A few years ago I read The Memory Watcher by the same author and was obsessed! This is a follow up of sorts as it follows one of the characters from that books years later. It’s totally fine to read on its own but TMW was fantastic so you should read that one first.

There was a lot to like about this one for me, I love the authors writing style and always find her books to be compulsive reads, this was no exception. There was such a great combination of drama and obsession in this one and I’m all about that when I’m reading a domestic thriller. Grace herself was a fascinating character with so many demons and while I wouldn’t say I loved her, she was super interesting. This one was also fairly predictable for me though, I saw where things were headed pretty early on and was a little disappointed when I realized I was right. Not a huge deal, but still wanted to mention it as I think avid thriller readers may have the same issue. I’m still a huge fan of the author and can still say I liked this, it’s just not my favorite from her.

A big thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of The Watcher Girl in exchange for an honest review. Even though this is the follow-up to The Memory Watcher (which I LOVED!!), The Watcher Girl can be perfectly read as a standalone. I love this author’s books - her writing style and the way she tells a story are very unique. However, as much as I was enjoying The Watcher Girl, it was only a couple chapters before I guessed what was going on. I just wish it was a bit more unpredictable like the first book. Nonetheless, I think many thriller fans will enjoy the ride with this one. Will be looking forward to Kent’s next book!

A quick and heart pounding read, The Watcher Girl by Minka Kent. It’s a follow up to the novel, The Memory Watcher which I haven’t read but you don’t need to read this book to enjoy The Watcher Girl.

The main character, Grace, goes home to check in on her ex, Sutton, who she believes is in trouble. Grace develops a friendship with his wife. I don’t want to give much more away because there are twists and surprises within the pages of this story!

Check it out:

Eight years ago, Grace McMullen broke Sutton Whitlock’s heart when she walked away. But it was only to save him from the baggage of her own troubled past. Now all she wants is to make sure he’s okay.

Only everything she learns about him online says otherwise. According to his social media accounts, he placed roots in her hometown, married a look-alike, and even named his daughter Grace. He clearly hasn’t moved on. In fact, it’s creepy. So Grace does what any concerned ex-girlfriend would do: she moves home…and watches him.

But when Grace crosses paths with Sutton’s wife, Campbell, an unexpected friendship develops. Campbell has no idea whom she’s inviting into her life. As the women grow closer, it becomes clear to Grace that Sutton is not the sentimental man she once knew. He seems controlling, unstable, and threatening. And what a broken man like Sutton is capable of, Grace can only imagine. It’s up to her to save Campbell and her baby now—but while she’s been watching them, who’s been watching her?

You will definitely want to read this book when it comes out on May 1.

Thank you Minka Kent for the ARC I received. I have read a few books from the author, and this one was my favorite. This book revisited characters from The Memory Watcher, and I was sucked in from the beginning. I finished the book in one sitting, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I cannot wait for more books from this author.

In this sequel we follow Grace and we get to know her more after everything that her went through in the first book. I loved the writing in this book and the pacing, It was intriguing although I guessed the final twist still I'm glad that it happened and made total sense. Im still think that one of the characters had it very easy and I would have liked seem him suffer more because I'm that kind of person. What surprised me was the depth in this story and how we tell ourselves the story of our lives and how the same events affects us all in completely different ways. The ending was very insightful for me and I wish I could still read more about some of these characters 💖

I was gifted an ARC of the Watcher Girl by the author. I have read a few of Minka Kent’s books and really enjoyed all of them. The story is told from the point of view of Grace McMullen and her goal of making sure her ex is doing ok after breaking his heart. This book started out a little slower than others by the author which are normally quite pacey. It follows Grace’s attempts at ‘accidentally’ bumping into her ex but then takes a different path. A darker picture is painted, and Grace succumbs to her instincts to find out more.

I enjoyed this book; it was really easy to read, and I enjoyed the story and the twists near the end.

This is a follow up to a previous book of Minka Kent’s called the ‘The Memory Watcher’, you do not have to have read the first book to understand or appreciate this story, I have not yet read this prequal, but I plan to.

This is a follow up to The Memory Watcher, which I haven’t read. But I don’t think you need to have read that one to enjoy this one. Enough details of that story, which took place twenty years earlier, were parceled out when you needed them. This book follows Grace, the daughter of some of the main characters of The Memory Watcher, and shows the long term effects on the family of what happened back then. But it also follows Grace in her quest to make amends for the way she treated (and left) the man she loved and her encounters with his new wife. There are twists and turns and I sped through this one trying to find out what would happen. Having read a lot of thrillers, I wasn’t positive that there wasn’t an ulterior motive in Grace seeking out her former boyfriend, but I was proven wrong. I enjoyed this book.

Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read an ARC of this upcoming novel by Minka Kent. I am a huge fan was so excited to read it ! And I was not disappointed. Grace feels the need to go home and set things from her past right. Her family is a mess. They are not close. Her mother is in jail and her father is not who she thought he was. In her quest to do the right thing she sets off a chain of events that will change lives forever. Should she have just left well enough alone ? You be the judge ! From start to finish a winner !

Another spell binding book by Minka Kent! I absolutely love this authors writing she has the ability to grab you from the very first sentence till the always exciting end of the book. This book is about Grace going back home to apologize/make amends to her ex boyfriend Sutton and find out the women he married looks just like her. Is everything as it seems or is their something much sinister going on behind closed doors? You will have to read to find out! Loved this book and love this author. Will be looking for her next book in the future. If you want a shocking thrill ride of a read then this book is for you!

I received this as an ARC from the author. I knew I was going to love it--the story rejoins a character years later from Kent's 'The Memory Watcher' which I also loved.

A woman heads back home after a long estrangement, but it's not for any of the reasons you've heard before--she's on a mission. Her ex, her first love, moved there. He bought a house, got married, and had a baby. All ordinary things, except, his wife could be her twin and his daughter has her name. In some strange way, she feels obligated to reach out, apologize for the harsh break up, and help him move on from her. It's an odd yet noble idea and it's quickly thrown out the window when she accidentally meets the wife . . . It seems rather than hanging on to lost love like a shelter puppy, he's raging against it with control and dominance.

This novel was a map of trails that twisted through the lives in Grace's life. Every new chapter held a bombshell that sent my jaw to the floor. Minka Kent is one of my favorite authors, for good reason, and this book truly proves why.

Grace is a complicated character who is cold and anti-social and yet I couldn't help but like her. I also couldn't help nuzzling myself right into her family issues. More importantly though, her new friendship. Holy crap, Campbell blew me away! Blew everyone away really. Honestly, I wish there had been more of her at the end, more insight, action. After the twist ending, everything was wrapped up perfectly. A great read that will absolutely suck you in.

I COULDN'T PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! It had me guessing the whole time! I was hooked from the very first page. Grace goes home after a long absence to check on her ex who she thinks is struggling. She soon finds herself in a friendship with his wife. She also gets to reconnect with her family. I loved that this book was also about a character from a previous book of hers! I highly recommend this book!

Now and then I meet a character that I relate to so perfectly that they get under my skin completely and I remember them forever. Grace is one of those characters. Her guilt, her hardened exterior, her perception of her own darkness and all wonderfully portrayed by Minka Kent.

This book is a true page-turner, and if domestic suspense is your thing, you should one click it right away.

The mystery unfolds, as they always do. Some things you will see coming, others not so much. THe conclusion is brilliant, and for a moment I really didn't know which way it was going to go. I hate guessing the end early on, so I really enjoyed that Kent could keep me on my toes.

So, I only have two criticisms of this book. The first is that I didn't understand why Grace was so keen on getting in on Sutton's life. I get she feels guilt over their breakup, but I also feel this could have been conveyed more strongly.

The second is that first few chapters dragged a little, introducing us to Grace, now all grown up, and give a kind of recap on what has happened since the end of The Memory Watcher. It felt a little slow, although I am an impatient reader. This didn't last long and by the beginning of chapter three; 'it's a good day for watching', I was totally sucked in.

All in all, I loved it.

If you enjoyed Minka Kent's other books, you're going to love it.
