Well, this was the most delicious slow burn that has ever existed.

I loved Adrian. She’s smart and motivated and strong as hell. I loved her loyalty to her friends and family and the bond they all had together. Raylan is charming and driven and a grounded. Together they have a great history and I loved reading their relationship progress. Plus there are two of the sweetest dogs ever.

Plot wise, it was so good. The suspense wasn’t as tension filled as I expected, but I loved the storyline and how it unfolded. Getting the killer’s POV was an extra creepy added bonus. I would have loved a future take apologize, but I’m probably being greedy.

Overall, it was a fantastic story with characters I loved. I can’t wait to get to another Nora romantic suspense.

FYI: scene of a dog getting shot on the page, you find out a few pages later it’s a tranquilizer gun, and the dog is fine

Nora Roberts was my favorite author for many years until about 6 years ago or so. I'm not sure if I changed or her writing style changed, but I just don't enjoy her books anymore. If you read Hideaway from last year, you basically read this book. Child has a traumatic event, meets her future romantic interest in grade school, is successful in her career starting at a young age, grows up smart and perfect, and throw in a villian to complete the mix. I was seriously bored. It was way too long and could easily have lost 100 pages.

Unfortunately, there was a lot in this book I disliked. I didn't like the writing style or structure. Maybe it's me, but sometimes I had to reread something a few times to even understand what was being said. Either because of vague or confusing references or because the sentence structure was lacking. The person who was speaking was not always identified, which was confusing for me. There were tedious descriptions of events and really drawn out conversations and lots of forgettable secondary characters, too many to keep straight.

The last third of the book picked up a bit with the suspense, but there were no surprises there. I figured that part out very early on. Sadly, I think this will be the last book I read from this author.

The first three quarters of this book were extremely slow and boring for me and I was leaning toward 2 stars. There was very little conflict or tension other than minor steps toward the final conflict. It was a lot of day-to-day routine. Even the romance was fairly boring with not a lot of tension. The final conflict bumped it up to 3 stars for me, as it was gripping and had lots of good action and tension. I feel like Nora Roberts has a similar thriller come out every summer, and this one follows the narrative pattern closely and is nothing too unique. I probably wouldn’t recommend it to anyone other than Nora Roberts mega-fans.

It’s been a while since I last read a Nora Roberts book and after reading Legacy, I’m wondering why. This book had everything you could want in a romantic suspense: childhood friends, abusive father, remote mother, loving grandparents and a truly scary villain. I loved watching Adrian grow up and come into her own. Two scenes had me sobbing out loud, while others had me laughing in joy. I highly recommend this book.

A very character driven story. Roberts can really create her characters well, both main and secondary characters. This book is mostly dialogue, which allows you to get to know the main characters through different events and their experiences. Legacy isn’t a typical contemporary romance. It’s the life story of Adrian and Raylan. Both their separate stories and their later, slowly developing friendship into relationship. We see what builds them to the people they are today.
It’s a mother daughter story and their somewhat unconventional relationship. It’s a group of friends who are each other’s family (my favorite type of read). It’s a suspense read though it plays more of a background role until the third part of the book when it intensifies. This was a comfort read for me. I haven’t read a Nora Roberts book in a while but I will now seek more out. When I came to the end, my thought was, “Now that was a good book!”.

This book was fine, it was way too long in my opinion. It was marketed as a thriller and romantic suspense, but the thriller element is barely present and I didn't feel that it was suspenseful at all. This is a family saga about a woman who has built herself up from her own ambition, despite sitiation. Her mother, who is also ambitious, let her career come first and her daughter come when she had a free moment between filming yoga videos and doing appearances. Adrian built her own fitness empire and family based on her desires and needs. When she starts receiving death threats, her mother passes them off as part of the business and tells her to move on. This is basically what the book does with the thriller aspect of the book. The book focuses on Adrian, her work as a fitness expert, her relationships with her Grandparents, her friends, her dog, and her life in the small town of Traveler's creek. This book is over 400 pages and the thriller aspect takes less than 25% of it. For me it got a bit repetitive with the workouts, filming videos, entertaining of friends, and waiting for the bad guy to make his move.

The writing was good. I like Nora Roberts as an author, but this was not the page turner I was expecting. The romance was slow burn, and when the couple finally gets together it wasn't in my opinion very exciting. The chemistry between them was kind of lack luster. I felt the same about the reveal for the suspense aspect. I had that part figured out very early on, so when it finally came there was no heart pounding suspense for me. It was very much "it is about time" because it took so long to get to the action. I feel had this book been significantly shorter I might have felt differently.

Overall I felt this book was a bit on the boring side. The pace was very slow and the characters were flat. They never really developed beyond who they were. I kept waiting for the action to pick up but it didn't. The family and friends scenes were very repetitive. If you enjoy family saga's you may really enjoy this book. The thriller aspect is fairly tame, there is not a ton of gory violence and there is so little of it in the book if you aren't a fan it won't turn you away from the main story. Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me.

Classic Nora Roberts that takes you through generations as they find their place in the world. Exciting but similar to many others.

Adrian was seven years old when she first met her father. While trying to protect her, her mother killed him. She lives in Traveler’s Creek now, with his grandfather in the family house. But she is been receiving threatening letter for more than ten years. Will her past haunt her forever or will she be finally free and have a future with love, family and friends? Great story.

If you've read any Nora Roberts or J. D. Robb you recognize the cadence, the tone, the word choices, the humor, the irony from the very first page. And of course we all agree the writing is excellent and not much can compare. It feels so warm, so good, so coming home. Sometimes the passion is right there, sometimes just implied, but it’s always sweet, special, honest and true. And there is also often shiver-inducing danger and mystery, fear of the unknown.

Legacy is an excellent addition to my Nora Roberts library. Adrian Rizzo has a good life, but it hasn’t always been easy and she has some terrifying memories. She and her mother aren’t what you would call close, but they are in each other’s lives and that seems to be enough. Her grandparents are the most important people in her world, and she is very close to them. Raylan, her childhood friend, was a promise. A promise of what could be, what could wipe away some of those memories. But Raylan is a promise that never got started, because Adrian has a secret and she won’t let herself have a relationship. It’s too dangerous. Adrian’s secret is that she has been receiving death threats every year since she was about seventeen years old.

After her beloved grandmother dies Adrian goes home – to her grandfather, the family restaurant, and the only place she ever felt was home. She moves her business there, some of her closest friends move there as well, and then Raylan moves there. There is a sense of small-town community, family, friendships, and tradition. A small part of Adrian’s mind start to whisper to her that maybe she really can have more than she’s allowed herself. Maybe she can let herself go and feel those feelings that want to escape.

The death threats aren’t downplayed, but they are in the background so that you almost – almost, mind you, but not really – forget about them as you get caught up in the beauty of Adrian’s day-to-day life. Which means you are shocked all over again each and every time Adrian receives another threat. And even more shocked when she decides she’s had enough and it’s time to meet – and stop – this monster.

Loved this book! Was captivating enough to keep me engaged! Suspenseful, well written and a great book to pick up as we round the bend towards summer.

It’s long, but...due to the fantastic writing style of Nora, it felt like I moved pretty quickly thru it.

Why I loved this: It is NOT a sappy, romance novel which is not my favorite to read. This one had full focus on characters, Family saga / drama and it slowly creeps up to full throttle.

Nora always rocks the character development and she didn’t fail once again!

Legacy by Nora Roberts is as good as a reader expects from this talented and accomplished author. I found the book interesting, the characters well defined and the suspense well time and played out.

Adrian is raised with wealth but little quality parental time as her mother builds her empire. At seven, meeting her father under the worst circumstances and witnessing him abusing her mother and dying, is a lot for any kid to deal with. Adrian is already focused, smart and creative when she finds just the right people at her private high school to help her launch her own internet presence doing yoga. The other students, chosen for their specific talents, soon become close friends and her support system.

After her grandmother's death, Adrian returns to her favorite place, her grandparents' Maryland home, to care for her grandfather. She finds she loves life in the small town and reconnecting with them people she knew as a young child is fun and rewarding. Her friend network grows quickly.

Raylan is Adrian's crush from way back when. As she rebuilds her relationship with his sister she also finds her attraction to Raylan is still strong.

Can these two find love as Adrian's stalked continues to send threatening notes and is speeding up the rate of contact and becoming more of a threat?

I like both Adrian and Raylan. There relationship develops nice and slowly as he takes his role as a single parent seriously. These two both have a lot to work through. Tragedies in their lives, upheavals and the contact threat of violence. Their story is very well-paced to get the reader in suspense and turning pages. When Adrian's mom reappears and wants to be part of her life and business there's even more tension and life changing. Add in the aforementioned stalker's escalating situation and the story is full! The book has a lot of facets and all were interesting.

I have never read a Nora Roberts book that I haven't like. I really enjoyed this one.

It has been a while since I read any Nora Robert books. At times especially in the beginning I found the book moved a little slow for my taste, but once I got caught up in the storyline I really enjoyed the book. I didn't like Adrian's mother at all, but I loved her grandparents. The town in Maryland that her grandparents lived seemed like it would have been an amazing place to live and raise a family. I was a little surprised that there wasn't a larger romance, until later in the book. Overall I found it well written but not up to the books I had read from her in the past. I would recommend it to those that enjoy her books.

I don't care what anyone says Nora Roberts is still one of my go-to, never-disappoints, favorite authors. She is the queen of heartwarming family stories and romantic suspense and this latest book did NOT disappoint. I love how her books follow a pretty standard formula plot wise but the characters are always unique and interesting and I always LEARN something new. In Legacy, Adrian is a self-made fitness guru/influencer and Raylan is a graphic novelist. Underplaying the lighter side of this story is the sinister stalker/serial killer and I enjoyed how that played out a lot - a poetry writing killer - not something you see every day! I also loved that this story featured a single dad and really highlighted the challenges of being a single parent from the male perspective and starting over after the loss of a spouse. Full of a great cast of secondary characters - friends, relatives and pets, this is the perfect summer read, especially if you love Nora Roberts like I do!

I haven’t read a Nora Roberts book in quite a while. Quite a bit happening in this book...infidelity, jealously, mother/daughter angst, friendship, family, murder, romance. Most characters are likable enough, I found Adrian semi-annoying, forcing her health/fitness routine on others. Mother/daughter relationship progressed at a snails pace, both coming across as cold, the the grandparents made up for it. Loved the dog romance!

Enjoyable, quick read perfect for a vacation. Wont disappoint for a quick escape.

I will read anything Nora Roberts writes. I have been reading and loving her books for decades (yes, decades!). I adore the In Death series she writes as JD Robb, I’m a fan of the trilogies that usually have a magical element with a side if romance, and I love the more recent standalone books (like this one) that are harder to pigeonhole into a genre.

I listened to this one. It might be my longest audiobook yet (14 hours and 57 minutes), and it’s narrated by January LaVoy who is my new favorite narrator. Seriously, she is excellent I can’t believe all the different voices for all the characters are her. I’m at a point where I could switch to my digital arc, but I am enjoying the listening experience so much I don’t want to give it up.

This book feels like a family saga. I love how the author takes her time with the story, zooming in for moments of interaction that let us know what’s going on with the characters, and then zooming out, letting days, weeks, and months go by before zooming back in again. These are complex characters who are living their lives. I also love how she presents the best selves of the characters. We know there has been hardship, but the focus is always on strength, resilience, hard work, and moving forward.

I love how listening makes me feel. I want to meet the characters and love in the book. There is a thriller component, some family drama, multi generations represented, strong friendships, interesting careers, and some romance. I am here for it all and don’t want it to end. I anticipate a book hangover for sure!

I am a big Nora Roberts fan and this book was so satisfying. A large group of good friends and a very independent, capable, young woman as the main character.. Adrian is the successful young business woman who is the target of a killer. I love how the story unfolded and you read the killers thoughts and try to understand the mentality, in sharp contrast to the idyllic life of Adrian and her wonderful friends in their small town. I highly recommend.

The first and last time that Adrian Rizzo met her dad was the day he tried to kill her and her mom. So things didn’t get off to a good start or finish that way. Adrian just wants a stable home and a mother who actually care about her. She has never felt loved by her mother and wants to live with her grandparents who show her what love and family truly are. Lina, her mom is a single mom with a successful career, but with no time for her daughter. Sadly, she much prefers her work to parenting and her daughter absolutely knows it. It is no surprise that their relationship is superficial and glacial. It’s a combo book. Romantic suspense, some crazy thriller moments in there for good measure and you’ve got a really good read. Adrian is successful professionally in her own right, but pretty closed off emotionally and doesn’t let anyone piece the armor she wears all of the time around her heart. It is is only when a death in the family occurs that she goes home to the only place she felt loved and cared for, her grandparents farm in Maryland. It is there she reconnects with old friends and realizes there is more to life than being focused solely on business success and opens her heart. Its a nice read from a reliable author who never fails to give us a love filled happily ever after.

This book was so amazing! I adored all of the characters so much. Adrian was such a great character. I loved seeing her grow and explore as her own person. I loved her relationships with all of the characters. Adrian has such a heart-wrenching story and so does Raylan. I loved reading their stories so much. They also had so much respect for each other. I am always so impressed with Nora Roberts' writing. She is so talented and I love almost everything I read from her!

This is a story of a mother and daughter. The mom had an affair in college with her professor and gets pregnant. He tried to make her life the baby but thankfully he failed.
This is the story of their lives and the horrible things that happen to them.
I couldn't put this book down. The re excitement at the end made my heart beat so fast.

We grow up with Adrian, learning about her Mom’s Yoga Baby Franchise and spending time with her beloved grandparents in Traveler’s Creek, Maryland, where she makes her first friend, Maya Wells and crushes on Maya’s older brother Raylan.

Back in New York she attends private school, and during her senior year she befriends the kids who sit at the geek table in the lunchroom. Teesha Kirk, Hector Sung, and Loren Moorhead help her create her own yoga videos and together they launch a business. After her videos go live, she receives a poem talking about her death. Her mom and their manager Harry assure her it’s all a part of the business, but they share it with the FBI. Each year around Valentine’s Day she receives another poem, but life goes on.

We follow Adrian, her friends, mom and first crush as they marry, navigate their businesses, lose loved ones and make connections. Adrian moves back to Traveler’s Creek after her Nonna dies, and her friends follow. The tale focuses on Adrian and the life she is building with chapters thrown in from the perspective of the poem writer, who we learn is killing women across the country.

We also get chapters from a private investigation Lina hires when Adrian receives poems more frequently. The story has this small-town charm with a slow burning romance and all the while the suspense is building we learn more about who the poet is as the danger escalates.

You cannot help but like Adrian from her moral compass to her love of family and willingness to help advance others. Raylan is a comic-book geek, and his story will tug at your heartstrings. It delighted me to see the relationship develop. The dogs, kids, and their friends all added to the story from mother-daughter relationships to girls vs boys.

Roberts allowed the reader to connect with the characters and feel a part of their lives. The suspense built slowly and in the background, but each change of perspective brought us details and moved the threat closer to them.

Fans of small-town romance stories, mysteries and suspense will find Legacy checks all the boxes. While some of the elements felt familiar, I found myself invested and eager for a happily ever after.
