I enjoyed this historical romance story with all of the characters. The two main characters were Cora Mackenzie and Faolan McKay.

Cora Mackenzie has been wanting on her intending to write to her. While waiting she finds happiness in riding the lands of her brother's. But while on a trip the weather get bad and she becomes lost from her group.

Faolan McKay parents had him out of wedlock. His mother and him were banished from the  laird's home. On a stormy night he see a woman that is yelling at the storm. She look to need some help.

This was a fun story to read. It has action, adventure and drama within. There were a few laughs and giggles.

Book: The Highlander’s Destiny
By Mary Wine

Series: Highland Rogues, Book # 2

Publisher: Dragonblade

Rating: 5/5 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Siren: A Fabled creature of moonlight and the sea….Something feared and yet sought by sailors as they braved the ocean and challenged fate’s unyielding mercy.

Faolan McKay mother seduced a Lairds son and got impregnated with his child. She was punished by being exiled to the rugged, craggy, shores of the highlands. However most expected she would not survive especially with a bairn in her belly. Well she defied all forces of nature and not only survived but flourished. Not only had the bairn thrived, but she raised him to be the type of man all the gossips were frightened of. Therefore, he brought the thought of pure terror and intimidation to others which was actually the best place to be!

Cora Mackenzie had been in an arranged marriage since she was a child. It was nothing more than a business arrangement, plus the fact her betrothed never even made an attempt to correspond with her not even once! Yet she needs him if there is to be peace among the clans. Cora goes to the Moors and trains her body athletically building her body and muscle in strength and in endurance, both mentally and physically. She is very competitive and is accomplished in areas she is told is not proper for a woman to attempt and that she will fail! Afterall no woman can do this, which would only make her try harder to succeed!

She must be an enchantress? Selkie? No a Siren!A fabled creature of moonlight and the sea….Something feared and yet sought by sailors as they braved the ocean and challenged fate’s unyielding mercy. Faolan was not one who believed in folklore tales or hallucinations, but seeing this incredible creature on his island just blew his mind. Yet it also pulled him to her and her to him and they were both accepting fate to be their guide at this chance encounter.

Wow! Another Mary Wine masterpiece! This book gave me chills in a great way. Yes another fast paced, action-packed, oladventure that I absolutely loved! Before the days of smart-phones and ereaders, I would go to my local Border bookstore and purchase a book, each time Mary Wine had a new release. Yes she is definitely one of my go to authors. If I am having a bad day or need an escape, a Mary Wine book is always a great solution! As I always get swept away in her brilliant imagination poured out on each and every page in her exhilarating books! I definitely recommend this entire series as it is absolutely magnificent!

Again this book has breathtaking landscapes, captivating characters, awe-inspiring dialogue and plotting that will have your pulse racing while you gasp for air. It is also filled with all the amazing elements that historical romance readers love. This is definitely a book you don’t want to miss, I already pre-ordered The Highlander’s Captive which comes out in May.

Again I absolutely and unequivocally recommend this extraordinary novel you definitely want to read.

This book was very interesting and very serious for a Highland romance story. It was good and had lots of drama, suspense, emotion and action, but there was very little humor in the story which I found a bit disappointing. It was a heavy story. I believe that it would have been better if the author had incorporated a little bit of levity into the story. Still, it was good.

Veena’s review of The Highlander’s Destiny (Highland Rogues, Book 2) by Mary Wine
Historical Romance published by Dragonblade Publishing 02 Nov 20

I enjoy Ms. Wine’s stories in Scotland because her heroines are feisty lasses who capture my imagination by taking destiny in their own hands. Cora MacKenzie is no exception. When fate finds her in the middle of a storm fighting for her life, she takes on the very elements and forges her own future. Fortunately Faolan McKay is a very likeable match to her.

Cora definitely doesn’t sit down and cry when she finds herself in a barren castle at the edge of the world peopled by warriors. She’s always resisted the feminine arts but has been taught to run a household. She takes on the dirty kitchen and produces an adequate meal, making friends of these warriors who have been exiled to the edge of their clan’s lands. When fate brings her to McKay castle and she’s found guilty by the church, she wins over the female household by taking the lashes intended for them.

Faolan is an honorable man, a bastard son of the old McKay laird, though there are rumors that his parents might have been hand fasted. His honor once made him turn down the lairdship and lost him his beloved in the process. For Cora’s safety, he’s willing to challenge his half-brother and finds himself the new laird of the McKays. However, there are people who are not happy with his appointment and he’s going to have to fight treachery and mutiny to find true happiness. Cora is definitely a force to be reckoned with and who takes all the lessons she’s been taught growing up and finally uses them to come into her own. What a fitting match she is for him.

This is an excellent stand-alone story, though I am going to go back and read the earlier book in the series. There are some strong, unmatched, handsome lairds that we met, whom I’m hoping we’ll see more of in future books in the series.

Grade: A

Mary Wine has created a great tale full of excitement, adventure, and wonderful characters and I should not forget the bad ones, also. I enjoyed Faolan and Cora’s story line in this historical romance. A great read and one to enjoy

such a fun series. I'm truely enjoying it. I love the characters and the setting. these two alpha people may butt heads but when in the highlands...

2.5 Stars.
It started out really good and i kind of felt that Cora was a good character who knew what she wanted, wasn`t shy and was a strong independent woman. I was also curious about this siren that was spoken off and i think i had hoped it would be fantasy involved with siren powers, wich it seemingly wasn`t. Cora`s character kind of... became whiny and bland? and Faolan... i had such hopes for his character based on the blurb, but i felt we didn`t get much backstory or development of his character there. sadly.. The chemistry that i felt built up in the start of 20% kind of fell off the wagon.. and bored me.

The Highlander's Destiny (Highland Rogues #2) by Mary Wine
Spirited Cora Mackenzie cannot be contained within social bounds. Her restlessness is indulged by her loving family. When she gets struck alone in the river, during a storm, she is saved by honourable Faolan McKay
Though banished  from McKay lands for no fault, Faolan McKay is moral and takes care of his people. When he sees the fairy stuck in the river, he takes care of her and promises to ensure her safe return to her brother.
They fall in love and have to work hard to stay together against all disruptions. There are so many outside effects in the story that the lead characters had less time with each other. A simple story that can be read in one go filled with romance and action.
This book is to all those who love the strong highlanders, spirited heroine, romance violence and betrayal
Thank you Netgalley and publishers form my copy

I am relatively new to this author but every book I have read by her has been excellent and this book is no exception. I laughed out loud and I even cried once. This book kept my attention from beginning to end. The twist and turns were realistic and easy to understand.

I love that the author lets us see from multiple characters points of view. I loved the characters in this book the good and the bad. Cora has an honorable strength about her and that when it is needed their is no surprise she comes out with dignity. Faolan is a strong caring man that even I fell a bit in love with. He can be a bit pushy but it's in a way that we know as the reader he is doing it because he cares deeply.

I would recommend this book to historical romance lovers who like a bit of intrigue and action with their romance.

I received a copy of this via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Mary Wine is a legend in the Scottish historical romance genre. If you want further proof, just check your local library shelves. It takes talent to land there, my fellow romance book loving friends. I can’t think of a single time I’ve been disappointed in her writing.

I’d say this book could be described in two sections. The majority was the “before” then the latter was the “after” marriage of this main couple. Faolan was the admirable, alpha protective, hardworking, good guy, destined to be laird one day hero and Cora completed that dream come true with her feistiness and determination to have a say in her own destiny. The unusual way she wound up in Faolan’s arms to begin with was proof fate was more than happy to lend a helping hand to both of them. With some classic evil, scheming, vengeful showdowns, and take downs, along with graphic steamy scenes, these two perfect for each other lovebirds survive the storms thrown at them and come out even stronger than before.

Oh, I’m keeping my fingers crossed sooner rather than later Rolfe and Cormac are both next in line to get their own sassy, leading ladies and HEAs told in this Highland Rogues series. Yeah, they were potential hero husbands for Cora, but didn’t fully realize until too late what had slipped through their fingers. Keep them coming Ms. Wine. I’ll be back for more!

Title: The Highlander’s Destiny, Series: Highland Rogues (Book 2), Author: Mary Wine, Pages: 276, pub date: 11/3/20, stand-alone but part of a series, hardworking, honorable, respectable, good guy hero, sassy but hand wringing at times, uncertain of her future heroine, virgin heroine, some violence, very graphic steamy scenes, HEA, no OW/OM drama, no cheating, no love triangle.

Cora has been waiting years for her betrothed to take interest in her but it never happened so she decided to find her own path in life and learned she could succeed in a world where women were not supposed to. Faolan was born out of wedlock and raised by his mother. When he rescues Cora on his island, sparks fly. Fast-paced read with intense chemistry, loads of drama and steam. Great characters with lots of depth and excellent world building. An entertaining read. I liked it.

"Siren. A fabled creature of moonlight and the sea.. Something feared and yet sought by sailors as they braved the ocean and challenged Fate's unyielding mercy." That is what Faolan thought as he saw Cora holding her arms up to the sky as the storm raged. Yes she was a siren and he saved her from drowning.

Through an unexpected twist of fate, Cora had ridden from her home with her father's men and gotten swept away in the storm. Having become frustrated that her long time betrothed had not called for her yet. It was one that would unite their clans...

Faolan was born out of wedlock, his father being the laird's son, but he and his mother survived. Now he meets Cora, who proves how strong and fearless she can be. But with her promised and he who he is.. what can be their future?

A fast paced journey filled with humor, intrigue, suspense and an intense attraction that cannot be denied!

I read Mary Wine's stories whenever I get the opportunity. I know I'm guaranteed an adventurous and passionate highland journey. This one is outstanding with the hero and heroine strong restless individuals. It's set during an sudden and intense storm just before winter and pushes these two people to the ends of their ropes.

Cora MacKenzie is a lonely, restless Laird's daughter ready to make her forever life and is searching to find her place in life. Mostly left to her own devices since late youth when her brother Buchanan became laird upon their dad's death. We met Buchanan in the first book of this series. She was promised by her father to Cormac Grantas a child, Cormac has shown no interest in her the last 4 years she's been eligible for marriage. Buchanan wants her to find love like he has and sends her off to meet neighbor Rolfe Munro. When they meet there's no chemistry and they both know it. On the way home she's caught in a sudden violent rainstorm, bucked off her horse and swept away by a river as she fights to survive. When she finally drags herself to shore she's miles from where she was and sees Faolan McKay on the shore. He drags her home to his lonely towers and keeps her from dying of exposure.

Faolan is the son of a handfast that didn't last. The McKay Laird went on to marry another and had his son Malcolm who is now Laird. Malcolm has banished Faolan to build a watchtower fortification for the Lairdship by the sea to protect their borders. He's there with other male outcasts and a few woman staff to care and feed them. When he finds Cora there are no women there to help and he is determined this siren from the water will survive with his help. In the morning she discovers her plight and makes herself useful so they may eat. And so begins the journey of these two passionate and determined to survive people discovering love. We follow them with twists and turns each having to make decisions that determine their fate together.

A Storm Changes Her Destiny

Caught in a storm, Cora is rescued by a most enigmatic man. Thrown together by circumstances, Cora and Faolan find themselves buffeted by intrigue, conspiracy, and danger. This is a romance, filled with adventure, plots, and twists. I recommend it to those who enjoy historical romance with a lot of action and intrigue. Cora and Faolan have quite a few challenges to overcome before they can find their happiness. Murder and mayhem are the name of the game.

Headstrong and feisty Cora Mackenzie finds herself in a terrible thunder storm where she’s swept away in the flooded river. Faolan McKay sees a young woman shaking her fist celebrating her survival of horrific thunder storm. He rescues her sees and returns to his castle where she both intrigues him and frightens him, but first he must keep her live and not freeze to death. I love Faolan and Core you can feel the passion and intensity between them. Cora knows she must marry for the better of her Clan and Faolan is everything she wants and desires. Faolan knows he has no future with Cora, he’s a bastard son of the old Laird, but that doesn’t stop the desire he feels to keep her safe and with him. Fate has a way of intervening when we least expect it! I have voluntarily read and reviewed these excellent story.
