I truly look forward to recommending this book to readers who enjoy contemporary women's' fiction with light romance and a little suspense. Jillian's life is not going well. Her beloved mother recently died after a long illness, and crushing medical bills have made it necessary to sell her childhood home in Brooklyn. To make matters worse, she's just lost her job as a journalist. A former colleague offers a freelance reporting job, and she decides to investigate a mysterious secret society of professional New York women. It's so secretive, that she's walked blindfolded into her first meeting. Jillian is determined to infiltrate this group, expose their secrets, and write an article that will put her back where she belongs in the journalism world. Along the way, she encounters danger, romance, and even a touch of witchcraft. A great read!

So... I have some conflicting thoughts on this novel. The first 60% of this book was AMAZING and it was going to be a 5 star for me. I couldn't put it down Then, it took a very weird and strange turn that made me feel like I was reading a completely different novel. It was just not what I was expecting and left me feeling a bit disappointed by one of my most anticipated reads of 2021. I feel like the main concept was so interesting, fresh, and easily could have stood on it's own. I hate that it was ruined by the unrealistic and absurdity of one of the later storylines. Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I started out liking this book and the storyline it promised, but somewhere I got lost. There was a weirdness that I didn’t expect. As soon as the author left the original conceit, I was turned off. So, this was a major disappointment.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this book and it ended in a place that I did not expect. I really liked this book because it took on a commentary that can easily be hated. The author described the secret society in the book as feminists that want to change the world. Yes, good. We need that, but she includes commentary on how power corrupts and just because a group starts in the right, it is easy to be lead astray; a good thing for us all to remember during this time. I liked all of the characters in the book. They were complex and easy to want to hate. minus Raf because he is a good one. I loved the little twists and turns the book took towards the conclusion, which was the one I wanted. I would love a second book to see what will happen after, so hopefully this happens!
