To be honest, there is nothing remarkable about this book. While I love this trope and enjoyed the plot overall, the writing left much to be desired. Most of the time it felt like I was reading either a first draft or a very poorly edited version of a story.

urgh... this was sadly so boring... I did not like any of the characters at all. Their chemistry and insta-love felt forced and boring.

Sweet as pie By Brisa Starr

A very humorous romcom . A light hearted easy read following the trials of the romance between Aspen and Ryker. Follow the journey they take and see where they end up and all the characters along the way.

Sweet as Pie by Brisa Starr is the First book in the Spring Hills Series. This is the story of Aspen and Ryker. Ryker and Aspen knew each other when they were younger. Ryker had been holding a grunge against Aspen for what he felt she did to his family. But in their present day they meet again and sparks fly. Enjoyed.

A sweet romance involving striving for life's yearned for dreams and wishes for the future. The best laid plans and all that, sure don't run smoothly or to plan.

With a happy ever after ending in this romantic story of love, commitment, and everlasting love.

I liked this book a lot. It flowed well, read it quickly even though it's not a tiny book, liked the characters and the side characters were just as wonderful as the main ones... It was a good funny read with romance and other emotions.

Sweet as pie

Hmm
I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it, it was slightly far fetched for me. The quick flip from hate to love in like seconds was insane. I always want to like my male leads when reading a romance but I just didn’t like him. He annoyed me most of the time with his cliche lines. It was very bland for me I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy it but it needed something else going on. There was also a lot of repeat or recapping what had happened which I felt wasn’t needed.
It wasn’t all bad I absolutely loved Aspen, I loved that she was a strong independent woman and her whole personality and lover of cooking and such was what kept me reading the book. I wanted and needed to know what would happen with her. I also really liked that the back story of both Ryker and Aspen heavily showed on who they were now. I’m going to round this up to a 3 star because I feel like 2 isn’t enough but I’d say it’s more at 2.5 ☺️

Aspen was focused on a financially sound future. Ryker was a rich do nothing guy. Why she was interested in him is beyond me. The steamy bits were interesting but did nothing for the storyline. The book was just okay.

Bored billionaire? Check. Plucky working-class heroine in a small town who wants to run a B&B? Check. Irrationally overblown reactions to omissions and misunderstandings? Check. Lots of steamy sex scenes in between the drama? Check. Quirky supporting characters who mainly serve to advance the plot? Check. This book didn't really stand out from the many others who use these tropes. Yes, the leads have chemistry, which is hard to write and the author deserves props for, but I don't think I'll be returning back to it for a re-read.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

Three and a half rounded up to four stars.
Sweet as Pie tells the story of Aspen and Ryker. When they knew one another back in high school, they weren't the best of friends. Ryker picked on and teased Aspen. One day when she has had enough she tells him something that brings his whole life crashing around him. Now, years later, they meet again and while they might not like one another, they simply can't deny the huge attraction that they feel.
This was a nice romance and Aspen and Ryker worked well as a couple. Where it fell slightly short for me, was the way that they jumped from feeling to feeling. One minute they were working things out and the next at each other's throats again. There were a couple of times that the dialogue just didn't flow quite as well as it might. Slightly odd word choices, or the way that they repeated each other's names far more than seemed natural.
Overall this was a good read and I'd certainly give another book by this author a read in the future.

This was an EXcellent book, and Will most definetly read anything else she has written.

What I loved is that Ryker, even though he initially didn't like Aspen, moved mountains to show her that he loved her. Even though she was very independent and didnt want help, he bought popsters house to help her.

He never gave up on trying to prove to Asoen that she was the right woman for him. Definetly a 5-star read.

This is the third book I've read by Brisa Starr and I have to say - her characters are always colorful and likeable. Aspen's mom and Popster are hilarious, Aspen angsty, determined and a bit quirky and Ryker was positively swoonworthy - a bit pushy in trying to help and in pursuing Aspen, but so earnest. They had instant, scorching chemistry and I loved the ending. Definitely a must-read.

Ryker is a billionaire and doesn't let anyone forget it. He goes on about his assets and it gets a bit old after a time. Aspen loves baking and her ultimate dream is to open a bed and breakfast. All good. She wants to do it on her own as she isn't going to feel endebted to anyone. Especially men. She doesn't need a man. See, she doesn't want to repeat her mum's mistakes. Ryker is determined to win her over and marrying her after having hated her for so long, and before finding out that she wishes the same.

There is a lot of going back and forth which is fairly dizzying. Ryker is full of himself, not very endearing. Aspen is stubborn and too focused on reaching her goal. That on its own is an admirable quality, but she ignores everything else that makes life what it is. The romance is non existent. I suppose that the lust makes up for it. It's an easy read with missed potential.

This book was good but at the same time a little strange. It opens with Ryker coming back to the town he grew up in and the place and to the person who he blames for his parents’ divorce. He of course blames Aspen and not his mother. He hates Aspen and wants to destroy her. Yet he also likes eating her pie when he tries it at their dinner.
For the most part, I enjoyed the story once I got past the beginning where Ryker goes from hatred towards Aspen to saying that he was going to marry her. My only issue really with the story or maybe two issues were one the drastic switch from hatred to love and wanting to marry Aspen and his forgetting that he was a bully to her for years. Though the last part is what helped him see his wrongs as well, he really took the line of love and hate to a new degree.
Aspen for her part had her own issues in not wanting any help only wanting to do everything on her own without anyone’s help especially from a man who she feels like she would owe something to in the end. When I got past just a few of my own issues this was a good story with some good characters. Her grandfather and his father to name a few. Overall, not a bad story, worth the read.

Brisa Starr is a new to me author and this steamy, angsty enemies to lovers story hooked me from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. The writing was captivating and easy to read. The tension and chemistry between Ryker and Aspen was spot on and leapt off the page. It was H O T! I loved Ryker’s insistence to be with Aspen and her absolute refusal (even though there was a major attraction!) because she wanted to make it on her own.

Towards the middle / last third both Ryker and Aspen’s emotions were all over the board. They moved between love and hate from one sentence to the next and at times I felt like I was getting emotional whiplash.

Overall I really enjoyed this story. A great mix between sweet moments and HOT chemistry and steamy scenes that will have you fanning yourself! I’ll definitely be reading more from Brisa!

Thanks to NetGalley, I was able to read His Secret, which was my first experience reading Ms. Starr's work and I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly taken with her writing style. When Sweet as Pie became available, again through NetGalley, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and I was definitely not disappointed. I loved Aspen and Ryker's journey so much even though Ryker was a bit of a jerk in the beginning and Aspen frustrated the heck out of me at times, I loved how they worked through their problems. And Aspen's grandfather, Popster, is a hilarious and likeable character that really added to the whole storyline. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Starr's work. As stated, I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This was a short, easy read. I enjoyed the storyline but I did get frustrated by both Ryker and Aspen. Ryker goes from hating Aspen to saying they are going to get married within a day... talk about whiplash.

And Aspen is so set to do things her way that she won't take help from anyone it seems. There are better ways to doing things than denying help from people who love you.

So between those two aspects, they're was a lot of bouncing back and forth with their feelings. They are both unsure of life which can easily say their thoughts and feelings. They are a bit emotional unstable throughout this book.

But overall I enjoyed this book and I'm glad I got a chance to read it!
