This was perhaps a poor book to read when I was seriously I’ll during a pandemic and had just lost both my mother in law and father in law. It took a long time to get back to when grief and worry were not quite as overwhelming but it was an informative, well written book.

Intriguing, interesting, and captivating. Not an easy read - the emotions ran rampant for me, and also the 'chill' of it, because yeah, death is a spooky thing and this is a world we'll all go through but which we don't know much about personally. These stories resonate, they stick and they stay with you... Definitely an amazing read that will make you reflect and think and ponder all those things we don't know, through the window that opens on this unknown world for us here

As a nurse who feels a calling to Hospice, I jumped at the chance to read and review "When We Die, Extraordinary Experiences at Life's End" by Kenneth J. Doka in an attempt to better understand the process of dying and the toll on those left behind. I understand the difficulty that families experience as a loved one transitions and hope to help bring comfort to those who remain. I found that reading about the experiences of others helped me gain some much needed insight and provided with me with another level of understanding. Kenneth Doka easily proves himself to be an authority on issues involving death, dying, and grief and has a plethora of work to his credit in this area. By sharing the experiences and advice of people that have lived through some extraordinary phenomenon, the reader is better able to understand and work through the grief they may be left with. This book is able to help the reader navigate through one of life's hardest journeys.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

What an interesting topic for a book, right? Don't we all wonder and think about what happens when we die? I know I've thought about it quite a bit.
This book is informative. It educates us a bit, but also gives real stories / experiences on the matter.
Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Dr. Kenneth Doka is no stranger to death. Initially planning for a career for the imprisoned, his work took a detour and he found himself working on cases of grief and bereavement for a hospital. With practice as a counselor and minister, he came face to face with the process of dying and how human being view and respond to it. The new book When We Die is a beautifully written text with an in-depth look at death coincidences, sudden lucidity at the time, of death, belief in reincarnation, and afterlife communication.

When We Die is full of not only personal stories, but those of Dr. Doka's colleagues, fellow doctors, and patients. This book is designed to be a help to those who come into contact with these phenomena, but it's so well written it becomes a joy to read for those who are fascinated by death or part of the Death Positive movement. Let's be real; at some point in time we are all going to be up close and personal with death.

When We Die is now available from Llewellyn Publishing.
