This book was way too repetitive in sections and the whole thing was just too drawn out. Having to read all of this information was quite boring and skipping ahead to the recipes, was the only thing that was worth my time. Even the recipes weren't quite recipes. Only a few actually had a recipe and others were just talking about essential oils for a specific organ. Every blend/organ system she talks about in the recipe section, should have had a recipe. Then you can also alter it as you go. But a general baseline is always good to have.

I am so grateful to have found this book. It has reawakened my fascination with an interest in and believe in the power of healing one’s body, mind, and spirit through essential oils. Before reading this, I only had a very basic understanding of how essential oil’s work. The author goes into much greater detail here, which has only increased my understanding. Some of the information was a little too scientific for me, and over my head, but most of it was written in a way that I could completely understand. I already have my order in for a paperback copy of this book so I can highlight underline and have it on my healing shelf.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

--Must Have for Your Essential Oil Library--

I received an advanced review copy from the publisher of this book through NetGalley and here are my thoughts.

I own several excellent books on essential oils, which I have enjoyed using for years, and it would take a special book to get me to purchase another book on essentials oils. This is THAT SPECIAL BOOK.

Jodi Cohen and Ten-Speed Press have put together an incredibly useful, beautiful, and well organized book that presents scientific information and "actual usage" cases that I have yet to read in my other sources. In addition, the book addresses in detail the top health concerns for many in modern industrialized societies...brain function, blood sugar levels, and the parasympathetic system. As a side note, I learned about Jodi through her amazing online summit that brought together many experts on the Parasympathetic System. This woman is dedicated to educating people about how to regain their mental and physical health through activating the parasympathetic system and take us out of our "fight or flight" sympathetic system.

So, this book is not an "Complete Guide to 1001 Essential Oils". Instead, it deep dives into how essential oils affect our body (brain, vagus nerve, etc.) and how they can be used to detox specific organs (lungs, intestines, skin, kidneys, uterus, etc.), and systems (digestive, lymphatic and more). Topics such as insulin resistance, weight loss, stress and mood, brain function enhancement, and ADHD are just some of the topics covered.

In addition, I am very appreciative of the inclusion of the many illustrations of the body and systems that accompany the text.

In short, if you have ANY interest in health and essential oils, this book is ESSENTIAL, no pun intended!

This book gives a detailed description of how the nervous system works and how essential oils can be used to help modulate it. The author is a nutritionist and the founder of Deep Blue essential oils company. The book also has recipes to make the essential oil blends she recommends.
I am a nutritionist and the overview of the nervous system, the brain, the endocrine system and inflammation were very detailed. It might be almost too detailed for most lay people. The recipes were quite helpful, however.
I would have liked footnoted references for the text, instead there is just a detailed bibliography. This could be useful for a more advanced user of essential oils.
I received a complementary copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was something else that I first expected. But in a good way. It is an in-depth read, scientifically explains effects that essential oils have on our body and nervous system.

There are many books about essential oils on the market, but this one offers us something new, and more than other books. I read quite a few books about essential oils, but here I learned something new. This book is not so much for beginner readers. I would recommend it to those who know a few things about the subject.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this! All opinions are my own.

*I received an eARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

As I was reading this, my husband glanced over, gave me <i>the look</i> and asked, "Are you highlighting whole pages again?" Why yes, yes I am. I gleaned so much from this book and left it riddled with highlights to return to later. I've been using essential oils since I was 18 and they've helped me through some pretty tough times in my life with my emotions and my body. I'm fascinated by the increasing evidence and knowledge we have on how they work and how we can use them more effectively. Even though I've read several oily books and researched quite a bit on PubMed & the like, this book had more to teach me! As this book centers on the brain, much of it relates to that, but there was also information on using oils to support various organs/systems of the body and even what oils could be helpful in breaking down biofilms or supporting proper glucose levels.

My only complaint would be that the information seemed quite scattered to me; it could have been better organized.

This book offers great info on using essential oils to heal the body. Detailed graphics, for instance, of where to apply the oils to feet or the ears to assist in different body parts. There are quizzes, steps to healing certain areas (such as digestion and even sleep!). The book is very eye-catching and well organized, with great information on essential oils and how they affect certain parts of our body, i.e. lavender and its relaxation properties. Highly recommended for any essential oil enthusiast or newbie.

Essential oils to boost the brain and heal the body is a book jam packed with information on essential oils and how use of them can help with your mind and bodily functions.
There is so much information in this book and great detail is given for each area of the body e.g. weight loss, stress relief, brain function etc.
Some of the information went over my head because there was so much of it but this book would make a fantastic addition to anyones bookshelf who loves or has a keen interest in aromatherapy and natural remedies.

This book is chockful of information on essential oils and how they work on a biological level to affect your mood and health. I thought it was a very informative read and really enjoyed it! While I loved how comprehensive it was, I think that it would be a little bit dense for the average reader. This could be evaded, to some extant, by reading it in smaller bits at a time. What I disliked most was how redundant the writing was. I'm not sure if the author was so repetitive in an attempt to try and simplify information for the reader by repeating it or hoping that would help the reader remember better, but I found it really disorienting. I kept skimming back to see if I had actually just read that a few pages ago or if I ended up a few pages back somehow since some points were almost totally verbatim in a slightly different order. Thus, the book could have been condensed considerably. However, I still really enjoyed the content and the essential oil blends that were included. Additionally, unlike most books, you don't just get a list of oils with their uses, but the oils are woven into the content on how the brain and specific conditions are affected by them. It is not an exhaustive book on all essential oils, rather it covers oils that boost the brain and heal the body, as the title states, so I would use it as a companion to a more complete book that does include a list of oils and safety precautions, as this book does not contain them.
