it was delivered, out of the blue, by a mysterious delivery person. Delaney was one of four people to get such an invitation by the elderly, eccentric and wealthy Shelagh O’Connor. Once she arrived at the O’Connor estate she was overwhelmed by the size of the library, as well as the object of the treasure hunt – a rare edition of Robert Lewis Stephenson’s classic, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

O’Connor, a spinster, is obsessed with this book, so much so that in her youth she used to dress up and prowl the streets of Edinburgh as Mr. Hyde. It got her in hot water once, but will the present imitate the past? Once the hunt begins a “New Monster” seems to begin roaming the streets of Edinburgh and there are Monster sightings, a rash of burglaries, and even a death. Who is to blame, who is the monster and is Shelagh O’Connor a prime suspect due to her past eccentricities?

Delaney is on the hunt for the clues to the treasure hunt, and each clue seems to lead to a different pub in the city. Along the way she begins to uncover clues about O’Connor’s past until one day O’Connor is kidnapped, and her cousin is left a bloody mess by the attacker. Now the police and Delaney shift into high gear in their search for clues and to unlock the mystery identity of the Monster. Despite the treasure and the cash prizes, the race is on to find Shelagh and hope that the Monster has not taken the life of another victim.

The police are baffled, the clues seem to be impossible to follow, and all the while every person who knew or worked for O’Connor is a possible suspect.

This is a well written novel, one that keeps the reader guessing until the very end of the book and makes us wonder if there is not a little of Mr. Hyde in all of us. The book features the pubs of Edinburgh, believable characters and a very interesting plot. While being the 6th in the series, this certainly can be read as a stand-alone mystery and is an enjoyable novel for all mystery fans.
