Like other books in this series, it is a fun little introduction to inspiring people. Definitely a great way to introduce kids to biographies and a nice read for adults too. I would recommend all the books in this series.

An absolute joy of a book, precisely what we've come to expect from the Little People, BIG DREAMS series and the wonderful author, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara ♥. The pages are filled with bright colors, as dynamic and flamboyant as the Elton John the world loves. It's cleverly written and fun, enjoyable for all ages honestly! Elton John was the absolutely perfect choice for the 50th book in the series and I look forward to the next 50 books as well!

I think that Elton John was a great choice for the 50th book in the series. Elton John is such a music icon for every age. I remember listening to Elton John as a child and loving the upbeat personality. Children should learn about his journey. He is a great addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series.

Elton John and Ryan White's unlikely friendship made Elton a reformed person. Ryan was a huge inspiration for him to turn his back on his personal struggles and be a better person. This book made me searched more about Elton John and his friendship with Ryan White, and it's amazing that Elton is sober for over 3 decades already! He quit his alcohol and drug addiction, and he even went to rehab right after Ryan's funeral in 1990.

Never knew that the music legend had these past struggles during the peak of his career, and thankfully he was saved by his friend from those addictions. Of course, this was not mentioned in this book because it is for younger readers. But hopefully, if those kids will get curious more about Elton John's life story and tried to search further, they will be inspired that even a famous celebrity encounters life crisis also but was able to stand up again from those ordeals.

“This is the story of a little boy from the London suburbs, who once sat at the piano and started playing a waltz by ear. His name was Reggie, and from that day on, whenever his parents argued, music became his refuge.”

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
Cute, snub-nosed Reggie, tuning out his parents and enjoying his music instead

Reggie wouldn’t be the first, nor the last, little fellow to hide in another world from family troubles. His love was music. He won a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music and discovered music brought people together. He began singing with a band and entered a competition, but his music and lyrics didn’t do very well.

BUT, this is where he met Bernie Taupin, who couldn’t write music but gave Elton a stack of lyrics to write melodies for, and the rest, as they say, is history. Boy is it ever! The two of them have been putting out hits for a lifetime or two.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration of Elton and Bernie writing songs, with the caption:
“Reggie wasn’t the best at writing lyrics, and Bernie didn’t know how to write melodies. But by working together, all they needed was 15 minutes to make the most beautiful songs.”

Fifteen minutes! Now Reggie was ready to make a solo album but needed a catchier name, so he borrowed names from a couple of his bandmates: Elton John. As his fame grew, his outfits and his glasses became flashier.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration of Elton as Captain Fantastic with the caption:
“He had thousands of spectacular glasses and the most amazing wardrobe a drag queen would long for.”

Loved by millions, he was lonely when he went home after the show.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration in only grey tones, with the caption:
Elton, depressed and alone in the dark

He happened to meet a young boy in America named Ryan, who was in hospital. There are some details about this in the text biography at the end of the book. Ryan was dying of AIDS from blood transfusions. After he died, Elton decided to live a better life to honour his memory.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
“Elton and Ryan, chatting outside the hospital”

He changed his ways, met and married David, was knighted by the Queen, and created a wonderful AIDS foundation. He and David have two kids, but he still remembers shy little Reggie.

This is a particularly good addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series. Perhaps it’s because Elton John is so colourful that his life lends itself well to the bright artwork that will appeal to children. I also think it's because this is one where the drawings look like the person. Illustrator Sophie Beer seems to have captured him better than some artists have managed with other subjects.

I've always enjoyed Elton John's music but knew nothing about the Ryan White story. You can see more about that on this website, along with a list of his albums in order of popularity.

Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto’s Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the preview copy. This is one I'd like to see in libraries everywhere. He's still famous enough that even little kids will hear his music now.

'Elton John' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Sophie Beer is the 50th volume in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series.

As a child, Elton John was a prodigy on the piano. This got him a scholarship study classical music, and while Elton was there, he liked writing rock and roll music. He learned he wasn't as good at the lyrics, but found a partner who was.

I liked this bright, colorful biography of Elton John. This is such a fun series, and the artist really did a great job with the illustrations. There are lots of fun details in the art.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

I love the Little People Big Dreams series and Elton John is another fantastic installment. This book is a child friendly, short biography that touches on Elton John's childhood, when he was known as Reginald, and some of the high points of his life. He was a bit of a nerdy kid who didn't fit in and used music to hide his shyness. When he met Bernie Taupin, a remarkable writer of lyrics, the two joined forces to give the world some of the most memorable music of the last five decades. I still sing those songs that I grew up with. Throughout his life, even with the success he achieved, Elton often felt lonely. When he eventually finds his true love, he is able to create the family that he had always wanted. The illustrations in this book are some of the best in this series. Elton is depicted as the showman that is is. These books are so inspirational for children and encourage them to not only pursue their dreams but to also never give up on them. This series is one of the best children's biographies I have seen and I definitely recommend them.

Good book, I consider this book if for people fans of Elton John and people who don't know about the artist, the edition is amazing and I enjoyed reading this book; a book that you can give to your or your friends, that can give them a good time

Another charming book in the Little People, Big Dreams series. The illustrations are on point, astutely capturing the likeness of Elton John and some of his most iconic outfits and accessories. For such a short volume, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara again does a great job of choosing pivotal events in John's life and career, presenting them in a way that progresses nicely and offering a picture of the artist's life that is accessible to the target audience.

Opinions: “Elton John” is a tender, enthralling story for young children to read with their parents. The story is appropriate and the pages are illustrated beautifully! This is definitely one to have on your shelf. Although simple and transparent, themes about perseverance and self-care are abundant and accessible to young readers. In short, “Elton John” is an adorable bedtime story that will stay with children for a long time.

My Favourite Thing: I love that young, and I mean young, children are being exposed to celebrities like Elton John. This will inspire a love for music among other things, like an eye for fashion! It also provides a foundation and understanding for our culture which fantasy and fiction wouldn’t provide. I strongly recommend “Elton John” to parents with small toddlers!

My Least Favourite Thing: On the other hand, and although I understand the inappropriate elements of Elton John’s life must be suppressed for the age level of the readers, I feel like glazing over his long history belittles his accomplishments and fails to teach readers about the more dangerous obstacles life can throw at you. If an author can’t explain in a simple, careful way why drugs, fame, relationships, and money can impact a person negatively, why share Elton John’s story at all?

Little People, BIG DREAMS is such an amazing series. I cannot praise it enough. It is a bestselling series of books and educational games that explore the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream. Elton John is the 50th book in the series. He is an iconic entertainer: songwriter, singer, piano player, and performer extraordinaire that is revered all over the world. He is famous for his stunning flamboyant costumes and fancy glasses that his fans adore.

Elton began playing his grandmother's piano in Harrow, London. He had the ability to pick out tunes by ear and because of his innate talent ended up at the Royal Academy. He answered an ad in a newspaper which lead to a meeting with a lyric-writing friend name Bernie Taupin. Together they created music-magic. His fabulous music got the whole world's attention and Elton, with his amazing concerts and empathic loving heart, was a standout amongst his peers.

The illusrations are vibrant, colourful and quirky. They are a perfect tribute to Elton's music and story. The author has included a biographical timeline with photos and a deeper profile of Elton's life. I highly, highly recommend this book and the entire series.

Once again the Little People, Big Dreams series has delivered. I love these books! Thank you for reminding me of Elton's birth name, and for teaching me the reason why Elton started playing the piano.

Thank you NetGalley for the DRC.

This series never runs out of diverse, colourful real-life stories to tell, does it? (big chef's kiss emoji)

Ahhh, Elton John. He is a living legend who has made music SO much cooler. Whether you've listened to his music before or have seen Rocketman, he's a super cool dude.

So, OF COURSE, I had to pick up this book. On top of it being from one of my fave children's picture books series that feature the best non-fiction content I've seen in a long time!

Elton John: Musician, Fashion Icon, real name is Reggie, best friend named Bernie, cool glasses, and overall cool guy. He's illustrated to be the sweetest, little nerd and he's just so cute. He's playing piano, auditioning, and learning his craft. This guy's story is told perfectly with the colourful artwork and beautiful illustrations. Honestly, these illustrations are WAY better than the previous instalments in this series. SO MUCH BETTER. SO COLOURFUL. I LIKE IT. ALL CAPS. STRESS THESE SENTENCES PLEASE.

Overall, this book is a must read from me!

Five out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Elton is the 50th book in the fantastic Little People, Big Dreams series (I know, I can't believe they've reached 50 either, bravo @quartokids!), and although we've only dipped a toe in so far we've loved reading about so many iconic people.

This is Elton's story, musical genius, LGBTQ+ icon, father, and husband, who has created a catalogue of incredible songs. As you'll know if you've read about Elton before or seen last year's brilliant biopic Rocketman, Elton's life hasn't been easy. He had, at times, a difficult childhood and faced mental health challenges during the peak of his career and Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara's retelling of Elton's life doesn't gloss over that which I love. It shows how everyone is human, even those who seem to have it all, and demonstrates how by focusing on his family and looking after himself Elton found true happiness. It's a lovely message to share with children, and although this is one for older kids (around 6+ I'd say) M and I have definitely enjoyed dancing round the kitchen to Elton's music!

I've also got to mention the glorious illustrations by @sophiebeerdraws and the rainbow of colours she uses which bring Elton's iconic costumes, songs and glasses to life. Get me some platform boots & specs, I'm ready to boogie!!

Do you know that Elton John is not his real name? Well if you don't, go read this book. As usual, the series is a compact biography for kids, so of course suitable for adults too! And Elton was not born genius, though he IS special, like any of us. So how does he become a super star with incredible talents?
