With seventeen books and counting in the series I went through a period when I thought I'd stop reading the series because it wasn't quite my cup of tea anymore.  This story in many ways reminded me of the earlier books in the series when I was first intrigued and enchanted.  I enjoyed meeting the people in the Appalachian mountains and being introduced to a totally different way of life and didn't even miss the constant adrenaline rush of dealing with danger. Don't get me wrong there is just the right amount of sexual by-play and action to keep a Christine Feehan fan engaged.
Every year Rubin and his brother journey to the mountains where they were born and lost their entire biological families. Rubin has a rare healing gift that causes him to be always protected by the ghostwalker teams.  This is the one opportunity he has to visit with his past, give back to the people he grew up who don't get the medical attention they need and to regroup and rejuvenate.   This year, it's different. There are definite signs someone has been here, might still be here.  Rubin has a character in many of the stories and it's good to see him finally get his own story but also to learn about his backstory.
Jonquille has her own share of gifts being an early experiment and deemed a failure. She's come seeking Rubin's help in managing her gift that she views as a curse of being a lightning conductor that prevents any physical contact with other living creatures. For the first time with Rubin not only can he conduct the electricity safely so she can practice her healing gifts but she can explore an intimate relationship.  Of course this isn't paradise and there are soldiers looking to recapture her and they have interesting gadgets and tools to help in their capture. Apparently there is yet another group of super soldiers who are at large and on mission to capture Jonquille.
Pretty soon the woods are flush with two different groups of soldiers and Rubin, his brother and Jonquille with a little bit of help from a couple of the locals who aren't quite what they seem to take them on. I really like how the story evolves like a puzzle where you find the right clue and who next level opens up.
The story ends on a high note with an exciting finish. There are lots of exciting threads and I can't wait to see how the author will follow these to deliver yet more stories in this long running series.

I'm a serial reader when it comes to author Christine Feehan and while the majority of the fans would likely pick her #darkseries as their favorite, I come in hard and fast with the #ghostwalkerseries instead. Christine has created a very cool and unique world for her Ghostwalker teams based in science fiction and reality that really shines through. This particular book is fast and furious, and happens in a very condensed time frame. It is action-packed and introduces some new people that will allow this series to continue to grow and shine. Strap in and enjoy the thrill!

Romance, Sexy, Intrigue, Plot Twist, Action Packed

This was a enjoyable, touching story of love, and family connections of blood, and adopted family. We learn more about the Campos brothers, and their love of family, and those they care for living in the Appalachian Mountains. The brothers return yearly to offer their services as Doctors to those that will only deal with a healer. Rubin, the Psychic Surgeon, Doctor, Scientist, and has the ability to redirect lighting to destroy or save crops, lands, and lives. Diego, protector of his older brother, keeping all he considers family safe, and holds his secrets close.

Jonquille, one of the women from Whitney's first group of girls, and considered a failure, may look fragile, but she's a woman of strength, a fighter. Jonguille's a healer, a conduit to draw energy from others, as well as lightning. Unfortunately she isn't able to direct lightning, and is afraid of hurting others. She stays isolated as much as possible, but finds out that Military trackers are after Rubin to capture. Believing Whitney is after Rubin, Jonquille tries to lead the Military trackers away from Rubin, but he arrives a week early in the Appalachian Mountains. Instant attraction, and they both realize Whitney has paired them. Rubin doesn't fight the connection, but Jonquille is determined to keep Rubin safe, even if the cost is her life. Almost too late, Rubin realizes that the men are after Jonquille, and her healer abilities.

A new villain has appeared, and he wants his own Ghostwalker team, and has been conducting horrific experiments on men. Secrets revealed. One being that the Ghostwalker program may began years ago. Jonquille, along with Team 4 rallies to save these men from a painful death. Will they make it in time?

LIGHTNING GAME is filled with danger, fast action, and steamy romance all at author Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker best.

Ghostwalker Rubin Campo grew up in the harsh and unforgiving environment of rural Appalachia with a large family that suffered many losses. Rubin and his brother, Diego, return to their family place each year to help out the locals as they are doctors who never forgot their roots. Someone is using their rural cabin; it looks as if she is a Ghostwalker as well, but possibly an enemy or spy from the whack job scientist who created these super soldiers. Rubin has an ability to perform psychic surgery which is a gift so rare, he is fiercely protected by not only his brother, but all of the Ghostwalkers they live with in a Louisiana swamp compound. This constant shielding has left him feeling alone and isolated and not a little frustrated.

Jonquille was one of the early experiments in weaponizing humans. She can produce and attract lighting with her body making it almost impossible to be around humans for long as she draws energy from them. Jonquille’s life has been one of loneliness and hiding out from government forces who want to use her talents. Considered a failure of the first generation Ghostwalker enhancements, Jonquille is still quite a force to be reckoned with. She has been covertly following Rubin’s lectures on lighting and its attendant power. Rubin also has an affinity for working with lighting so it’s not surprising Jonquille hopes he can help her learn some control of the deadly force.

They are an intentionally matched pair, again a manipulation by Whitney who did that to many of his human experiments. Rubin is just about as solitary as Jonquille because of his coveted abilities so he is more than happy to find his fated mate. Jonquille thinks a paramilitary group headed by another megalomaniac scientist is after Rubin; however, things take a decidedly different turn. She also has a nascent healing ability that is a match to Rubin’s rare talent to perform psychic surgery.

Readers of this series will know by now what kinds of complexities to expect with a very high body count as well as stories of abuse suffered by the Ghostwalkers. Whitney and his ilk consider the super soldiers expendable; they are often little more than cannon fodder. This story has numerous twists and turns including some long, involved covert ops with those who have an agenda where Jonquille is concerned. At book number seventeen in the series, there is quite a backstory with all the interconnected Ghostwalkers and their mates in the “family” backwater compound.

I have always devoured Christine Feehan's works, but her GhostWalker books have gotten better and better with each book! The network of characters interweave throughout the series to give a better understand and love for each and every one. . . and leave me totally satisfied with the story being told while keeping me anxious to read the next installment. (The best of both worlds for an ongoing series as far as I am concerned.)

I enjoyed seeing into Rueben's heart. He is a healer of immeasurable skill - one of very few in the world that can mend a broken body with his psychic abilities alone. But he is also a soldier and protector that is fed up with being coddled and kept from harm's way in order to keep him and his remarkable talent safe. The actions of his team, and his own brother Diego in particular, leave him frustrated and feeling like a liability in the field, rather than an asset. He is a fully fleshed-out character rather than the run-of-the-mill ruggedly handsome prince charming with few flaws or issues. It is one of the many things I love about Ms. Feehan's writings. Jonquil, on the other hand, would give everything she has to be the healer she knows she could be if not for genetic experiments gone wrong that make her unable to interact with people without endangering their lives even more. She yearns for family, love, and human contact. She wants so badly to not be the epic failure she has been classified as her entire life. The interactions between the two are dynamic and believable, despite their futuristic abilities. They may be fated for one another, but the relationship still takes work. . . and the need for communication is still just as important, even for telepaths.

This book was a very fast read for me. I could not put it down! Between the suspense of the situation, the building love between Rueben and Jonquil, and the cagey old moonshining codger Luther, I had to keep reading despite the lateness of the hour. I hope others enjoy it as much as I did.

Recommended for fans of Seanan McGuire, Jim Butcher, and Christine Feehan's other series.

Classic Christine Feehan - it's everything you love about her books and that makes it a must read. Rubin and Jonquille are sweet together plus one of the best parts of this is the deeper understanding we gain of Rubin and Diego and their fun bro banter. I really need Diego's story.

I absolutely loved this one, it pulled on my heart, made me wonder, made me laugh and it took me to Appalachian Mountains and down to the Louisiana swamps. I had sniffles when we meet some other Ghost Walkers, what they had been through, what they were hoping to achieve. Just hurt my heart. I laughed out loud when Rubin and Diego would pick and snipe at each other mentally and it totally thrilled me that Jonquille was intelligent and self confident enough to know what was going on and had her own snark. This book hooked me with the brothers relationship and reeled me in with such an intelligent, caring women in Jonquille. It carried me down the road with them on their struggle and left me sniffling with a box of Kleenex wondering where are we going next. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions #lightninggame #christinefeehan

I received a free copy from Netgalley for review. Lightning Game is a solid contribution to the Ghostwalker series. Rubin has been waiting in the background for most of the series, and it was nice to finally see more of him than as a passing mention. Unlike some of his friends, he lacks the "alphahole" trait, which is a refreshing change, and it makes him much easier to like. While Jonquille was a little less memorable to me than some of Feehan's other heroine's (e.g. Bellisia will always stand out), the relationship still worked for me. They were just two smart people who were good at what they did and really liked each other, and I have nothing to say against any of that.
The plotline was action-packed, and surprisingly far less steamy than some of her previous editions in this series. From the day the characters meet, it is very nearly non-stop action, interspersed with scenes of the main characters just being insanely competent. It was a fun read, and I could barely put it down.

Jonquille is on a mission. Her success is a matter of life or death. But is it her life or someone else's?
Lightning Game is seventeenth in Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series. And in it Ruben needs to get away. What he isn't expecting is someone else in his home away from home. Meeting Jonquille isn't what he expected, but is she a trap? I loved seeing Rubin work his way into Jonquille's heart. Getting her to trust him isn't easy, especially as he struggles with trust himself. I enjoyed getting to know Rubin better. He is alone even as he is surrounded by family and friends. I loved that Jonquille helps him come to grips with the protection he gets even as he protects others. I loved that Rubin allows Jonquille to see what family means. The chemistry between Jonquille and Rubin is slow burning. I love that Ms. Feehan didn't focus on just the relationship Jonquille and Rubin. I loved seeing how Rubin and Diego interacted. I loved how Diego and Jonquille interacted. I loved the sense of family that permeated this story. I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to this series and I can't wait to see where Ms. Feehan will take us next.

Part of the Ghostwalker series, this was a good addition to it. Lots of action, and we get a different location, as Riben and his brother Diego return to the Appalachian cabin they were brought up in. They find someone has been waiting for them, and someone is also hunting her. Good storyline, and enjoyed this one.

Feehan certainly knows how to write and this story sucked me in. However, at about the halfway point, the source of conflict lost its impact and that took away from some of the vibrancy of the book. While this is not Feehan's most compelling book, it is certainly worth a read.

This was a very fast paced book and I could not put it down. The chemistry between Rubin and Jonquille is spot on and add in Diego and the trio are ready for any action. Would recommend for anyone who likes a bit of science with their romance. The ghostwalkers are a great series and the sizzle is great.

Lightning Game is a brilliant addition to the Ghost Walker series. It is bursting with suspense, mystery, passion, and intrigue. It took hold of my heart and refused to let go. Nothing could have stopped me from reading this marvelous story!

Jonquille is a fabulous character who immediately tugged at my heart. Her story is beyond tragic and more then anything I was hoping she could find some peace. Rubin has his own devastating past, but at least he has his brother Diego to help him cope with the danger of the present and future. When these two indescribable forces collide, life will never be the same again. Rubin reaches out for his soul's other half while Jonquille pulls away in order to protect him. At the crucial moment will she be able to walk away, or will she find herself irrevocably bound to him by the force of her heart and will?

Rubin knows a good thing when he sees it. He knows beyond any doubt that Jonquille is his, and he plans to fight dirty if he has to in order to convince her. Nothing will stand in his way: not enemies, not his brother, and certainly not the woman herself. He is lost to her, and it doesn't take long until she sees and understands that he is her future. I loved their gentle yet insistent push and pull. There was no forcing only gentle, barely there touches, words, and kisses.

Christine Feehan is an absolutely wonderful author who never fails to bring me to my knees with her thought provoking storylines and beautifully broken characters. She truly knows the power and passion of her words and she remains unchanged and a strong foundation for her readers. We can count on her genius, her creativity, and her heart to deliver every single time.

GhostWalker Rubin Campo and his brother, Diego, return to their family’ s homestead in the Appalachian Mountains. They immediately realize that someone has been living in their cabin, a woman who also happens to be a Ghostwalker.

Rubin is one of the rare Ghostwalkers who can also heal. His team and his brother are extremely protective of him because of it, which causes some tension. Jonquille has spent her life away from everyone out of fear she will accidentally electrocute someone. These two have been paired together by Whitney but they also have a lot in common. I was surprised by how much I liked Rubin and his brother. They have been in previous books but I didn’t think much of them at the time. Now I really want to see Diego fall in love.

Rubin and Jonquille’s story was good but I did have a few issues with it. First, I struggled with the pacing of this book. The beginning was very slow and I struggled to get into the story and characters, which rarely happens with this series for me. I also found Jonquille’s internal monologue of why she needs to leave Rubin very repetitive and annoying.

My biggest issue with this book, and the past few books of this series, was the lack of development in the search for Whitney. I know there are a lot of characters in this series who still need to find their significant other but we do need some progression with the original storyline. We get a new enemy in this one which is ok but I would have rather seen progression towards stopping Whitney.

Overall, this was an interesting Ghostwalker book with a unique couple. I did like the book overall but had a few issues with the story and characters.

Trigger warnings:
- Suicide of a relative (briefly mentioned)
- Attempted rape of a child (described)
- Animal deaths (described)
- Human experimentation
- Torture

I really enjoyed this latest book in the GhostWalker series by Christine Feehan. This is Rubin and Jonquille's story. Tough as nails but lonely for human contact, they find each other and work together to fight against the doctor who performed experiments on them to create super soldiers. Lots of action, suspense, and romance makes this a great read. Highly recommended.

Lightning Game is everything you expect from a Christine Feehan story. I was so excited to read this story, as I was finally able to learn more about Rubin and his brother Diego. In Lighting Game we take a journey to the Appalachian Mountains with Rubin and Diego and it is here where we learn about their tragic childhood, and it is also where Rubin finds Jonquille. This is an amazing story, love the setting, the romance, the occasional humor, and the bonding.

Love this book. Rubin has found his pairing and he is not letting her go but he might just push her away if he isn't careful and thank goodness he has Diego to watch that back and school him on a thing or two.

Jonquille has been waiting to meet Rubin, he's her last hope. But when she does it isn't what she thought it would be and now she is going to walk away knowing at least she tried.

Until he won't let her. The problem is he can't fix her like she wanted and he was her last hope. So she's stuck and doesn't know exactly what to do next. Then that decision is taken out of her hands when trouble arrives.

This is one of my favorite books of the series and I cannot wait to read the next one.

I have always loved the Ghostwalker world that Feehan creates. I sincerely enjoy all her worlds except for the Carpathian (Dark Series) one. Finally, this book gives me so much more in terms of building up relationships, learning more about the environment where the story occurs, giving me elements of who these people are and how they interact among the community and each other. More depth, more knowledge of what makes the characters the people they are. Thank you for this and I hope this direction is where the succeeding books are headed for.
