Build Wealth with Common Stocks is a book for those with some investing experience but new to value investing. In Part 1 the author explains why value investing is the best choice and what it is all about. I will be honest that I have only dabbled in investing – very unsuccessfully – in the past and came to this book to learn more about the value method. I was a bit pig-headed at first and didn’t feel that I needed to be converted so felt that this part of the book was a bit repetitive and obvious... however, this information was what I needed as the message it hammered home was that I had it all wrong – I was doing exactly what the author was saying not to do - speculate, invest because of the fear of missing out and panic when the market took a downturn etc.
Part 2 of the book is the Strategies and Part 3 is the Practices. In my opinion the meat of the book is in Part 2... it is chock full of information. This is the part of the book that you will be ramming tons of bookmarks in to come back to. I would advise reading this book through first and then keep it on your desk to return to while you are carrying out your due diligence – there is just so much to take in, so this book should be your companion while you are investigating the quality companies that you wish to invest in. Thankfully the author has also added a handy little summary at the end of every chapter to help you recap what you have just learnt.
Not only has this book taught me so much, it has deepened my interest in the subject and also given me the confidence that I could have some success, where I had previously considered the stock market more of a game of chance.

I found this book very readable and it gives great advice on building a portfolio for long-term growth. This is about investing not about making a quick buck. Although written from a US perspective, it is relevant to other countries too.

This book by the author David J Waldron is about building wealth by investing in the stock market. The author says that An Informed individual investor has a far better chance of getting rich slowly than getting rich fast, and getting rich slowly is better than not at all.

The author lists 10 principles which exhort the user to be disciple, do not get carried away by the market sentiments , apply common sense and be prepared for the risk that any stock market can have.

While talking about strategies the author talks about defining value proposition, quantifying shareholder yields and a few more.

The author has provided a template for a model portfolio which can be used to build a portfolio with a purpose.

Overall this is a nice book and I want to explore the model portfolio more for fixing my current portfolio. Please do read if you are into the stock market. principles, strategies discussed in this book are applicable globally.
