I believe this book is a spin-off of an earlier series by Janet Dailey, but this book can be read as a stand-alone without having read that series. Set in the late 1800s, through this book we are given a glimpse of how tough life on a cattle drive is, and how determination can lead a person to pursuing their dreams. I am always impressed by a book that draws me in and won’t let go, and this story definitely did that. The writer also does a very good job of describing life during that period of time. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Joe Dollarhide was left for dead during a stampede. Sarah who was Joe's girlfriend had his baby. Sarah later found out that Joe was alive. I enjoyed the chemistry between Joe and Sarah. I cant wait to read Janet Dailey's next book.

I read this for early review by Netgalley.
The story was predictable and too many details about subjects best left to imagination. A quick read...perhaps more history would make the story better

I don't typically read historical romance, but this author is one of my favorites. She doesn't disappoint.

Joe Dollarhide has dreams of owning his own ranch someday, but to do that he needs money and experience. He joins a cattle drive for Benteen Calder from Texas to Montana. After a stampede leaves Joe lost and severely injured, Benteen orders his crew to abandon the search leaving Joe for dead.
Sarah has travelled to Montana to live with her uncle, hoping to become a doctor like him. In a chance reunion with the man who once rescued her, she nurses Joe back to health and falls in love with him. But Joe knows as a poor outlaw he'll only hold her back from her dreams, so he leaves to pursue his own fortune. But years later when Joe owns a ranch of his own with his wife and young son, Sarah shows up in his town with a boy that looks suspiciously just like him.
Western romance at its finest. I liked the part where Joe learns to gentle wild horses and turns his dreams into a thriving horse ranch. This is a spinoff of her earlier Calder series, but as I've never read those before I can say it reads as a stand alone. I look forward to the rest of the series, possibly featuring Joe's competitive sons?
Thank you to Janet Dailey and Kensington books for the opportunity to read this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This is a spin-off of the Calder series. Joe Dollarhide starts north on one of Benteen Calder’s cattle drives from Texas to Montana. This was an excellent book. It has the feel of the original Calder series. I could not put it down. I cannot wait for the next one!!

As per usual, I have always enjoyed books written by this author. This novel was no exception...that being said I would like to know who is writing her books these days, as she has been long gone! "Janet Dailey passed away peacefully in her home in Branson on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was 69. " So, either she set aside a load of unpublished stories, or the "ghost" writer does an excellent job of copying her style!!!

I'm giving this book 4 stars, I liked it! My thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.
