I definitely enjoyed the flight or fight response of this book!
Neva us a cold blooded assassin basically trained just to follow and not to ask questions of any of the orders. When Neva is basically assigned to kill an older version of herself things change A LOT.
She sits down and talks with her target and that's the first sting of her training unraveling.
Michael is an agent in a top secret group and while he chases Neva he doesn't turn her in. There is a lot of cat and mouse kind of action between these two. Neva wants to take down the organization and wants Michael to help however, she doesn't feel like she can trust him.
I enjoyed that each chapter gave the reader a different perspective because they are told by different characters. I also enjoyed that there wasn't a whole lot stuffed into the book because it is going to be made into a series. I like how the author ended it and left the reader curious for what is going to happen next. I will look forward to the next installments! Definitely a great book! I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys crime and spy action types of novels!

An interesting and disturbing story about children turned into killers. This is the first book in a series and has introduced the characters well. A good read, recommended.

Fast paced, nail biting book of intense killers. This was a fun read and kept me intrigued. The characters were developed nicely and the storyline was full of suspense and I couldn't get enough. Samantha Lee Howe is one to watch, can't wait to read something else.

Thank you netgalley for this arc

Excellent a very good unusual story. There was an echo of Killing Eve around the main character Neva but it was original and enjoyable.

The idea of a rogue female assassin sounds familiar, and Neva does have echoes of Villanelle, groomed by a sinister mystery criminal organisation from an early age, now rebelling against her employers and hunted. This is fast-paced and full of action. Michael, working in MI5 in a covert department, is in pursuit, but he is drawn to Neva and seems to trust her despite her profession.

This is escapist reading full of unparalleled coincidence and vibrant characters. The killings and violence are numerous, but descriptions are not gratuitously graphic. This promises to be an entertaining series.

I received a copy of this book from One More Chapter via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

What a fast paced novel. Neva the female assasin sets a standard in her ability to 'retire' people. That's a retirement scheme I wouldn't like to pay in to. When Michael the MI5 operative comes to her assistance, there's a spark of electricity which flashes between them. Michael and Neva getting to know each other was the best part of the book. The Network she worked for became ridiculously entrenched in every echelon of life. There was no explanation of what it really stood for, how it was financed and by whom. It was all about the training programme, taking seven young children, drugging and brainwashing them over a decade then sending them out as would be assasins. Then a few years later doing it all again. Beech, the man at the head of this organisation seemed more obsessed with his protégés than running the corporation. So, for me the first two thirds of this novel was the best. However, I believe there are more books in the pipeline so maybe we'll find out who really controls the Network. It's a three star score from me, basically representing the first two thirds which was the best.

Wow what a read , totally drawn in and read in 2 sittings . Fast , intense and compelling watching MI5 agent Micheal and Assassin Neva characters develop. Did not want to put this one down , so much so I’ve preordered the next 2 in the series. Secrets and lies are revealed keeping me enthralled.

A disturbing plot line which made me wonder about the darkest depths of society. Michael works undercover in a secret part of MI5. Neva is a killer who is paid to assassinate specific people, no questions asked. When their paths cross, it results in a thrilling and intricate plot, with a twist which I did not see coming. A very different storyline, which is different from any book I have previously read. A little slow in some places but still well worth a read!

What a brilliant story from beginning to end. I loved the g00d and the bad running through and was thoroughly invested in the story all the way. Really good characters and the descriptions were so real and absorbing. I hope I get to read the remainder of the series. I can't wait!

I enjoyed this book very much it was fast moving and an intriguing concept. The underworld of assassins is something most people do not even think about. Now that we have this insight via a novel, it will make for some interesting conversations.
Interesting (if deadly) characters.
Good book

Neva is an assassin who has become cold blooded. When she gets a glimpse into her possible future she turns rogue and her agency can't understand why. A tense plot with lots of twists. Fans of Killing Eve will love this book.

The House of Killers grips and enthrals from the moment you pick it up. This is a riveting and compulsive, tense police procedural with more than enough to sink your teeth into. Howe's characterisation is effortless and superb and the realistic suspense with a plethora of twists, turns and misdirection thrown in for good measure. The plotting is intelligent and precise, the dialogue true to life and the surprises plentiful and I found myself racing through the pages. It's a propulsive, fast paced affair with scintillating suspense and one I highly recommend. Roll on book two!

This is definitely one of those reads that deserves a TV series or Movie. The female lead character is strong, intriguing, courageous but brainwashed; the male lead is robust, exciting, and dedicated. Action-packed, gripping story and tons of nerve-wracking events! A solid, 4/5⭐️ for me!

Michael Kensington, an agent with M15, is recruited to a special task force called Archive, where he will be using his profiling skills to assist them in cold cases. Currently they are working on tracking something called "The Network" which they believe may have ties to both child abductions and serial executions. Serial killer Neva has grown up with The Network and is one of their hired killers. The problem is, now she has gone rogue. She wants out and she has the skills to stay hidden. Then one day Michael and Neva cross paths.......
This is like Killing Eve meets Mr & Mrs. Smith. I couldn't put it down. It had so much action going on, and every time I got to the end of the chapter I just had to read "just one more" to find out what was going to happen next. This is the first book in a new series and I can not wait for the next book. I can not not give this enough praise. I highly recommend it!

A most interesting story of a cold clinical female assassin being tracked by a dedicated M I5 officer determined to nail her. Two most engaging and interesting characters. Shades of Nikita that I was a fan of in my youth. Well now I am equally hooked by Neva. Neva is brain washed with others and controlled by a secret organisation to do their will and should any signs of free thinking appear, they are ihen terminated. How things evolve so that Neva becomes the hunted with a mission to bring down the organisation makes a most exciting and engaging story with more to come.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

Serial killer Neva has been conditioned not to ask queations of the myserious Network, to remain perfectly inourious and prennially cold-bloodied. She must simply execute the targets they tex her and live to bury the tale. But then she tasked with terminating a fellow assassin and glimpes her own future in her collegues fate.

Neva is a well-trained and cold-bloodied assassin. The synopsis made me think of Villanelle from Killing Eve. Neva has been conditioned to e an emotionless killer so did the retiring of a co-worker make her break free from the Network? The pace is slow to start with then slowly builds it's pace. Neva gets the attention of MI5's Michael Kensington who is following a trail of executions. The story is told alternately by Neva and Michael's perspectives. This is the first book in a triglogy.

I would like to thank #NetGalley, #HarperCollinsUK #OneMoreChapter and the author #SamanthaLeeHowe for my ARC of #TheHouseOfKillers in exchane for an honest review.

An enjoyable book. Neva is an assassin brainwashed from childhood to work for the Network. Michael is a MI6 agent trying to find missing children. Neva's brainwashing is beginning to wane when she meets Michael. Together they try to bring down the Network, a powerful organisation that manipulates governments from within and 'retires' any opposition. The novel moves at a good pace. As with all novel of this genre, you have to suspend credibility at times. Also, it differs very much from Killing Eve as Neva no longer wants to be an assassin. Overall a good read.
This is an honest review of a complementary ARC.

The House of Killers is…wow….just wow! As I sit here reflecting on the story, wow is the word that keeps popping into my head, especially when I try to think of non-spoiler ways to describe my reading experience.

What I Loved

The blurb describes the story as Killing Eve meets Jason Bourne and, though I have not read Killing Eve, I agree with the Jason Bourne comparison. Neva is like the female version of Bourne, and her story blasts off the page like a runaway train with nothing to stop it or even slow it down. The Network trained Neva and conditioned her to be an assassin until a fateful job of retiring a coworker causes her to break free from her conditioning and find her authentic self that she had long been conditioned to suppress. This revelation is the very moment the metaphorical train takes off from the station, and it is still out there twisting and turning as it picks up speed.

I love the language of the narration. Direct and engaging language held me captivated as I alternately found myself in Neva and MI5 agent, Michael Kensington's heads, plus a few chapters told from support characters points of view. Usually, I would find so many narrators confusing and long for a story told in 3rd person, but Howe makes it work beautifully and uses it to keep me on my toes as I jump from car to car in this runaway train. The only issue I had with the narration is that the voices all sound the same. The plot indirectly justifies this, but I'm now entering the realm of spoilers, so I will leave it at that.

As Neva reconnects with herself, her character begins to blossom and develop very slowly and organically, like waking up from a long and deep sleep. I look forward to seeing further development in future novels as Neva's story continues. Her layers have only begun to emerge, and I am fascinated to learn more as she discovers who she is.

To Read or Not to Read

I've kept this review short and sweet to hopefully entice you without spoiling this story full of jaw-dropping revelations that never stop until the pages do. Any thriller lover will miss out if this book does not find a way into their hands. Like I said before… wow…just wow!

What a great ride of a read! I am so happy this is the first of a new series. Neva is my new favorite female assassin after Viillanelle in Killing Eve and I pictured Neva as her all the way through. Plenty of action, double crossing, villains and bodies. Can’t wait for the next one?

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
