Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary audiobook of Blackburn by Brynne Asher, read by Virginia Rose and Aaron Shedlock. My opinions are my own, and no one has influence my unbiased review.

Blackburn is a fast-paced audiobook that grabbed me form the beginning and kept me listening until the last word. The suspenseful scenes are exciting, and the characters are compelling. This is a great romantic suspense romance that had me biting my nails.

Virginia Rose has an amazing voice and brings Lillian Burke’s character to life. She shows the heroine’s lovely southern accent perfectly, and she gives an incredible performance with matching her voice to how I imagined the hero would sound.

Aaron Shedlock is one of the best male narrators I’ve listening to recently. His tone for Lillian is so spot on, I’ve didn’t realize I was listening to the male narrator. I will definitely look for other audiobooks read by him!

The romance between Lillian and Gabe burns hot from the start. There is no doubt the lust is ready to combust, and when it does, it happens in a most delightful way. I thoroughly enjoyed the way their lust grows into love, and Ms. Asher solidifies their love story by including a satisfying epilogue showing them four years in the future.

If you enjoy romantic suspense novels with great characters, steamy love scenes ready by two amazing narrators, then you will love Blackburn as much as I did. This is a novel that can be enjoyed whether you read it or listen to the audiobook. This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by Ms. Asher, and it will not be the last. Happy reading and listening!

Blackburn by Brynne Asher is a very short novel, however, I really enjoyed it. I liked the character growth and felt the storyline was interesting. It was a typical storyline for this genre of book, but that didn't matter, I still found the book enjoyable. I would highly recommend if you enjoy romance.

Let me premise this review by saying I am not typically a fan of contemporary romances but this book reminded me of the Harlequin series from the 90’s. It was was fondly reminescent of a time when men were macho and women were delicate but strong. I’m also glad to say this book incorporated modern feminist values were the princess doesn’t need a prince to save her but it sure is nice to have him along for the ride. I’m not gonna lie and say I like contemporary romances now but this book was a pleasant break from my normal genre and it was read in a pleasing voice if you, like me, prefer the audiobook version. Great adventure wrapped in a classic romance!

4 Star Review of Blackburn (Special Forces: Operation Alphaa) by Brynne Asher

AUDIO REVIEW:
Brynne Asher is a new author although I am familiar with the narrators Virginia Rose and Aaron Shedlock. I was intrigued when I read the blurb for Blackburn and was fully invested in this story from the first to the last chapter.
Lillian Burkette and Gabriel (Gabe) Blackburn were great characters. The story was strong, particularly the first half that was based in the Nicaraguan jungle, the danger was real and there were times that I wasn’t sure that they would get out of the trouble that had found them.
Lillian and Gabe really suited one another, despite their differences and I was interested to see if the relationship formed in the jungle would survive being back in the business world.
Although this was my first book by Ms.Asher, it will not be my last.

I experienced a bit of deja vu as I started listening to the audiobook; I was scratching my head for a few chapters thinking it all seemed familiar before it finally dawned on me that I'd read this one before, thus making sense of my confusion.

I have an unhealthy fixation with affairs with the boss stories and I love a former soldier turned alpha as well so this was right up my street.

More often than not, the alpha has to flex his alpha muscles is some lame way but in this, there's some real action at the start that felt pretty vivid and authentic and set up their story nicely.

There's next to no romantic angst and it does settle into a fairly low drama action once they've both extricated themselves from the situation they'd got into and the chemistry and the smut is scorchio, no complaints here. While the pace did kind of peter out towards the end, it was an absorbing, undemanding and romantic listen.

Complete story, available on ku. Recommended.

I don't know how I have missed this series. Blackburn is an action packed romantic suspense. It can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed the action and the romance. I will read this author again. The narrator did a great job. Thanks Spectrum Audio and NetGalley for the audio ARC of this title.

With strong character voices, entertaining narrators, and a fun plot, "Blackburn" offers the perfect quick-fix romantic escapism.

From the very first chapter, we're introduced to two main characters, Gabe and Lillian, who have distinctive voices and form an immediate impression. It's once the action starts though, throwing a seemingly ordinary office romance trope out of the window, that the narrative picks up speed and takes the characters down an unexpected path.

I love being surprised by a storyline, and "Blackburn" did that perfectly by breaking away from typical trope conventions and creating a story, that while short, still packed a punch. While I have no doubt I would have enjoyed this book in paperback or ebook format, the great delivery provided by the audio narrators really brought life and added personality into the plot.

Offering a good balance of wit, chemistry, action, and heat, Brynne Asher has created an enjoyable story.

Firstly, my thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook .in return for my honest review. This is a novella length story, so only two and a half hours for the audio.

I really enjoyed this steamy little suspense/romance and the narrators did an excellent job acting the parts. The story was also well written and interesting and this is the first book I have read/listened to by this author, so I'll check out her other books for sure. Our H/h are attacked by armed bandits whilst travelling though Nicaragua on business, so just as well Gabe is an ex army ranger! He's secretly been attracted to Lillian for months (he's the head of the company she works for), so will the terror of their ordeal allow him to finally tell her? Excellent epilogue that made me smile. 3.5 stars.

This was my first time trying an audiobook, and to be honest, this was NOT a success.

I don't know if it was the weird ass voices ; the womans voice just sounded all kinds of wrong to me, too high and shrill and just didn't fit with this smart and happy character typoe that was being described.... or maybe it was the fact that the male narrator would switch to imitate the woman and the woman would switch to immitate the man... i mean, you guys could have acted this out properly no?? The woman only does the woman and the male answers and vice versa. Like in a movie? Why on earth would i want a man immitating a womans voice... yup.. cringe worthy.

The story was pretty straight forward and, well, boring and the happy ending was just going ooooon and ooooon. I would have cut this book short a hell of a lot sooner.

I think the only thing that salvaged this for me was that it made me smirk a couple of times - so, not everything was a loos... i guess...

This was entertaining. It drew my attention from the very beginning and didn’t let go. I though the narrators did a good job as well

Thank you to NetGalley for making this audio book, Blackburn by Brynne Asher, available to me. I do not normally read this genre of book so let's call this my first exposure to romance novels. Brynne Asher delivered a well-written story narrated alternately between the two main characters. I liked this approach which allowed the raw emotions of each player be expressed individually. I was a little disappointed with the lack of back story of each character which I feel would have brought me closer to them and make the book that much richer. All in all an enjoyable quick romantic escape for those lonely evenings!

This is my first title by this author, but not the last. Office romance gone wild both literally and figuratively. Lillian, a smart, determined businesswoman loves her job, except for one thing. She winds up on a business trip with that “one thing” otherwise known as Gabe, her bosses boss. She has no idea why he cannot stand her and he acts as if he hates her as a way to hide is magnetic attraction to her. They get kidnapped on the way back from their meeting and so begins their fun escape to their own happily ever after. A terrific fun listen.

It was a nice book but it felt stretched and the ending and story were almost too easy to guess, there was not something new to keep me interested. It was a good one time read.

Brynne Asher took the "love in the office" trope and created something special.

Gabriel Blackburn is Lillian Burkette's boss's boss, and he seems to hate her. Despite everything she does to win him over, Gabriel is adamant to ignore her. Until a working trip goes wrong and suddenly he can't ignore her anymore.

Setting in Nicaragua the book begins when Lillian and Gabriel's car is ambushed, and they are forced to hide in the forest. Unlike many other office romances, this one doesn't take place in the office but in a forest. The uniqueness of the plot is one of the things I liked about this book.
Unfortunately, the book didn't live up to my expectations.
Although there was definitely chemistry between Gabe and Lillian, in my opinion, there wasn't much romance. The book is written from Lillian's and Gabriel's POV, but whereas Gabriel showed us what was happening, Lillian mostly told us. Because of that, I didn't understand why their love for one another wasn't just an attraction.

With that being said, this novella was unique and steamy, and although it had some faults, I still liked it.

This could have been a really good book if it hadn't been so short. I feel like the author skipped a lot of the build up, the struggle and romance and just gave us a synopsis of what the book could have been. The narrators were fine and engaged me as much as they could have in the short time span. I know a lot of people loved this book but there was just nothing to it for me. I guess I don't like to be told things I want to experience them. I wanted to see how horrible and nasty Lillian's family truly was, I wanted to experience more of the workplace drama that comes when a boss and a subordinate start a relationship. So for me it was good but I wish it had been more.

This was my first Brynne Asher's book, and won't be my last. Gabriel (Gab) and Lillian's story is an amazing Romantic Suspense. Lillian is smart, strong, and independent. Gab is handsome, alpha, bossy, and protective. They share a sizzling chemistry. This short story is entertaining, fast-paced, and filled with action, and adventure. Virginia Rose and Aaron Shedlock are on my list of favorite narrators. They did an outstanding job with the narration, and I love their voices together. This is a great team author/narrator. I highly recommend it. Looking forward for more books written by this author. #NetGalley #ALC

This is a pleasant romance with lots of suspense and erotic scenes. It is fast-paced and with any interesting story traveling us into Latin America. I've listened to the audiobook and I found the narrators lovely and pleasant to listen to. I have really enjoyed this story.

There was a lot packed into this short book!! It literally started with a bang and didn't let up. I enjoyed Brynne Asher's writing style and enjoyed Gabe and Lillian's chemistry. They were a perfect matchup of grumpy alpha male and sassy and determined female. The story flowed well and had a clever plot. I look forward to reading more by Ms. Asher.

I listened to the audio version of Blackburn and found the narration to be quite good.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC of the audiobook. I voluntarily chose to provide a review.
