I expected this book to just be a series of questions and guides on selecting elements to turn any house into what could feel like a home, but it goes beyond that. Dutta-Choudhury is engaging in conversation with their reader to get them to stop and consider how they live life, what the impact of their dwelling is on the wider world, and yes what to consider when choosing lighting options. "House to Home" is great guide for those who are new homeowners and for those who have been doing the same thing for so long in their house that they did not even realize it was no longer serving them. Definitely add this to any library or personal collection if you want to turn the space you dwell in into one that you can truly feel fulfilled.

This guide is a great starting point for anyone planning to adapt their house to the needs of the family, or considering choosing a new home with a view to redesigning it to better suit their lifestyle. It is a short but very useful guide. There are six chapters starting with how to select a house with the potential to improve it to create your home, The following chapters include guidance on preparing your project, where to find inspiration, matching your design to your lifestyle, the importance of attention to detail and, finally, what to expect during the construction process. There are grid pages at the end of each chapter for notes, ideas and sketches. I enjoyed the conciseness of this guide. Thank you to Devi Dutta-Choudrey, Net Galley and Roost Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

House to Home was a nice short book that went into intricate detail about what new home-buyers or builders need to know. I am not in that position currently so I can't really apply the info but it was well-written and detailed.

HOUSE TO HOME is both the story of how the author reshaped her own home and a guide to how you can think like an architect while reshaping your home. She points out things most people overlook: for example, that accessibility is essential for any home, since most currently able-bodied people plan to get old, and most of us won’t be able to handle stairs with quite the same agility as we age.

Interstitial pages between chapters offer you a place to make notes and sketches, if you’ve bought a copy in print. (You mustn’t do that to a library copy, and good luck doing that to an e-book.)

Whether you’re planning to build or remodel a house, or you’re just curious what goes on behind the scenes on HGTV projects, HOUSE TO HOME will give you the insights you need.

This is a good basic overview of the homebuying and making-it-your-own process through renovations as opposed to decorating. It seemed a bit skewed to an upper middle class, urban aesthetic, but with strong practical tips for people who are taking this approach. Each chapter ends with a handy page or spread for taking notes or drawing design ideas.

This is a very interesting would work on home decor and or renovation products. Due to the pandemic a lot more people are paying attention to their homes I think it’s a perfect book for that.
