Fort Worth, Texas 1899

There is nothing worse than a crusader of the Temperance Movement, when it came to trying to destroy a business, and she was determined. Saloons and hard drink had killed too many people and she had finally found her calling, except now she had to face "him".

He had worked so hard to establish his business and he wasn't going to let this woman and her friends close him down. But darn if she wasn't beautiful!

As these two go head to head, there is no telling what will happen, but love has a way of righting all wrongs and the journey getting there is simply one they will have to take!

A new spin off to The Men of Legend Series, their children, is going to be fabulous if this first in the series is any indication!
I read this through NetGallery.

I really enjoyed Deacon and Grace's story! I just loved all the bantering between these two which finally lead to their HEA! They were so much fun to read about!!

I'm so glad that Broday decided to write stories about the next generation of Legends!! I can't wait to read them all!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I also purchased a copy as I love supporting favorite authors.

This author has a wonderful way with storytelling. I just get drawn into them right from the beginning. The old west of Broday's world just comes alive for me. I feel like I am right there in the middle of the story!

Grace Legend is the oldest daughter of Houston and Lara Legend (their story is The Heart of a Texas Cowboy). I am going to go back and re-read that entire series from start to finish! Deacon Brannock is a saloon owner. If Deacon didn't have bad luck, he wouldn't have any. Things just go from bad to worse. Now he has the "temperance" ladies marching in front of his saloon! The groups is led by Grace and boy do the sparks fly between them.

This book was filled with mystery and intrigue and so many different obstacles that make for an interest read but not overwhelming. I adored the story and look forward to more in this series.

Also the story is written in a dual POV format, as well as a few other characters. Getting that glimpse into the characters' thoughts really help me to connect with them.

The story is a little on the sexy side nothing over graphic or too numerous. That being said I would only highly recommend this to anyone over the age of 18. If younger, at the parent's discretion.

While I admired her zeal, I found Grace to be willful and spoilt. I liked Deacon a little more even with his poor self worth. While I found the romance somewhat lackluster, I did enjoy other aspects of this story such as the mystery of the missing boys and Grace’s newspaper articles. This was only an ok read for me.

I always enjoy Linda's books. Takes me back to the past and the struggles that they went thru. At the beginning I wasn't crazy about Grace i found her very opinionated but as the story went on she grew on and I did respect that she was a strong woman. Her perfect counterpart is Deacon, whom I loved from the beginning, he was a good man and did not put up with Grace, they went head to head and turns out they are what the other needs...

Always entranced by Linda Broday's novels. Her depiction of old west was very convincing and the story itself was always exciting.

Here's the story of Grace Legend, Houston's daughter from The Heart of a Texas Cowboy (Men of Legend #2). I always enjoy the story where I could relate with the previous characters. Even when at first Grace annoyed me with her antics, but coming from a goodhearted person, she did learn from her mistakes.

Her interaction with Deacon the saloon owner was also amusing and refreshing. In all, this is a good read and I enjoyed it so much as usual.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. This was just a wonderful book to read and it was just easy to lose yourself in the story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

This Western romance had several good elements to it. For one thing, it did not romanticize the time period. I like how honest the author was about the darker aspects of life.

At the beginning, I felt it was a bit bland and a little bit cheesy. But the romance and characters grew on me. Grace in particular is a great character who is independent and wants to change the world.

Much of the plot reminded me of Lawless by Nora Roberts. There were a lot of plot lines going. I appreciated this because it kept things interesting, but in some ways I almost thought there was too much going on. Nonetheless, the narrative tugged at my heart strings and I did want to keep reading to see how everything turned out. The ending chapters were exciting and sweet.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the free review copy. This review is my honest opinion.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing an arc for review!

I was a little disappointed when I read the preface and realized this new series would be set in a later time period than Broday's previous books (1899 I believe). However, right away Grace and Deacon's characters pulled me in.

There was a lot packed into this book, which had both positives and negatives.

Positives:

- Engaging plot. The story pulled me in right away and kept me reading.
- likeable secondary characters. I really hope future books include some of them and not just members of the Legend family.
- a truly good man as our love interest. Deacon is one of those characters you can't help but fall a little in love with yourself.
- it was obvious why our MCs feel in love with each other. There are too many books where is all about chemistry and I'm left wondering WHY they liked each other. This hasn't been an issues in any of Broday's books I've read, so kudos to her.

Negatives: (here's where the spoilers will come in)

-i found Grace a bit fickle asked confusing. She was so anti alcohol and the beginning and then seemed to give up without much of a fight. And honestly I found her annoying at the beginning because of it. (I loved her complaints about women not being able to own property though, or open bank accounts without a man, specifically her little brother!)
- I really liked the plotline with Izzy and the other street boys, but found the way it was solved a little out there. I had a few eyeroll moments.
- Going back to Izzy, I wasn't thrilled that they found Izzy's mother, I was hoping he would be adopted by Grace and Deacon. I also found it really unrealistic that his mother all of a sudden was willing to leave her abusive husband after letting him kick her 7 year old out on the street years before without leaving. I didn't trust her.
- The entire last 25% off three book just seemed a bit rushed.

I know that's a lot of negatives, but I really did enjoy this book. I just needed to get a few things off my shoulders, lol. I haven't read the Legend series yet and this new series stands well on its own. I wasn't confused at any point, so you absolutely can read this book as a stand alone.

All in all, an enjoyable read and I look forward to Ms Broday's next work!

This story was good, but so very long. The heroine moves from the ranch to the city with her younger brother. She becomes a journalist and a temperance group leader. She meets the hero when she is trying to close down his saloon. She keeps having interactions with the hero and when her temperance group destroys his saloon and runs out, she takes the blame and lands in jail. And her father told her not to do anything to despoil the family name.
This story was good overall, but was way too long with too many subplots that didn't add to the quality of the story, just added to the time to read it. If the additional characters and subplots had added to the story, it would be a different review. But all the subplots and the way the endings wrapped up seemed trite. Sometimes more isn't better and I can think of a third of the story that could have been omitted and it would have resulted in a better result. Edit after writing.
There were no spelling or grammatical errors. The scenery was descriptive and seemed appropriate for when the story took place. There were no overt modern mannerisms but the heroine acted like a lady in her 30's, not 22 year old who just moved out of her parents home. And what 22 year old was allowed to run around on her own at that time? Women still had to meet certain standards and this was even more stringent in small communities with one or two churches. I give this book 3 stars and recommend reading if you have a lot of time to kill.

A Cowboy of Legend by Linda Broday is the first in a new series and features Grace Legend as a young woman on a mission. She wants to shut all these saloons down and save woman from being hurt by men who have had too much to drink. She has managed to convince many of the women of Fort Worth to join her on her campaign and so they made signs and marched. While marching she ran into Deacon Brannock, one of the bar owners, she was after. She got to know him a little and he seemed like a nice man, no evil at all. She consulted with her friend, Carrie Nation, who advocated for violence and s o she and her ladies set out. Once in Brannock's saloon, the Three Deuces, they smashed up the place, destroying plenty of liquor. Grace was appalled. She did not participate, not did she run when the law came. The sheriff hauled her off to jail and put her in a cell that had a chair and a bed full of bugs. She had gone too far. When her brother arrived she asked him for pencil and paper. When he returned he also brought a clean blanket. By morning her father was there. He was not happy. He spoke to Brannock, replaced the destroyed liquor and more, and volunteered Grace to come and clean the saloon, scrubbing the floor on her hands and knees. Such began their stories: Grace and Brannock.

This is not a modern day cowboy story but a historic one. There is plenty going on here, past and present. It was a good plot with some very interesting characters including Brannock and Grace, but also Grace's parents and uncle; Izzy, a street boy; Jane, a fallen dove; Harry, the bartender with a past; a Will, a father figure to Brannock. I could go on and on. This is a complicated story with plenty of twists and turns and lots of characters. It is a good story with problems aplenty. There are also surprises, things I didn't see coming; some I did. I found this to be an extremely enjoyable book and look forward to the next one.

This is going to be a great series! I wasn’t sure about a next generation series, but decided it was worth a shot since the original is so good. I am so glad I did. This book moves so quickly you hate to put it down. I love Grace & Brannock. They are so equally feisty & caring, you can’t help but love them. I cannot wait for the next book!

I enjoyed this book. To start I found myself very intrigued by the storyline of this book. It created an interesting twist that I thought was fresh and entertaining. Grace and Deacon were quite likable and I thought they made a good couple. There are lots of secrets, drama, emotions, excitement and action to be had as the story unfolds. Probably my favorite thing about this book was that the author somehow managed to have me feeling like I needed to support both of these characters and their very much opposing wants. I could truly understand and feel for them and that made me fiercely invested in this duo.

Linda Broday is an author who is sneaky; she marks a book down to free and then hooks you so you not only have to buy the remainder of the series, but all of her other books too because they are so AMAZING. This book is actually about the niece of that first free book. It, like all her other books is AWESOME!

Deacon in a saloon owner, but he's different. He has a past that plays a huge part on how he lives his life; including having a heart of gold, protecting others who are weaker than him, and being a good, decent, honest man.

Grace is a woman who's best friend was killed by her husband. This has haunted Grace and made her determined to strive that no woman or child will ever die at the hands of a drunk man again.

When these two meet, it's fireworks and passion, and chemistry, and LOVE. It's also a tremendously wonderful story that has amazing characters, a storyline that is perfectly balanced between love, loss, pain, passion, and a bushel of other emotions. You will laugh and cry and beg for more yet walk away with a sense of fulfillment and know our leads will have a HEA.

I just received an ARC of A Cowboy of Legend by Linda Broday from #NetGalley and am volunteering an honest review.

So much more than a simple love story!

This is a longer book than usual, and it's worth every single page. Set in Fort Worth, TX in 1899, there's a familiar enemies-to-lovers romance, along with a side story of crusading for children's rights and a dash of dredging up family secrets with an examination of city vs. country life as the icing on top. All the moving parts blend seamlessly together to take the reader on an amazing ride back to a time when cowboys were still kings and women were just starting to realize the power they held to change the status quo.

It's a masterfully crafted story that dives deep into the hearts of its characters and creates a realistic world that will make you long for days gone by. This is my first book by this author, but it won't be the last. Deacon and Grace have a wonderful HEA that spreads their joy to everyone around, providing happy endings for all the major characters and a genuine book hangover for the reader. If you love romances set in the Old West, they don't come any better than this. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary electronic copy of A Cowboy of Legend by Linda Broday. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this book prior to publication. My opinions are my own and nothing has influenced my rating.

A Cowboy of Legend is a well written western historical romance with endearing characters and an emotionally charged plot. The pacing pulled me in from the first page to the last and kept me enmeshed throughout the story. Some of the secondary characters stole my heart and added greatly to my enjoyment.

Grace Legend is the heroine in this tale. She’s not the typical historical character, but that didn’t bother me in the least. She’s feisty, determined and yet sweet and feminine. I quickly fell in love with her and her genuine desire to help others.

Deacon Brannock is a great hero with many of the characteristics I most enjoy. While his past could have made him cynical, he doesn’t let it bring him down. He has goals and is determined to rise above his past.

The romance between Grace and Deacon touched my heart, and I truly wanted them to find their happy ending. While I don’t usually enjoy enemies to lovers romances, Ms. Broday managed to keep them from being too confrontational, so I enjoyed that aspect of the story.

If you enjoy western romances with characters who will grab your heart and not let go, then you will love A Cowboy of Legend as much as I did. This novel sets the pace for another great series, and I can’t read the next one. Happy reading!

A Cowboy of Legend is the first book in the amazing Linda Broday's new Lone Star Legends series. I was never a big fan of western historical romance until I read some of Ms. Broday's books; now I can't get enough of her stories about good men with bad pasts and the strong women who love them. This series is a spinoff of her immensely popular Men of Legend series. It's not necessary to read those first before diving into this volume. You'll feel right at home!

Deacon Brannock won the Three Deuces saloon in a poker game. What he really wants, however, is to purchase his own bit of land for a ranch, and the saloon is the means to that end. He's had a hard life and all he wants is a little peace. Well, he's not going to find any of that with Grace Legend around! Grace's best friend died at the hands of her drunken husband, and Grace is a member of the Temperance Movement to get alcohol out of her town and to fight for women's rights. They first encounter each other when Grace and her friends target Brannock's saloon; it doesn't go well for Grace. As she gets to know him, however, she begins to see that Brannock is really a good and caring man. Yet they remain on opposite sides of the fence, until they discover that young orphans of the town start to go missing...then they band together, in more ways than one...

This was such a lovely romance, one that makes you both smile and cry your eyes out. Grace was a strong young women who wanted to help women and children get a better life away from men violent from alcohol. She was also working on becoming a hard hitting reporter for the newspaper. It took a bit of time to warm up to Grace. Though she was trying to be helpful as a social justice warrior, she was blind to the fact that not every issue is simply black or white. When she began to get closer to Brannock, however, she started to see more clearly. You certainly couldn't fault her for her big mushy heart, especially as it came to her family, kids and eventually Brannock. And speaking of Brannock...sigh. Him I loved from the start! He was a good man with a hard past; all he wanted was his own bit of land to be happy. Even when he was at loggerheads with Grace about the saloon, he treated her kindly, making sure she was safe while walking home. His heart was just as big as Grace's - he took care of a young pregnant woman who was hiding from her abusive husband, and he also looked after the homeless orphans of the town. He had great chemistry with Grace, and their time together was tender. There were steamy times, but descriptions were not graphic in nature. The supporting cast was wonderful, especially Grace's parents, homeless Izzy, young pregnant Leah, bartender Harry, Brannock's friend Will, and Sarge the attack cat. I am waiting for book two of the series most impatiently!
