Alex and Poppy are best friends. Every summer they meet and go on vacation together. Until something happened one summer which causes their friendship to fall out. Two years after, Poppy reaches out to Alex to finally fix everything.
I've learned my lessons when I read Beach Read last time. I ended up disappointed because I pushed myself to read it until the end. I started reading People We Meet on Vacation last year but I ended up putting it down. I'm glad I did. It worked out really good this time. I loved Poppy and Alex and their adventures. I loved their friendship and their chemistry. The flashbacks really helped a lot to get to know their background and how their relationship build-up over the years. I thought the friends-to-lovers trope and slow burn romance in this book are perfect. Overall, this was a fun and beautiful read.

For starters, basically everyone in book club loves to travel and adventure, so being able to travel vicariously through Poppy and Alex’s story was so much fun. We especially enjoyed seeing how in the early years of their travels, Poppy and Alex did things by the edge of their seat and with more spontaneity and it definitely seemed to make for more memories and random encounters with people (hence the title!!). It gave way to discussion on how the planned work trips just did not have that same feel and vibe to them because they were so structured and we much preferred the fun, unplanned ones!
Now as for Poppy and Alex— they were so sweet and cute! I personally adore the friends to lovers trope and these two were way too fun to follow along. While they were complete opposites, we loved how they were still able to create such an amazing friendship and liked seeing how they evolved over time both individually and with one another. One of the minor issues some had with this book was just the ending, specifically with how Alex handled things with Poppy. But hey, maybe it’s just a “guys can kinda suck sometimes” sorta thing? For starters, basically everyone in book club loves to travel and adventure, so being able to travel vicariously through Poppy and Alex’s story was so much fun. Emily Henry's books always mix the perfect amount of carefree romance with real life problems and issues. Just like Beach Read, People We Meet on Vacation is the perfect summer read without being devoid of substance.

This is it. This is the one. Emily Henry, we have finally clicked. I've always found her novels a little too literary and very good but I have to remind myself to finish them. Not this one. This one was UNGH. My chest felt too small to contain all the emotions.
Cleverly plotted, and I loved that this was such a growing story and a finding your place story as well as the most delicious, delectable romance.

Review based on pre-pub copy: Best read of the 2021 year by far!! I absolutely adored Emily Henry’s Beach Read last year but this raises the bar so much more. From the first pages I was sucked into this story of unlikely friendship and what potentially happened to divide them 2 years ago. Their personalities and personal histories are so flawlessly blended into the narrative that it seems to just organically ooze from the pages, as we learn about these characters. The way the chapters alternate storylines between the present day and all of Poppy and Alex’s past vacations beginning with the day they met and progressing to merge with the present day storyline is such a beautiful way to show readers truly who they are as characters, allow us to become invested in them and their future, and also torture us with end-of-chapter cliffhangers! I can’t say enough about this book. I’ve already read this and still can’t wait for release day so I can go buy my own personal hard copy!

I kind of envy my friend who told me to read this before Beach Read or I wouldn’t like it as much. I already read Beach Read, so I didn’t have that luxury, and she wasn’t wrong. Still a quality book and worth the hype, I just can’t help but compare. I will happily read anything Emily Henry writes though.

The character development of both Poppy and Alex was something I enjoyed, but this book is somewhat predictable and I found myself looking forward to the end, just so the book would be over.

I was very excited to finally make time for this one, even though I was way behind the hype. Beach Read was in my Top Ten list of 2020 so I had high hopes for People We Meet on Vacation. Poppy was such a fun main character and I was obsessed with her job as a travel writer. Alex was such a sweet love interest and I couldn't help but love him. I think my favorite thing about this book was the flashbacks to previous summers when Poppy and Alex traveled together and seeing how their friendship evolved. I don't always love friends to lovers but this one was done really well.
Consider me an Emily Henry fan! I can't wait to see what she writes next.

Emily Henry is so much fun to read! PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION gives the reader humor, heart, and honest characters. There is always something real about the people we meet in Henry's books. I loved every single moment spent reading this one.

I love a good friends to lovers trope, and going on vacations really sealed this one as a new favorite romance.

Love this book and this author! She creates great characters and sweeping romance that pulls me in every time.

Absolutely loved it! This book was everything I love about Emily Henry’s writing and more. It had comedy, it had snark, it had heat, it had tenderness, and it had a good message. I could not put it down and instantly fell in love with it. Honestly, from the first time I read her works I became an instant fan and will read all future books.

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry is a super fun summer read! I loved her last book Beach Read so I was very excited to read this one! It’s an updated take on the When Harry Met Sally type story (which is one of my all time favorite movies) with cute characters and witty banter!
Colorful Poppy and straight-laced Alex meet at college orientation and are complete opposites. They meet again when she gets a ride home with him at the end of their Freshman year. After realizing they do get along, they become traveling buddies and take a trip together each summer but they keep their relationship completely platonic, or maybe mostly platonic😘. Through the years each of them have other relationships but none of those pan out. Does their friendship get in he way of those other relationships? How do they really feel about each other? They take one last summer trip to figure it out!!
Definitely put this on your summer reading list!!

I absolutely love her books! This one is a top favorite of 2021! I have recommended it to all my friends as a fun romance read!

This was such a great book! I really enjoyed this. I liked the main characters Poppy and Alex. I loved how realistic they are. I can't wait to read her other books!

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry was yet another of my most anticipated reads for this summer, and I was super curious to finally read the book. I read Beach Read last summer, and I was really interested to see how this new book would compare.
There are so many things that I really enjoyed about this book! One thing was the characters. The book has so many interesting characters... including the two main characters, Poppy and Alex. I undeniably related more to Alex in his love of books and not being very spontaneous, but I think we all want to be a little like Poppy and her freedom to wander. I am such a homebody, and I can’t even imagine what that’s like. But it was fun to see it through Poppy’s eyes! Also, some of the people that they met on vacation were awesome!
Another thing that I like about the book was the storyline. It totally made me want to travel more, and, as I mentioned above, I am certainly more of a homebody. All of the places that Poppy and Alex visited throughout the book sounded interesting, and they were so well described, I could almost imagine being there as well. (I love it when that happens!)
I’m really glad that I chose to read this book in the summer, as it definitely felt like a summer read to me. Oh and I listened to the audiobook as well, and the narrator, Julia Whelan, did such a great job with the voices! Julia also narrates the audiobook for Beach Read, and has read a few others that I have checked out this year! It’s so fun to listen to a familiar voice.
Overall; People We Meet on Vacation was a fun summer read! I’m very glad that I had it on my TBR this season, and I absolutely can’t wait to get my hands on Emily’s next book, Book Lovers, which is currently set to release May 2022, also from Berkley! It sounds fantastic as well, so if it’s not already on your TBR, go ahead and add it now. *grin*
Happy Reading!

I absolutely adored this book! I think the romance between Alex & Poppy was adorable! The friends to lovers trope in this book was done so well & I would recommend it to any romance lovers out there.

Another amazing book from Emily Henry. I just loved this one so much & I can’t wait to read more from her!!

I absolutely loved this book. It is such a fun read! It is definitely a summer read but I read it in December and it was just as good! Poppy and Alex are so adorable. This is my second book by this author and I loved the first one so much this one did not disappoint. This author really knows how to write romance. I was captivated from beginning to end! I can’t wait to read her next book!

Alex and Poppy are best friends who go on vacation every year. Poppy is the chirpy heroine while Alex is closed-off. After a fallout two years ago, they decide to restart their tradition of vacations again. Many things go wrong, forcing them to acknowledge their feelings.
The way this book took too long to get to the point was too much. The main characters are in love and don’t tell that to each other for 12 years. I have already forgotten the reason they have a fall out, but I remember thinking that it was pretty stupid (if you remember the reason, please comment so that I don’t have this at the back of my mind the entire day).
When the feelings revelation finally happens, it feels anticlimactic and cliche. The back and forth in the timelines is a little confusing but you get the hang of it. But a lot of those past things feel unnecessary to the plot.
People have been talking about how this book rejuvenated the friends-to-lovers trope, but I thought it was a pretty standard take by the author. Don’t get me wrong, I kinda liked Beach Read but this book was disappointing.
