This is my favorite kind of picture book. Lovely illustrations. A quirky little story that makes you chuckle. And a lesson to be learned in an easy way. Carol learns to find her own voice in this story and it's so lovely.

I was expecting something for a younger reader when I chose this title to read. That did not take away for the amazing illustrations and interesting story. My grandson was a bit young for this one, but still enjoyed the read. When he is older I am sure we will return to it more than once.

Finding your voice isn’t easy, but sometimes a pickle-toad can help. After years of wearing a bossy toad hat, a pigeon comes and scoops it away off of Carol’s head. At first it was hard to know what to say, but wearing a pickle-toad hat does the trick. Kids will love the mix of silliness with an important message in this story.

My student commented based on the title alone that this might be one of their favourite picture book read aloud of the year! Carol and the Pickle-Toad is a a wonderful book that my students thought was hilarious. The exaggerated humour added to the overall message of the story! The illustrations are beautiful, and the message of listening to your own voice came through loud and clear. A funny and touching story that I'll be adding into my classroom library rotation!

This was an adorably weird story about a young girl who finds her voice as she tries on different hats. I loved the illustrations and the city backdrop. The story was delightfully weird, and sure to be loved by those young and old.

What a fantastic book! 'Carol and the Pickle Toad' is beautifully unique and hilarious. Carol is a girl who has a bossy, rude, loud toad on her head. The toad dominates her life and Carol's personality gets smaller. But when the toad disappears, Carol begins to find her voice and try new things. I loved the moral of this story, that we should appreciate our own voices and not pay so much heed to the toad (negative voices-internal and external.) I loved that this book encourages children to try new things, speak for themselves, and be kind to others.

Thank you Tundra Books and NetGalley for providing this ARC.

This is a weird picture book of girl who wears a toad as a hat, and the toad tells her what to say and do.

And when she loses the toad, she replaces it with a pickle, who doesn't speak, but allows her to channel her voice by having it there.

And when she loses the pickle, she had to learn to speak on her own.

But, yeah, she kinda did that with the pickle, so I'm a little confused here, but that is the way the story goes.

it is all aboaut having self worth, and it is good that in the end, she gains it, but it is add way that we get there.

Cute pictures, strange story.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for allowing my kids and me to have an early opportunity to read and review Carol and the Pickle-Toad. We all loved everything about this story including the beautiful illustrations. The story follows Carol as she is trying to find her own voice while experiencing important moments in her community. After reading this, I had a great conversation with my kids about finding their own voice and how just like with Carol, sometimes it takes time. Outstanding book all the way around. I look forward to sharing with other's in the future.

A adorable and charming story about finding your own voice. This was such a beautifully illustrated story and the artwork was just delightful. I loved the story and the message of finding your own voice and speaking up. It was just a charming and adorable book that I would recommend for everyone, especially kids, as its an easy read, filled with so many eye catching images, and a sweet lesson.

Some dizzying logic (and it seems like the same problem is solved twice), but the illustrations are rich and immersive and the text pairs nicely with the story and images.
