I did really enjoy this book but not really feeling any of the characters like I did with the short story. I will be continuing with this series because I do I love it. Lynn Cahoon is becoming one of my favorite cozy authors and I can't wait to read more from here. I did also get the audio book from Netgalley and I loved loved the narrator. I will be buying a physical copy of the book as soon as it comes out.

This is the 1st book in a new paranormal cozy mystery series by the talented Lynn Cahoon and it is quite enjoyable. It starts off a little slow introducing the characters but it picks up quickly. Mia is a kitchen witch who heals people and she just bought an old school that she is turning into a catering business and culinary school. Mia and her ex- boyfriend's sister, Christina, live on the 2nd floor. Mia's ex-boyfriend, Isaac, comes to town which causes problems. Mia's grandmother's friend is murdered. There is a big snowstorm. Luckily, Mia becomes friends with the local grocer, Trent and his brother, Levi. There is a lot going on that kept me intrigued. The characters are likable and interesting. Lynn Cahoon has a wonderful new series! #NetGalley #OnePoisonPie

This first book in a new cozy mystery series introduces us to Mia, a kitchen witch getting ready to open her catering business/cooking school. When her first client is found dead before the party, Mia becomes a suspect in the murder.

I enjoy reading mysteries mixed with magic because I enjoy the possibilities magic brings to how a crime can be committed or solved, and how magical possibilities can cleverly misdirect readers. This series definitely leans more mystery than fantasy. Beyond a ghost and some mind-reading between family members, the series is quite light on the fantasy elements, so I would recommend it more to mystery readers than fantasy readers.

If you're wondering if you need to read the prequel (Chili Cauldron Curse), I think you're safe just starting with this book. Read the prequel if you want to know more about Mia's relationship with her ex and how Mia's cat ended up being possessed by the spirit of her grandmother's boyfriend.

The book was wasted on me. Chili Cauldron Curse, the prequel novella to jumpstart this series, was full of spells, covens, and a family legacy. One Poison Pie, on the other hand, has no magic, just a woman, Mia Malone, trying to start a cooking school in a town that has magic running through it, but a witch who doesn’t call on it to solve a murder or to keep herself safe. A disappointing book from start to finish.

Mia is a kitchen witch who has decided to start over in Magic Springs, Idaho. With her grandmother’s support and the sister of Mia’s ex-fiancé to help, she is determined to get her cooking school and food delivery business off the ground. What she didn’t plan for was the body of the town mimesis in the dining room of her first catering job.

There are a couple of plot confusions, but once you get past them and the lack of magic in the book that is supposed to have magic as the central theme the book lays flat. I can’t say there is any one character I could depend on to get me over the boring parts, so for me, this will be a miss.

Yay- a new series! Mia, who has been dumped and lost her job as well, moves home to Magic Springs to live with her Grandma Mary Alice and open a catering business. Little does she suspect that her ex's little sister Christina (who is a good egg) will follow her or that she'll become wrapped up in a murder investigation on her first job! That's right- her first client is murdered. Geez. What's a woman to do? Why, investigate of course ! Along with Mary Alice and Christina, she snoops among the denizens of the town, which include, btw, witches, warlocks and others. This is a tad paranormal (but not too woo woo) and Cahoon plays some of it for nice chuckles. Cozy readers know there's more than one person to consider, that Mia will find a love interest, and that there will be a good resolution. I liked this for the characters, who I expect will grow nicely in future installments, as well as the atmospherics- and the mystery kept me guessing. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Looking forward to the next one.

One Poison Pie (Kitchen Witch Mysteries #1) by Lynn Cahoon
Publisher: Kensington Books
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Release Date: January 26, 2021

One Poison Pie is the first book in the Kitchen Witch Mysteries by Lynn Cahoon and is so good that I can't wait for the next book to be released!

This paranormal mystery was so good! I love all of the characters and the hint of chemistry and flirtation. I love the small town atmosphere and the not-so secret coven of witches!

Mia is a chef and a kitchen, trying to pick herself up from a bad breakup with her boyfriend and business partner. She recently moved to Magic Springs, Idaho and starts her own business. She is faced with so many obstacles along the way, but faces them bravely.

The mystery was great, with lots of twists and turns and great suspense, right up to the very end. I loved this book and highly recommend it to cozy mystery fans!

While I wait for the next book to be released, I'll be reading the prequel novella, Chili Cauldron Curse because I can't get enough of this story!

I'm so grateful to Lynn Cahoon, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

This was really fun!! i liked where this picked up from the last time and liked the plot and romance. If you haven’t read the prequel novella, I highly recommend it- we meet all of the main characters and get the story on how Issac becomes an ex, and how Christina comes to stay with Mia.

Seeing Mia, grams and Christina become a little family was sweet, and the mystery was both compelling and left threads for later stories. Who sent the “gifts”? Who really made the call? I want to see some of the story focus on James in the future; he’s a sweet character and seeing him in the lodge as well as being Trent’s friend - these were fun aspects of the story, and allowed the guys to interact well. I also want to see where Levi and Christina go, and I hope that’s the last we see of Issac.

While One Poison Pie by Lynn Cahoon is the first in the series, I really do feel like I should have read the novella, Chili Cauldron Curse, that came out about 5 months before this one. I know 2020 was a weird year for publishing, but I really wonder why they decided to put out a novella to introduce the series.
In the novella it looks like Mia comes to town to help out grandma and she must have decided to stay in town by the end of the book. I can see how it is a prequel, but I think it would have been better to make it into a full length book and start the series with Chili Cauldron Curse. While I didn’t feel lost while reading One Poison Pie, I did feel like I was missing parts of the story.

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in One Poison Pie. Mia and Christina make a wonderful pair of roommates and sleuth/sidekick, and Cahoon has already primed the pump to have two emerging romances by the end of the story. Although I can see some readers of the cozy genre not enjoying all the mentions of sexual feelings that Mia is experiencing. Grandma is a wonderful matriarch and I’m glad that Mia has someone there to help her with her powers and that she’s not stumbling around blind trying to figure out more about them.

On the note of magical powers, I wish they were more incorporated into the book. There was so much potential for more magical spells, recipes, and herbal concoctions to be added to the story. I’m hoping Cahoon will go deeper into the traditions of kitchen magic and benefits of various herbs in future books.

I am interested to see how this series progresses (especially since there is a cliffhanger) and would be willing to read the next book since the characters are so enjoyable and to see if the magic is expanded upon.

This is another winner from Lynn Cahoon! I read the novella that precedes this book, and I was hooked. Great quirky characters that are fun to read about, and a tight plot with twists and turns makes this book a must read. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series! 5 stars.

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a fun debut! I enjoyed the concept of a "kitchen witch," which felt like a fresh spin on the usual witchy cozy mystery. Plus, as someone who lives fairly close to Idaho, I enjoyed the setting quite a bit.

One Poison PIe is listed as the first book in the Kitchen Witch Mysteries series, but the characters are introduced in an earlier book titled Chili Cauldron Curse. I enjoyed this book more than the prequel, perhaps because I've become fond of the characters. Mia's love interest and the foreboding message from a spirit make me anxious for the next edition in this cozy paranormal.

What a fun way to end my reading year! I thought this was a great start to a cozy series. A bit of confusion on my part because there is a novella that actually started this that I haven't read, a couple of hanging questions at the end, plus I'm not sure why there wasn't any poison or a pie in the story. But, I enjoyed all the characters and appreciated that the 'magical' elements weren't used as a means to solve the mystery. I will be very interested in reading the next in the series.

I love the idea of a mystery intertwined with a touch of magic, so i was delighted at the prospect of reading this. The characters are fairly well developed and they are, for the most part, an interesting group. I also enjoyed the way they interacted with each other.

One of the reasons I love cozy mysteries so much is that they leave out all the bad language and sex that is in almost every regular mystery out there, so I was a bit disappointed that the author had the main character, Mia, constantly thinking that all she wanted from a man she just met was sex. Maybe this author has outgrown this market and what readers want?

One Poison Pie is the first book in the Kitchen Witch Mystery Series by Lynn Cahoon. We meet Mia who is a kitchen witch. She is coming out of a relationship and starting over. She has bought an old school and plans to turn it into a catering business and eventually a cooking school.

The day of Mia's first BIG event, there is a murder, and she is a suspect, but she is not the only one. Mia has become a target and works to find out who the murderer is before it could ruin her business or worse.

I LOVED this book from beginning to end. I could not put it down. The mystery and the magic was perfectly paced and intertwined. The characters are complex and well fleshed out.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I highly recommend reading [book:Chili Cauldron Curse which is a prequel novella to the series to get a little bit of background on the characters. It is an equally fantastic.

"One Poison Pie" by Lynn Cahoon is the first installment in a charming new cozy series about a kitchen witch who just moved to a new town to start over after a bad breakup with her ex. Mia Malone bought a huge old school building and is renovating it into a house and catering kitchen, with plans to sell spices and sauces, host tastings, and even hold cooking classes. After her breakup, Mia moved closer to her Grans to be near family. When the sister of her ex shows up, homeless, Mia takes Christina in with barely a question asked.

Mia's first catering gig is the birthday party for her Grans' best friend, who winds up dead the day of the party. Only on person in town actually got along with the dead woman - Mia's grandmother. Everyone else hated her, so the list of suspects in her murder is lengthy. But being the newcomer in town, the police immediately suspect Mia. She'll have to use her amateur sleuthing skills, as well as a bit of magic, to clear her name.

Though a little predictable, I did enjoy the story. There were times when I felt I was missing something - I can't tell whether this is a spinoff from another series or a brand new story, but there was a lot of backstory that was referenced that I knew nothing about.

3.5 stars

One Poison Pie is the perfect start to a brand new paranormal mystery series by Lynn Cahoon! Paranormal cozies are a subgenre I don't tend to read but I can tell this is going to change because of this book. Lynn is a wonderful writer and I enjoyed this one immensely. I can't wait for more.

A new paranormal mystery series introduces kitchen witch Mia Malone as she deals with the fallout from the murder of her grandmother’s best friend, Adele Simpson.

Mia buys the old school building in Magic Springs to house her cooking school and made-to-order meal business. Adele hires Mia to cater her birthday celebration. Then, the party decorator finds Adele dead in the ballroom the day of the event.

This well-plotted mystery includes red herrings and unexpected twists. Diverse characters and challenging situations for the primary players populate Magic Springs, while Lynn Cahoon creates a solid foundation for more captivating visits to Mia’s Morsels.
