I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

I loved this one. Very fast paced, had me turning pages as I tore through it – I had to see how it would end. The characters were well rounded and the narrative felt believable. Gave me chills. Solid five

Let me start by saying that I would really give this book 3.5 stars, but I rounded it up to 4 stars because of the interesting topic of DID. That was the most fascinating part of the book and I found myself getting pulled in when Penny's character was featured.

I was immediately pulled into the story at the very beginning, but it quickly started lagging after the first few chapters. It took me so much longer to get through this book than usual. I just never really found myself drawn to it so that I could finish it. Once I decided to do it and really commit myself, I had to plow through the middle third of the book. Finally, around that last third is when things started picking up again and I finished it in one sitting.

Similar to the author's last book "The New Husband" there is a startling plot twist. I am not going to say that I didn't see it coming but the way it's revealed was a big WHOA. I'm not going to delve into all that since I dislike reviews with spoilers, but it's pretty good. There are some characters that could have been left out entirely (angry brother alert), but the others were perfectly fine. While the mother Grace features prominently, I kept wanting more and more from Annie. She was way more interesting!

Overall, I think it's a perfectly fine read. There are a zillion books out there, but this one is a good one to knock out in a day or two. I look forward to more from the author and hope that the plot twists out of left field continue.

All of D.J. Palmer’s novels are excellent! This one kept me on the edge of my seat. The subject-matter (DID) was well-researched, and written about respectfully.

Grace is devastated when her daughter, Penny, is accused of the brutal murder of her birth mother. Grace is convinced that her daughter is innocent, but it's not looking good for Penny - she was covered in blood and holding the murder weapon. Penny claims that she can't remember anything from that night.

Grace has always been protective of her daughter. She found Penny abandoned in a playground. From that moment on, Grace and her now deceased husband vowed to give her daughter a better life. As Penny got older, she began to have spells of strange actions - she would not remember people she'd met, begin speaking in a British accent, and refer to herself as other names. After Penny spent some time with psychiatrists, she was given a diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder (also known as DID).

Dr. Mitch has been assigned to Penny's case while she awaits trial. Will Dr. Mitch agree with the past DID diagnosis? Dr. Mitch has been able to access Penny's different personalities, also referred to as alters. Each alter has seemingly been accessing memories that may be pertinent to the case. Will anyone be able to put the pieces together of that ill-fated night? Could one of Penny's alters actually be capable of murder?

I've read DJ Palmer's other books, so I knew I had to read The Perfect Daughter. For me, this was a bit of a slow burn to finally get to the reveal at the end. Details were provided to the reader little by little. At times it felt like a tease, but I get that - it wouldn't make a good book to reveal all your cards right away. I'd finish a chapter and want to move on to the next chapter to figure out what was going on. I honestly couldn't figure out where this was going and really enjoyed how everything came together in the end. If you like a good psychological thriller with some twists, I'd definitely recommend this one!

Thank you NetGalley, & D.J. Palmer for this great ARC.

The Perfect Daughter is a mystery thriller about a girl who struggles with mental issues and she finds herself the suspect of the murder of her mother. The story explores her mental issues and whether or not she is guilty of murder.

The story was a interesting read. If you’re familiar with DID, I would definitely recommend this book to you.

A very interesting mystery kept me on the edge of my seat. I am unfamiliar with DID so it was fascinating to read about a character with this mental health problem. The amount of research that went into this book must have been so much!

The Perfect Daughter tells the story of Grace, the mother of Penny who has 3 alters and suffers from DID. She has been framed for the murder of her mother since she was found covered in blood with the murder weapon in her hand. What follows is Grace and her family trying to prove that Penny has DID and if possible her innocence. The story is told from 3 perspectives. Grace, Jack (her son), and Mitch (the psychiatrist at the institute where Penny is kept till the trial).

I couldn't put the book down. The characters were likable. I was satisfied with the ending if a bit farfestched.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. A mystery page turner, featuring a girl with Dissociative Identity Disorder. This is a fascinating mental illness that has gotten a lot of coverage in books and movies, but not always accurately. This author said he did his homework researching the disorder in order to portray it properly. Regardless, it is a solid novel that kept me reading past my bedtime

A thriller from beginning to end! Just when I thought I had it figured out, there was a new wrinkle, or perhaps a new perspective is a better way to put it, is introduced into the storyline. It kept me riveted throughout. A Big thanks to NetGalley for the early read.

Fairly compelling mystery that is a good beach read. The basic story is that a woman is dead and Penny is found at the scene of the crime, holding the murder weapon, with blood all over her. The catch: Penny suffers from having multiple personalities.

Suspense ensues as we learn Pennys story and that of her multiple personalities in the process of trying to solve the murder. It's a decent premise and decently written. If youre a huge fan of suspense, it's worth a read. A solid B+ of a book.

This is another great book by D J Palmer! Within the 1st ten pages, you don't want to stop reading. I had to slow myself down a few times while reading. I thought for sure the daughter committed the crime in the beginning however the book had a few twist and you wonder who really did. The ending catches you by total surprise, you don't see it coming.

DJ Palmer did it again, he completely and utterly blew my mind! He had me thinking the book was heading in a certain direction and cleverly steered the plot into another. I seriously thought every character was guilty at one time or another as I read. Books like this are pure perfection, a readers dream! My mind kept picking up the clues and trying to piece them together, but the author didn't give us all the pieces until the end and the last piece connected it all together perfectly. DJ Palmer is the new psychological thriller king! I can't wait for his next gripping thriller.

I wasn’t loving the DID portion of the storyline so the book was kind of dragging for me and then BAM!!!! I didn’t see that twist coming. What a rollercoaster of a story and the DID totally makes sense!

The Perfect Daughter is a psychological thriller about a teen girl with Disassociative Identity Disorder (multiple personalities) who is accused of murdering her estranged birth mother and her adoptive mother's desperation to prove her innocent. I really enjoyed this one except for the ending and in thrillers like this the "twist ending" is really make or break for me. Unfortunately this one just seemed too farfetched for me and soured how much I enjoyed the first 90% of the book.

A mystery thriller feather a teenage girl with multiple personalities (DID ~ dissociative identity disorder) got my attention!
I read “Three Faces of Eve” as well as “Sybil” and find this subject fascinating.

Penny was adopted at a very young age. She was found in a park by Grace and Arthur Francone. Penny’s mother was a drug addict, father not in the picture. They took her in as a foster child. The Francone’s had two sons and Grace quickly loved having a daughter. When Penny was around thirteen another personality named Eve, who was dark and out spoken. Later Chloe, and Ruby appeared ~ Chloe was a perfectionist always striving for straight As in school and Ruby speaks with a British accent; interesting that the four personalities have a lightly different name for Grace. Penny calls her Mom, Chloe says Mother, Ruby says Mum and Eve calls her Mother.
Story begins when Grace comes home and finds that sixteen year old Penny isn’t home nor is Arthur’s car.(Arthur has died but it isn’t unusual for Penny to drive his car but has permission and must report where she is going.)

Grace is not shocked when two Police Officers appear at her door. Grace is expecting that Penny may have gotten into some minor trouble. She is surprised when they report that Penny in custody and suspected of committing a serious crime and asked if she would come to the Police Station with a change of clothes for Penny. .
When Grace sees Penny she cannot believe her eyes as she is covered in blood and it appears she has murdered Rachel Boyd, her birth mother! However, Grace isn’t greeted with her daughter Penny but nasty Eve.
Penny has been seen by psychiatrists ~ many believe she was pretending. Grace believes she is not pretending and feels the need for someone new. Dr. Mitch McHugh is helpful; in fact he discovers the personalities, including one whom he believes is the real Penny.

Oops I might be telling you too much but there is more to this story.
Story kept me curious. Additionally I enjoy good courtroom drama so I totally loved the twists at the end.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ +
I was also curious about the amount of research that went into this story.
I read the “Acknowledgements” and while the author states that a substantial amount of research went into DID, he did take liberties. Also states that DID is very complex and many novels often portray the disorder incorrectly for the sake of dramatizing

Want to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this uncorrected eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for professional review purposes only. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Penny was found at the murder scene covered in blood with the murder weapon in her hand. The victim is her birth mother, Rachel. When Penny was four, she was found by Grace, abandon at a park. Even with a mysterious and likely troubled past, Grace and her husband Arthur adopt Penny. As she grew she began to develop new personas or personalities. They took Penny to many doctors who felt she was putting on a show to help deal with her past traumas. Now with Rachel murdered Grace and Dr Mitch McHuge must find answers to what happened. Does Penny really suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder (split personalities) or is she faking and a psychopath?

Dark and disturbing you won't want to miss this new thriller by DJ Palmer. He has definitely become one of my favorite authors. I have loved all his novels and this one did not disappoint. The story will leave you on the edge of your seat. It will drive you bananas as you try to figure out whats going on. A story like this can be hard to articulate when you have one character who is actually multiple characters in one but Palmer has mastered this skill. His attention to detail with Dissociative Identity Disorder was well researched and complex. The only thing I didn't love about this book was Grace, Penny's mom. She was kind of annoying at times but I think her actions are what any mother would do given the circumstances. Overall I loved this book. It will likely be one of my favorite thrillers of the year

85% was such an original, interesting story! The twist at the end got a little...far fetched, but overall I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspenseful family drama

This is my first D.J. Palmer book and I am SO excited to read more by the author. This book was thrilling, fascinating and INTENSE! The Perfect Daughter was an absolute page turner, and the topic of Multiple Personality Disorder is not one I have ever read about before. I found this book very hard to put down and stayed up late in to the night to finish it! 4/5- definitely recommend this one to others!
