An entertaining magic cozy mystery without a lot of magic and the magic does not affect the deduction process. The characters are engaging and there is a nice little romance developing. There is a lot of backstory referenced in the book, some of which is probably addressed in the novella, but I don’t think it all was so it feels like the reader is missing a lot even though this is the first book in the series. I could understand what was going on but it was a bit jarring.

Overall, a fun book and I would definitely read another in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a free copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Welcome To The World Of The Kitchen Witch....
Welcome to the world of the kitchen witch namely Mia Malone at her new home in Magic Springs. Mia is starting over and her new beginnings go almost immediately awry when one of her new catering business clients is discovered gruesomely murdered. To make matters worse Mia is suspect number one. Whatever next...? Enjoyable cosy mystery with a likeable protagonist and a colourful cast of supporting characters. Entertaining escapism.

What a welcome to the Kitchen Witch series! Cozy with paranormal and you've got a reader in me. Thankful to NetGalley for allowing me to read this novel. What a blast!

Love love this series. If you haven't read it yet. I suggest you. Love every series that Lynn cahoon has written and this series is 1 of my favorites. Looking forward to the 3rd book in the series.

The premise of this book sounded great. I found it difficult to engage because some of the stage had been set in a previous novella. I think that might just be my style of reading, and many could enjoy this as the first in a series or treat it as a stand-alone, like many other cozy mysteries. I look forward to reading more from this author and getting to know her characters from the ground up.

A fun cozy mystery set in the cut throat world of witchcraft and food delivery business (no pun intended!). The characters were fun and engaging, and I couldn’t wait to find out who the culprit was. A great read!

This is the first book on the Kitchen Witch series. Mia is a witch, that has just ended a relationship, and bought an old school building to turn into a cooking school and catering business. But on the morning of her first event, a birthday party for her grandmothers friend, the client is found murdered. The sheriff thinks Mia is a suspect. Then Mia is attacked and other things start to happen. While Mia tries to get her business up and running, she must also figure out who wants to harm her.

I really enjoyed this book. It held my interest from the beginning, and had just enough mystery to keep me interested. It was wonderfully written, and I loved how Mia was strong and independent. I recommend you read the novella Chili Cauldron Curse first, as it gives you an introduction into Mia, her grandmother, and the reason she’s in the town. This was a very enjoyable read.

ONE POISON PIE is the first full-length book in the brand new Kitchen Witch Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon! This charming cozy mystery features Kitchen Witch Mia Malone who has just moved to Magic Springs, Idaho, where her quirky grandmother lives. I didn’t read the novella, Chili Caldron Curse, which introduces Mia and released this past August. But, I found I was able to jump in and catch up on the characters without any issues in One Poison Pie since there’s enough backstory sprinkled throughout. While not overly paranormal since Kitchen Witches strengths are making a house a home, and bringing peace and healing to people, there is just enough magic to take it out of the realm of a regular culinary cozy. I greatly enjoyed that the author takes the reader on the journey with Mia, learning who belongs to the town’s magical community. She throws in some surprises that look to play out in future books (but aren’t cliffhangers). I also loved that Mia is super close to her grandmother and to her nasty ex-boyfriend’s troubled younger sister, who Mia’s taken in. It adds a depth of emotion to the storyline.

When her grandmother’s best friend is found murdered before the party Mia is supposed to be catering, and all clues point to Mia being the culprit, she gets involved in solving the crime to save herself and her fledgling catering business. As the plot unfolds, there are several twists I didn’t see coming… and one that isn’t typically found in cozy mysteries. I find this appealing and kept me on my toes as I tried to sift through the suspects as Mia’s sleuthing progresses. Along with the unusual plot twist, this cozy does contain mild language but nothing startling. Once the reveal started, it seemed to be a little rushed but most of the threads of the immediate crime were brought together in a cohesive story. There are a few unfinished items but there are hints that it’s to set the stage for future books.

After reading the prequel to this series, I wanted to read more about Mia, a kitchen witch and caterer. It took me a bit to get into the book since the author had to provide all of the information about the town and the characters but the second half of the book really moved and the mystery kept me guessing.

When the main character Mia bought a run-down money pit that’s going to bankrupt her just trying to keep the place warm. Welcome to Mia’s Morsels. Mia’s magic was more about the colors, the food, the process of making a home. She starts out delivering made to order dinners also catering. Mia’s grandmothers best friend is the meanest woman in MagicSprings was the dark to to her grandmother’s light. As Mia is preparing for Adel’s birthday party the decorator she hired comes in and says Adele Simpson is dead in the ballroom. Mia’s first catering gig was in jeopardy. Kitchen withes had been healers from the early days using herbs and spells to ease the pain of their neighbors. The towns people look forward to the opening. Everyone loves the idea of not having to cook. There’s talk ladies are giving away their cookware to make sure their husbands get the hint. If a total stranger thinks Mia killed Adel haw many others in the room think the same. Small towns have memories, even if the police force cleared her she’d be suspect number one until the real killer was found. John Louis Adel’s nephew had been telling William Danforth stuff that isn’t true to make Mia look guilty. The realtor just wants to get the property from her to develop more. A good read to solve the murder mystery. Lynn Cahoon is an enjoyable author and writes stories everyone will enjoy.

One Poison Pie by Lynn Cahoon was an early release copy from Netgalley. The story begins with Mia Malone painting a school room. Mia has broken up with her boyfriend Isaac and moves to Magic Springs to get a fresh start and live near her grandma. She has decided to start a new business, Mia's Morsels, a bakery. Mia and her grandmother are kitchen witches - which is more about food, colors and making a house a home. They are both healers too. Frederick, the decorator, arrived spouting, "Adele is dead." Then Mia gets attacked in her home and threatened and ends up in the hospital. With all this happening Mia begins dating Trent, who happens to save her life a few times.
I had never heard of the author or her series, but thought it looked interesting. One Poison Pie peaked my interest and I think I will try to find the rest to read. I really enjoyed Lynn Cahoon's writing.

A delicious start to a new series! A novella was previously released but this book was the first full introduction of the characters. With action starting from the start, this book has so many twists it will keep you guessing until the end. I can’t wait to read more!

A great full-length follow on from “The Chili Cauldron Curse,” “One Poison Pie” jumps right into the cozy mystery world of Mia the Kitchen Witch.

I genuinely enjoyed this read. Definitely on the “lighter” side of mystery fiction, but that is the point of cozies after all. This book delved deeper into the life of Mia, her family and friends in small-town Magic Springs and the backstory with her ex. Add in a mystery, some romantic inclinations and an undercurrent of magic? You have the recipe for my perfect series. My only critique is that I would love to see more of the magic aspect. I am curious about the mythos of magic in this world and hope to see more mystical arts in play in future books (books for which I am very excited!).

There's a lot of reason Lynn Cahoon is one of my favorite authors, and the kitchen witch series has plenty to keep you interested and coming back for more with it's fun characters. Only wish this one was longer.

I loved this book! Mia Malone has been busy getting ready to open her catering business. She has moved back to Magic Springs. Her grandmothers best friend hires her for her first job. Unfortunately the friend is murdered the night before the big party. I loved the characters in this series. Mia is a kitchen witch that heals. The paranormal aspects were done very well.

Overall, a good cozy mystery. Mia is trying to set up a catering business and the day before the first big party the woman who hired her turns up dead. A lot of red herrings, and some fun characters make for a quick read. Was confused on the magic part though, as didn't see much there except for the doll who talks to her and the ghost with cryptic messages. Still though, kept my interest throughout so would recommend. Look forward to the next in the series.

Mia Malone is so close to opening her catering business and is hosting a birthday celebration for her grandmothers best friend. When the woman is found murdered right before the big party, Mia finds the woman’s nephew pointing the finger at her.

With new friends and old to help her, Mia continues to work on the remodel of the old school she bought for her new life. Things are heating up with the owner of the local grocery store and she finds a strong pull with the man as he helps her to protect her Gran, her business, her home and her life.

I am a huge fan of Lynn Cahoon’s and while I didn’t find the novella for this series intro to be a home run, I am glad I didn’t give up as I LOVED this first full length novel. As I said in my review of the novella, it’s hard to lay a foundation in a shorter entry like that. You will fall in love with the series too, so grab a copy, settle in by a roaring fire and indulge!

This was a cute cozy featuring Mia, who is descended from a long line of kitchen witches-a bit different than your typical witch. Kitchen witch magic is more centered around making a house a home.

Mia has moved back to Magic Springs, Idaho after a breakup with a long term live in boyfriend. She is renovating an old school into a catering/made to order dinners/culinary class venue. Mia's grandmother lives there and it also home to other witches. MIa's first gig is catering a birthday party for her grandmother's best friend, and the morning of the party, she is discovered stabbed to death.

I thought the mystery was good and I didn't figure out who the murderer is. I like the characters and look forward to seeing how the romance between Mia and Trent moves forward.

My qualms with the book were that there is so much thrown in-a slimy ex-boyfriend who is after Mia's receipes and may be using his sister to get at it, a real estate developer who wanted to purchase the school and tear it down for a mall, a missing knife that reappears giftwrapped. There appear to be inconsistencies and a lot of dropped story lines. A ghost visits Mia to warn her of dark times ahead and she tells her friends she'll share the warning but she doesn't. There is discussion of a decades old murder and a secret tunnel but the tunnel is discovered but not closed off. Maybe that's setting the scene for the next book. And there is no Poison Pie :)

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley, however, the opinion expressed is my own.

I enjoyed this book. I don't understand the name as no one was poisoned. I liked the characters and the story moves nicely, without any slow spots. I hope to read more about them soon. #OnePoisonPie #NetGalley

I'm a little torn on this book. I did enjoy reading it but it felt a bit off. First off, this really should've been the second book because it wouldn't make sense to anyone who didn't read Chili Cauldron Curse (which is technically a short book 1). Dorian's posession of Mr Darcy is completely glossed over. Trent and Mia's relationship progresses from ordering steaks into a full fledged dating with no in-between. I have no idea how Mia's doll Gloria is related to her magic and what kind of magic she even has, or what kind of magic Trent and Levi have. It's a bit all over the place with no explanations and lots of assumptions.
That said, I still enjoyed reading it and the murder and suspects were really good and very cleverly written. So I'll definitely be reading future books in the series.
