4 stars - Great! Might re-read.

This is the first book I have read from the Wallflowers series, but I plan to read the first two immediately. This was a great story, with fantastic characters. I especially loved the four Wallflowers. I had no issues jumping into the series here, but it did make me want to go back to fill in the rest of the story. Romance fans should not miss this series! (Sex, TW: Sexual assault)

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you.

"Capturing the Earl" is a story about four young ladies that created the Wallflower of West Lane society. One of the young ladies not interested in marriage, Mercedes, falls for Lord Wesley, the latter who wishes to wed Mercedes's friends for her dowry, which includes lands that used to belong to his family.
I did not like the characters nor their dialogues or the dynamic of the book, so unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it.

The Wallflowers of West Lane are four school friends who have stuck together to help the first two of their group find and marry their true loves. Mercedes and Aurora are, for different reasons, uninterested in finding their own happily ever after. Lord Wesley Renshaw wants to marry Aurora for her property. He is honest about that from the beginning. Mercedes wants to protect her friend from another loveless marriage, and takes on the project of thwarting him.

I enjoyed this book as part of the series, particularly for the friendship among the women. As a standalone, it might be a little slow!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Enjoy all of A.S.Fenichel books. Appreciate that Net Galley makes her books available as it’s hard to find them at the public libraries where I get most of my books. Also., NetGalley prices books affordable.

Wesley and Mercy's story is a lighthearted tale of a man who is trying to figure out his own mind and heart. While his mind is telling him to take what he wants, rather she wants him as a husband or not, while his heart is beating for someone else. I enjoyed following Wesley's journey of self discovery. I only wish there was a bit more intrigue. Overall a good book though.

A fun third book in the Wallflowers of West Lane series, this book follows Mercedes' story as she falls - unintentionally - for Lord Wesley Renshaw. The only problem? He's intent on courting her best friend, who holds the land he needs to re-enstate his family holdings to their former glory.

This book is much more fun and lighthearted than the last book in the series, and I found Mercy and Wesley's story, while a reliable trope, to be a pleasant and enjoyable read. I look forward to Aurora's story.

Riding the high of Bridgerton, this book was perfect! I loved the band of girls that were like family and how they supported each other regardless. Mercy and Wesley’s story was so enjoyable and I couldn’t put this book down and was sad when it ended. It was way too short!! I loved the strength of Mercy character throughout the story. Knowing that this is the third book in the series, I am very inclined to go back and read the first two.

This is the third book in The Wallflowers of West Lane series. I did not read the first two before reading this one and I really wish I did... I think it was still good on it's own but I would have known the characters a bit more had I read this series in order.

Miss Mercedes Hawke is a little bit anxious about all the changes happening in her life. Two of her best friends have recently gotten married. Her only friend left Lady Aurora Radcliff swears she will never remarry. Mercy is totally on board with this. So when Wesley Renshaw, the Earl of Castlewick, started courting Aurora, Mercy tries to interfere. Wesley is intrigued by Mercy but needs to marry Lady Radcliff to get back part of his ancestral estate.

I enjoyed this story.. I liked the premise and I think the characters were alot of fun. I will be going back and reading the first two books because I love the wallflower friend group!

I am really enjoying this series. The Wallflowers feel like they are my old friends now at this stage. I want them all to be happy, especially Aurora.
I loved the initial meeting between Mercy and Wesley. I thought it was sweet and charming. The fact that he wanted to gain back his family estate by marrying Aurora despite his attraction to Mercy made their romance fun to watch. It was obvious to Mercy's aunt and her friends that he was smitten with Mercy and that his goal of marrying Aurora was not going to happen. This was a sweet romance and a lovely read. I look forward to the next book.

Mercedes Parsons is very protective of her friend, Lady Aurora Radcliff. Lady Aurora is widowed but her first marriage included severe physical abuse by her unfaithful husband, who is killed at a gaming parlor. She vows to never marry again. Wesley Renshaw, the Earl of Castlewick, wants to marry Aurora to get back the land his grandfather had to sell off to avoid debtor's prison. Mercedes steps in his way and tries to intercept him every time. But I was not a big fan of how he would kiss and seem to like Mercedes but in the same scene talk about how he was still going to marry Aurora. You can feel his love towards Mercedes but his feeling of family obligation to push Aurora to marry him. I love this author and this series, but this book was slow paced compared to previous books and while a good book, wasn't my favorite.

It's a historical romance, so obviously, Mercy and Wesley will get together, but I found the chemistry between them lacks a little. Since Wesley is determined to marry Aurora (Mercy's Friend), Mercy's love interest seems a bit weird. He wasn't using her, and he was confused by what his heart wanted, and his head told him... it was just weird. I didn't feel it.

Mercy is not of noble birth, and while the other "Wallflowers of West Lane" claim her as an equal, she is not treated as an equal. She's stuck in no man's land really. They don't treat her as a servant, but their families demand her to perform (she's musically gifted in basically everything) at the drop of a hat. So she's the entertainment.

This book was just a good book. I was just left wanting more. 3 stars.

The writing quality of this book was fine. The pacing was a little slow, without much at stake. It got a bit tiresome that Wesley was determined to marry Aurora, who didn't want him, despite the intense attraction between Wesley and Mercedes. His reason for wanting Aurora wasn't compelling, nor was it honorable. DNF AT 30%.

Thank you to Kensington Books for providing me this arc via Netgalley!
I had high hopes for this, especially since the cover was so pretty, but this didn't deliver. I was bored the whole time and couldn't care less about the characters. Overall 1.5 stars.

Mercedes and her friends are very protective of one another. So when her friend, Aurora, seems to have a new suitor, Mercedes volunteers to warn him away. The only problem is that the more time she spends with her friend's would be suitor, she find herself falling for him herself...

Wesley needs to right the wrongs that his family did and that includes getting back some of the family property. He needs to marry at some point, so when he learns that the property belongs to Aurora, he decides she would make a good enough wife for him. The only problem is that he can't get her friend, Mercedes off of his mind...

Is Wesley willing to give up the property to get a life with the woman he loves?

I adored Mercedes and Wesley's story!! I loved watching them together and seeing the attraction that they just couldn't fight. They were both headed in a different direction, but the world had other plans! Love this addition to the Wallflowers of West Lane series and I can't wait for Aurora's story!!

This series started on an incredible high and hooked me into going along for the ride. Which brings us here to book three.
A lot less action packed than the last, however it definitely didn’t lack in the heart and friendships that I’ve come to appreciate over the course.
These girls keep bringing in the perfect addition to their group in the men they end up with, and Wesley was no different. Another complimentary addition, another intriguing ride to the finish line.
I wanted a little more from Mercedes, and wanted to have less of a love hate relationship with Wesley.
All in all, I enjoyed the read.

Welcome back to The Wallflowers of West Lane. They met at school and took an oath to always be there for each other. Poppy and Faith have found the loves of their lives. Aurora will never remarry. To many scars. Mercedes Heath, to her friends she is Mercy, she does not come from wealth or peerage. At a ball, Wesley Renshaw, Earl of Castlewick, has asked her to dance. Thinking it was a joke, she finds a rhythm with him that she has never felt with anyone else. But an ice cold bucket of water was thrown on her by Aurora's mother. She has arranged for Aurora to be courted then married to The Earl of Castlewick. Throughout the book Wesley keeps saying he needs to marry Aurora to get his ancestral lands back, but he can't seem to stay away from Mercy. He has no idea to what lengths The Wallflowers will go to protect one of their own. In the end, Mercy knows she has found home and safety in Wesley arms. I love that he has set up a music room for her. When she is happy, he is happy.

This is my first time reading anything by A.S. Fenichel and I have mixed opinions. I liked the story overall and found it well written if not a bit slow in the middle. It is about the romance that starts building between musically gifted spinster Mercedes Parsons and Wesley Renshaw, the Earl of Castlewick. Wesley has spent his life rebuilding the lost fortunes of his family and he has one last property- but most important one, left to gain which is owned by Mercedes best friend, the widow Lady Aurora Radcliffe. He cannot afford to buy it back from her so he does what any man of his time would do- court said lady for her hand in marriage. Lady Aurora had a terrible first marriage and has no intentions of ever being under a mans hold ever again. Mercy is aware of that and with the other Wallflowers of West Lane want to keep Wesley away from her.

Mercy and Wesley met two months earlier at a ball where they danced twice and where she damaged her spectacles which Wesley replaced for her. She paid him back for them and has always used them- a fact he notices with pleasure. I liked how the romance developed between them. There was chemistry, compassion and a real desire to just be in each other’s company. They were both captivated from the first meeting, but he felt he could not pursue her because of his family obligations and she felt her position as an untitled miss with no land, dowry or titled family besides an aunt made her ineligible for an earl. She was heartbroken when he came to court her friend and spends most of the book denying her feelings, feeling inferior to the others but knowing she deserves better than to settle for someone who wants her only for her musical talents.
This is where I had some minor issues. Mercy spent so much time dithering that it annoyed a bit. Especially because she had friends who were constantly propping her up.

As for them, Aurora says she is not interested in remarrying, and while she is polite with Wesley and informs him of that decision, she never goes as far as to tell him “to sod off” which he claims to a friend in the novel he would have done, if she only said so.

Also, the ‘Wallflowers of West Lane’. Firstly, I can’t understand why they felt the need to give their group a name. I know, that’s a small irritation but I am tired of reading about a group of women who feel they need to define or justify their friendship with a title! It was cute and interesting ten years ago, but I find it irritable now, especially when they all go about referring to themselves as so! Then there’s their agenda- to keep unsavory men away. Or any man they do not wish to marry. Wesley may be honorable and everything nice, but the women’s ‘plans’ to keep him away were non-existent. All they did was stay together like a pack around Aurora. They as a group didn’t ‘do’ anything. They all just kept moving from theatres, to dinners to house parties. And it was obvious from the beginning that Mercy was attracted to him, so while they didn’t push her in his direction, they also didn’t help her away from him as it was causing Mercy no end of heartache. They also gave confliction advice. At times stressing that marriage should be only acceptable when love is involved and other times saying that one can find happiness by settling for security and companionship.

Wesley was a far more developed and likable character than Mercy. He knew he should focus on Aurora but always found himself more attuned towards Mercy. He was conflicted over his actions, appreciating everything about her not just her talents, trying to avoid her but wanting to be her friend as well, sending men her way, then finding himself jealous. I liked how he came to accept his feelings- not just about Mercy but the property as well.

There is a scene with his cousin Malcolm in the end which I was confused over. It felt unnecessary as he isn’t treated as a complete villain by the author. He claims to have been merely testing the woman he felt unworthy of his cousin, but what gentleman does that through assault!? That scene felt more preachy. Mercy’s reaction, from how she defended herself, her letter to Wesley, and her conversation with Malcolm all felt like the author telling us how a lady should react to any assault- I liked them. I just didn’t like the way it was all forced on the reader at the end of the book.

Besides this I liked the book. It did drag, but I guess that’s what the story called for. Wesley and Mercy’s time in the secret room, his honest letter to her were endearing moments and I wished there were more of them.

I love this series. The Wallflowers are an endearing group and I liked seeing how Mercy's story unfolded. Her younger years formulated her view of herself in society and throughout the book some in society fulfilled her expectations of them looking down on her. There was a dilemma Wesley was faced with and I was glad to see him get his act together though would have liked things done a little differently or sooner but then that is likely my romantic heart looking for a happily ever after. I loved how he would stand up for Mercy and wanted to see her shine and grow. You could see how the relationship would mature through the years - It's a satisfying read and good to see the other Wallflowers in the mix. Not as much intrigue but still an enjoyable read that helps move the series along. Looking forward to the next one!!
