While just a young innocent 18 year old, Sallie shared an unforgettable weekend with a man she'd never forget before he left her hotel room one morning and never returned, leaving her broken hearted. Now, on the run from someone who wants her dead, settled in the small town of Deer Haven, the last person she expects to find is the man who left her behind - and he doesn't seem to recognize her.

After leaving the agency, former CIA agent Jacob Donovan was happy to return to Deer Haven and the quiet life ranching provided. Not anxious to settle down, he spends time with his friends at the local bar, But since Sallie moved to his small town he's been unsettled. He doesn't understand his feelings, watching her, wanting her. Unwilling, unable to wait anymore, he picks her up in the small town bar, not knowing it's the woman who's been haunting his dreams since her returned home. He just knows being with her feels right, feels familiar and he isn't about to let her go.

When danger catches up with Sallie, Jacob swears he'll protect her. As Jacob discovers information about the danger stalking her, more questions are raised, secrets are revealed and the past threatens to tear them apart. But Jacob isn't ready to let her go again and he'll risk everything to prove it to her.

This story grabbed me from the very first sentence and didn't let me go. It's an intense, emotional story of a heart broken woman who isn't sure she can trust again and a man who finds he's been betrayed by his past. The writing is rugged and forceful, no flowery words, even in the bedroom. Sallie initially comes across as a shy, nervous woman, but we find she has a backbone and is willing to stand up to and for the man she's always loved even when he doesn't want her to. Jacob is a hard man, shaped by is past, loyal to his friends and grandmother and willing to do anything to protect those he considers his. Together Jacob and Sallie need to find a way to work together to overcome the danger stalking them.

There are so many secondary characters in this story I'd love to learn more about. I hope there are more Moving Violation books to come.

This is better than some of the more recent novels from Leigh. The characters are likable, the plot makes more sense (although still unbelievable). Unrequited love (or is it), amnesia (or is there), betrayal (but by whom?) makes for an interesting read.

Lora Leigh, hot cowboy, steamy love scenes, danger and suspense...what’s not to love?! In the second book of the Moving Violations Series by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick, we meet Sallie Hamblen who is on the run from what, she doesn’t know for sure. While on the run she ends up in Deer Haven only to run into Jacob Donovan, who she knew as Jake Rossiter. With the feeling that he forgot her she chooses to stay in town and just forge on. The night Jacob decides to make his move, everything changes. This books is everything I’ve ever loved about Lora Leigh’s books. There’s action, love, and of course a happily ever after.

Very steamy romance

Sallie has been on the run for 5 years and has spent the last 3 years in Deer Haven ... the town where Jacob lives. Jacob and Sallie (Krya) had a sensual weekend together 6 years ago ... but Jacob doesn't recognize her, so she avoids him and doesn't say a word. But the electricity between them is undeniable and they finally give in to each other.

The storyline was good, but I just found that Jacob was so over the top as the alpha-male character. Also, I just didn't understand why Sallie wouldn't have approached him saying they met before. But the sex scenes are hot and heavy ... leaving nothing to the imagination.

I received an early copy courtesy of St. Martin's Press through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

New authors for me. The mystery and suspense portion of the story was out of the ballpark for me and worthy of five stars. That being said the steamy and descriptive sex scenes were not to my liking and seemed repetitive. I found myself skimming my over them, thinking "not again". For that reason I would give it a 3.5 star

I hate giving a mediocre review. I seriously loved the plot, the suspense parts. The overblown “bedroom” scenes dominated over the other well written parts. Sallie wasn’t a push over, but when it came to Jacob she rarely had a spine. Jacob was protective (which I love) but almost to the point of overbearing. It was high on the can’t put it down scale. But then it ended abruptly without tying up a few loose ends. I didn’t read the first in the series, but it doesn’t sound like it’s a continuous story line.

Great book - the broody yet protective hero, the kick ass but vulnerable heroine. And sexy, hot! I would expect nothing less.

Suspenseful second-chance romance

Get ready for a backstory that will break your heart! Sallie remembers Jake, but he doesn't remember her. She's on the run, and all clues lead back to their first time together six years earlier. There are layers upon layers of conspiracy at play here which made for an intriguing story from start to finish.

As I've come to expect from this author, the intimate scenes are scorching hot and there are plenty of them. It's rare to see such a deeply primal connection outside of a PNR romance. Here, Jacob and Sallie's connection is white-hot and goes well beyond just their physical chemistry. Jacob is everything a gal could want in a possessive, protective, dominant lover, and he's not going to let anything stand in their way.

The HEA was solid, if a bit abrupt. There were too many story inconsistencies that slipped past the editing process for me to give this a full five stars, but they didn't detract from the overall reading experience. If you're looking for a steamy romance with secrets unfolding at every turn, this is the book for you. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Sallie Hamblen had three incredibly hot, sexy nights with undercover CIA agent Jacob Donovan and then he disappeared leaving her hurt and heartbroken. Sallie has been on the run when her life is threatened on several occasions. Now years later she sees Jacob again and he has no memory of her.

Jacob has no memory of the beauty he plans to seduce after meeting her in a bar. But he does have these vague memories of someone he was involved with and obsessed with. Once they become involved the threats once again return for Sallie and secrets are revealed. They will soon learn that this all has ties to their past involvement. Jacob will not let this threat separate them again.

3.5 stars

ARC received from Netgalley. This was an interesting story line. Lots of intrigue and secrets. I enjoyed the hot and steamy sex. The hero was arrogant as can be. I was confused about some things such as if he was on such a critical assignment how does he have time to spend 3 days in a hotel with her? If Jacob was in an explosion why does he have no scars? The constantly shifting POV sometimes in the same chapter was confusing and disorienting. There were lots of errors. Dm me if the author would like a list. The ending was abrupt .

I love a good Lora Leigh story. Team her with Veronica Chadwick and you get an extra good winner. Sallie and Jacob had met in Switzerland 6 years ago, but an accident took his memory of her. It broke her heart and when she moved to town and saw him, she thought that she was just a one night stand that he didn't remember. Later in the story, it tells you what happened to cause this. Someone kept attacking her and she kept running to keep ahead of them. This was a romance, an adventure, a mystery and all and all a very good story.

This was a great story with some outstanding characters but it did have its issues. Such as, quite a bit of editing problems, the same thing restated frequently, and I personally felt the ending was to abrupt, even an epilogue would have worked to tie the book together. Still, it was an enjoyable read for a Contemporary Western Romance.

I didn't love this book. The writing wasn't bad but I never cared much for the characters and found their relationship difficult to appreciate. Much of the story was questionably plausible.

Sallie is on the run, hiding in the same town the man she spent an amazing weekend with lives in but he doesn't remember her. She assumes she made so little impression he's forgotten despite it being the most best weekend of her life. Jacob is the town's hottest bachelor but has stayed away from Sallie for the three years she's been in town. Until now. Soon, Jacob's grandmother is threatened, Sallie is being stalked and Jacob and his buddies are on an intense CIA operation.

The coincidence of Sallie being in the same town as Jacob after they spent a night together overseas is pretty out there but things like this happen. His being a CIA agent with a team of operatives when she needs saving was pretty far fetched. Much of the story just didn't strike me as realistic...and I'm a fan of paranormals! Sallie's job is featured frequently but doesn't add to the story. Jacob's memory issues are strangely resolved.

Fans of Leigh or Chadwick may appreciate the story more than I did.

Sallie had a great 3 days in Switzerland but when he never came back to the hotel room she told herself to move on but over the next few yrs she has been on the run because someone is after "him" and going through her to find him. So when she saw Jacob three years ago memories of there night's consumed her and he acted like he never knew her. In the end the truth and secrets came out.

Complementary copy given for honest review and opinion. When you stop in the middle of the book to find other books in this series because you love this one so much, it is a very good indication of the greatness of this book. I LOVE THIS BOOK and the characters. Give me more! I can't wait to see what Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick do with these characters.

Sorry to say, but I DNF at 28% due to writing, flow and character POV.

The synopsis from NetGalley pulled me in as a woman who was in distress and a cowboy who saves her is right up my alley, but while reading I couldn’t differentiate on who was talking, when it switched over to a different POV (no break points) and I couldn’t tell when the scenes changed (view spoiler).

I wish the writing was better, as Lora Leigh’s books I am a fan of. Cowboys are a weak spot in my romance department as those alpha males are protective, dominant-usually and uber caring.

There was a lot more going on in this romance than I originally expected. Past history colors the current romance of Jacob and Sallie. Danger is present and Jacob enlists his very skilled friends to keep his love and his family safe. People are not all who they appear to be and the mystery untangles. This is a couple to root for and support.

Strong Silent Cowboy reunites the writing duo of Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick the latter of which sadly passed away at the end of 2019. For a story that see's rancher and former CIA agent Jacob Donovan reunite with Sallie Hamblen. Who is in Deer Haven, seemingly under orders from her stepfather, and who once met Jacob in Switzerland, although at the time both she and Jacob were using different names.

Yet, Jacob doesn't remember Sallie but after spending the night with her in Deer Haven he starts to get a feeling of déjà vu and when Sallie suddenly faces danger Jacob is the first to step up and help. However, their shared history complicates matters and as the danger intensifies Jacob and Sallie have to face up to the past if they're to have any chance of finding out who is responsible.

And with an abundance of sexy moments, likable characters, and a few twists. This genuinely was an interesting mix of cowboy romance and suspense, and I was fully engaged throughout, still I wish there had been an epilogue or something to round the story off.

Would recommend.
