I love these “second wind” type books where the protagonist has seemingly retired but finds themselves in the midst of a life far more exciting than they ever experienced during the height of their original career. This is a great example of this type of book and the author does a terrific job making it both credible and engaging.

This is the start of what's going to be an enjoyable new series. I loved that the protagonists are older and I just really liked the storyline. This is a light, easy to read mystery.

Kate Atherton and her husband Jack, have retired to Wheaton Cove. Kate retired from her job in Washington (that she can’t discuss) while her husband is retired military. Things seemed peaceful until her friend’s mural, that was painted from a photograph of the area, was vandalized. Why was the mural the only art work that was destroyed? When an artist is murdered, Kate wonders if his murder is connected to the mural. A sheriff, who is incompetent, makes Kate’s decision to interfere all the more necessary…after all, she is an expert at solving puzzles. When Kate requests assistance from a former colleague, the destruction of the mural may have led authorities to hidden crimes in this small town. An intriguing and complicated mystery. The author’s writing style is able to combine the seriousness of the subject with humor and light hearted dialog among the characters. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
