I had to stop reading after the first quarter as I just couldn’t get into this story at all. I loved historical romance books and enjoyed some of the author’s previous ones but unfortunately this one wasn’t for me.

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy

I did not read the two previous installments in this series, but I was able to read this story without any problem or confusion. The story was very interesting with a hero who had amnesia and a heroine who was betrothed to a man she did not want. The story was well-written with interesting characters. There was suspense, drama and emotion. It was an entertaining read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

But when Lancelot meets Clemence he has an intimidate want for her but knows that she will lead him to danger. I loved this author's writing and I do recommend this book.

Soon Lancelot and Clemence find themselves spiraling down into a vortex of duplicity and deception in this heart stopping love story that unfolds beautifully with drama, searing passion, uncertainties, hope, mayhem, with intense emotions from despair and betrayal to love and ecstasy. Clemence wants to join Queen Elizabeth's court but her father has decided she should marry instead. The man he has chosen might be young and handsome but there is something about him she doesn't like.

Lancelot has spent at least two years living off the land and hiding in the forest. He knows that there is danger if he shows himself but can't remember why.

Our hero has no memories beyond being in his forest. Our heroine sees something special in this wild uncivilized man.

This is a very unusual historical romance set in Tudor times. Legal matters were difficult unless there was a witness and who can trust what side that witness is on.

Very interesting, and great fun. I loved the characters and the story behind them.

I loved it.

Now, this is not a bad book. It just isn’t the book for me. I don’t love amnesia storylines. I don’t love accused-of-murder storylines. And I’ve been looking for books that are a bit lower action and lower anxiety than this one. That’s why I knocked off two stars.

But for the positives:

The Tudor setting was very well done. The language was different enough that it added to the atmosphere, but not overdone to the point of distraction.

The supporting cast was good — the villain in particular was a bit of a charicature, but certainly fun and interesting.

I loved the woodland idyll that Lancelot lives in. Seeing the interaction between civilized and uncivilized when Clemence arrived was certainly interesting. I liked their back and forth, how they ended up somewhere between those two extremes. Plus the gesture at the very end (I won’t give away spoilersh was incredible.

Overall, if you’re looking for a fun, Tudor adventure, this is a good book to pick up.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, provided by NetGalley.

A story woven to enchant and pull at the heart. What could be more wonderful than to find one's own Lancelot, hidden in the woods, living off the land, not remembering his true name, but strong as any warrior? A lady can only dream!!

Clemence is being pushed by her father to wed a disgusting man, Walter de Glanville. She is desperate to avoid the alliance and in a trick of fate, she is kidnapped by brigands. Fortunately. she is then rescued by none other than Lancelot, a man of the forest, who does not know his true name, but due to some items in his possession, it seems he may be of nobility.

There are so many things I want to say about this delightful story, but do not want to give away anything. A mystery woven with secrets, possible murder, a nefarious villain, humor and a love that builds unexpectedly.

In one word, Perfect!! Elizabeth Keysian always pulls me in with her imagination and does not let go until the end, always leaving me wanting more!!

Clemence plans to dazzle at court, but her father wants her to marry instead. Lancelot has been living on his own in the forest for the last two years, he washed up on the shore with no memory. One day he hears a woman screaming and rescues her from her kidnappers. He whisks her off to his forest and the two become close, he begins to trust her with his story. She notices he’s not what he seems, his clothes were once of fine quality and she thinks he’s of nobility. After everyone realizes he did not kidnap her he’s invited to stay with her family. Lord of the Forest by Elizabeth is one of the oddest books I've ever read. The gist is that a man woke up one day with not memories and commenced living in the forest on his own. He learned how to survive and he "built " a retreat where he was relatively safe. He killed or foraged for his food and ventured into civilization only occasionally where he stole items from gardens or pens, only enough so that the villagers would not think a person involved, but just bad luck. One day his peace was shattered when he witness a kidnapping. Two men were taking a young woman. He remembered enough to know this was not acceptable behavior and he took her back to his camp where she stay for a day and a half and got to know him, and he her. Just being around someone was reminding him of his life before this one. As he was returning her, he got caught and things started getting complicated for him and for them.

When I called this book odd, I did not mean to imply that it was not intriguing and interesting. It is the journey back to reality for a man bereft of his entire life. Keysian did a commendable job of helping him remember slowly and allowing his relationship with Clemence and with society grow at a reasonable rate. It was a good plot, full of twists and turns that one might not otherwise expect. It was typical in that a young lady's virtue was all and embarrassing the family was beyond the pale, and not acceptable no matter what the circumstance. When Lancelot regained his memory, he had also changed. He was a better man, partially because of his experiences and partly because of Clemence. It was an enjoyable, if rocky, read.

Will his past tear them apart ...

Of all the three books in this series, I think this is probably my favorite.
I loved this retelling of Greystoke’s tale with a drop of amnesia and a dash of mystery.
Because who is Lancelot, how he came to live alone in the wild and why.
Clemence is no helpless miss, sure when facing two determined men to abduct her, she can’t compete but if brain is needed, she uses all the cigs of her mind to find a solution.
Lancelot is an enigma, he recreated himself in the man he is now, subconsciously he categorized the forgotten drama of his past as a working to stay away from civilization.
He learned a new way to walk, hunt, hide, survive.
So when Clemence comes crashing in his life, she turns his life upside down. She coerces him to speak which he is not fond, she asks questions, makes demands, everything he does not want to answer. Worse, she will make him face his fears and nightmares.
But will he like the answers he will get.
Plus can he be enough for Clemence when she has dreams so far away from his own.
She wants courtly life when he longs for lonesomeness. Would they be able to meet in the middle or will her need for independence and the dark forces seeking Lancelot’s eternal silence come between them.
I loved Lancelot, he is no more the man he was before, but for love he is willing to make change, to not extract his deserved revenge. He reverts to his old life but some parts of him will always be the wild man he was as Lord of the Forest. Clemence, I understand her pursuit of more knowledge, her unwillingness to relinquish her own dreams to be someone she does not want to be. Yet, she fails to express her true feelings with Lancelot, when she knows he is a man needing to be addressed bluntly. He does not play game, he is straightforward.
Many of their mishaps could have been avoided if they had expressed eye-to-eye their actions.
4.5 stars

Clemence dreams of spending time at court, so she may serve her Queen, with her extensive knowledge of plants/medicine. Her parents have other ideas. They want her married and financially provided for. They feel Walter de Glanville is the perfect choice. Clemence is strongly against this union. Something is off with this man and she refuses. She goes off to gather some plants and that is when we "Lancelot". Lancelot hears Clemence in trouble and basically rescues her. He whisks her off to his forest and their the two become close. She realizes he is someone (of nobility) but he has lost his memory. She feels she can help him and when she tells him her story...the name Walter de Glanville does something and triggers some memories. The two are connected but how? He takes her home and eventually is invited to stay with her family. They we learn their attraction is much stronger than either want but they do not deny it. Her father catches her tending to Lancelot during a bad dream episode and now they much marry. They all agree they must find out who he is. There we are taken to a manor where we learn two brothers of noble birth are missing. One rumored to have killed the other. Is Lancelot a murderer or is he a victim of an evil scoundrel...What has Walter to do with all of them....Fabulous tale from Elizabeth Keysian. This is by far my favorite (so far) of this series. I started this book in the morning and could not put it down. I was finished before bed. Great story!!!

With no memory of his origins, his name, or where he came from, he does recall having read Morte d' Arthur and from the recesses of his mind, he plucks the name Lancelot and makes it his own. Thus, when he hears the screams of a maiden, he does not hesitate to race to her rescue. The problem is, once he has her in hand, what on earth does he do with her? He cannot take her back to his hideout and he cannot expose himself, for he instinctively knows that his life is in danger. Despite having grown up in a refined home and destined to serve the Queen at Court, Clemence is surprisingly laissez-faire about Lancelot's hideout and his feral behaviour. When he does return her to her home, she is appalled to realise just how much harm she is doing by exposing him to other people. Thus begins the re-education of Lancelot and with it comes certain danger as those wishing him harm try to implicate him in a horrendous crime. I was horrified to read that the punishment for being a Papist was more severe than for murder. The story was entertaining with some humour and suspense as well as a romance that grew out of Lancelot and Clemence having to spend time together. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Lord of the Forest is another exciting installment in the Trysts and Treachery series. The story stands alone, not referencing much in the previous books, beyond being set in the same treacherous Elizabethan world, however, the books are all excellent, and worth reading.

Amnesia plots are hard to pull off, and while it did result in dampening my enjoyment slightly, I still enjoyed Lancelot’s story arc, given the stakes that were so cleverly and suspensefully revealed, making him easy to root for.

I also easily became invested in Clemence as a heroine. I admired her for not wanting to be shackled to a bad husband, but finding a way to manage her situation as best she can with her father in control of her destiny, and when she finds herself betrothed to the mysterious Lancelot.

Full of romance and danger, this is another wonderful installment in Keysian’s Tudor-era series. If you love the period, or love historical romances with a suspenseful edge, I strongly recommend this one.

Be prepared to not want to put this book down once you start reading it! This is an absolutely wonderful story to read and it's filled with plenty of humour, mystery, danger and passion. Speaking of humour, the one part that still has me giggling when I think of it is the part where Lancelot greets Clemence's mother for the first time:)

Lancelot has lived in the forest for the last few years with no memories and more animal than human. When he rescues Clemence from some would be kidnappers, his world changes and he's not sure if that's good or bad. When Clemence finds out his story, all she wants is to help him and find out who he really is. Lots of intrigue follows, along with very funny moments of Clemence trying to teach Lancelot how to properly behave amongst others. As his memories start to return, you'll be sitting on the edge of your seat!! Very well written and a story I won't soon forget.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Lord Of The Forest is a magnificent historical romance by Elizabeth Keysian. Ms. Keysian has delivered an outstanding story that is well-written and she has created a stellar cast of characters to make that story even better. Clemence is trying to convince her father to send her to court instead of marrying. Her father already has her husband picked out. Lancelot woke in the woods beaten and doesn't know how he got there and is afraid to leave, so he's lived in the forest ever since then. Clemence meets Lancelot after he rescues her from an abduction attempt. Clemence and Lancelot's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. This book had me glued to my Kindle from start to finish. I think I've read all of Ms. Keysian's books and I have to say, this one might just be my favorite...so far. Lord Of The Forest is book 3 of the Trysts and Treachery Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sir Lancelot to the rescue of Clemence as she is being abducted! Lancelot has no memory because he was injured and he awoke at the banks of the woods. Clemence is trying to avoid a marriage to a creepy man.
Lancelot is invited into her home and due to circumstances they are forced into a betrothal.
The pair along with her family and a family friend they are on the hunt to discover Lancelots true identity. This journey is abound with many twisted and turns and attempted murder!

The author does a superb job in keeping the readers wanting to know more about what is to happen and what truly took place!

I would recommend this book.

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

I received this free book in exchange for an honest review.

I was hoping that Lancelot's memory loss could be used to give him a more "modern" view especially when it came to women. Unfortunately very early on he at least seemed to remember the lower standing and "use" of a women. I was very annoyed by it especially because a lot of the time he didn't even seem to have any special affection for Clememence. He just found her desirable.
The tone of the book also often jumps in terms of how the characters talk. Sometimes they spoke as if the book took place in today's time and then other times they spoke authentically.
Overall I didn't really like the book. Clemence was too focused on molding Lancelot as she saw fit (and there was a weird plot twist around his religion?) and Lancelot somehow forgot almost everything and still managed to be relatively sexist.

This was different. A hero with amnesia who hid in the woods for three years and forgot most about civilization (which may seem unrealistic for some). Then an innocent heroine who he rescues and they end up going back to civilization and falling in love in the process. There’s a murder mystery going on and some funny and interesting minor characters. I do appreciate that this story is a standalone and not a shameless plug for another installment in a series. There was a lovemaking scene but nothing to vulgar or graphic. I did like the final chapters. I requested this book via NetGalley and I am happy I got a copy.
