“They say someone’s past always catches up with them. But I’m sprinting like the wind to outrun mine.” You don’t need to know whether Charlotte or Susannah thought this. It could have been either woman, both determined to keep their past a secret.

Charlotte has the perfect life. Dan, the handsome, wealthy husband, two lively boys, a gorgeous house and the staff to run it. Yes, on the surface it certainly is perfect. But underneath it all is a secret that threatens her ideal lifestyle. Susannah is new to town and her life is far from perfect. Recently divorced from her bankrupt husband, she is raising her two sons alone while counting every penny. She falls under Charlotte’s spell and the two become fast friends. There is, however, a catch. That’s Dan, the handsome husband, who seems to have a thing for Susannah. She feels the attraction. Now the question is: What will she do with it?

You’ll guess where this is going and you will be right…but then everything changes, again and again. You won’t know what really happened until the last chapter. What a read this is! Told in alternating chapters by Charlotte and Susannah, The Best of Friends is a suspenseful psychological thriller that grabs you and doesn’t let go. Excellent plotting and writing style! 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and Alex Day for this ARC.

This book started off really slow and I didn't think I was going to like it...also both main characters were such whiny bitches, they got on my last nerve and I hated them both. But then a little more than a third of the way in things started to get wickedly good and so began a game of cat and mouse...but who's the cat and who's the mouse? And what about all those crocodile tears?

The twists and turns, the lies and deceptions, are trademarks of a good thriller and this has it in spades. Very few authors draw can me into a book but the suspense, mystery and the psychological mind games were pretty awesome in this one. The author had so many false trails that there was no way I could guess what was really going on. Careful what you wish for because things can go horribly wrong.

This was an absolutely bizarre suspense thriller that kept me guessing, I was going back and forth and back again and then the big twist. This was a slow burner that had me invested towards the end and is a quick read for sure. The characters aren’t particularly likable because they are so devious, but the plot is sure to compel you to keep reading to the surprise ending.

Thrillers about friendships are always something I am eager to read, and this
story did not disappoint!

Both characters are very well written and have depth to them, which makes it even more enjoyable.

Another favorite by a great author. The plot of the story was very well written. The author really draws the reader in as you read. I felt like I was an unnamed character in the story.

I received this eBook on @netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great Domestic Thriller, I found it quite gripping and read it over 2 sittings.

It is written from the dual perspectives of Susannah and Charlotte and although the story and ending was pretty obvious, I really enjoyed it.

Having said that, I did think at a few points that I might have been wrong as i felt it eluded to a different person...

I would definitely recommend it!

The Best of Friends by Alex Day is a unique read with a second person narrative style that honestly took a bit of getting used to.

Susannah is new to the village, focused on rebuilding her life, and Charlotte has everything she doesn't, yet the two become fast friends. It seems delightful - the kids are friends, Susannah adds a new vibrancy to the community, and Charlotte has all the connections to really living local life. But as with everything else in life, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Charlotte has a secret, one that has her on edge every time the phone rings, and one that she can't tell her husband of 25years.
Susannah seems to be rebuilding because of her divorce, but that's not the only part of her past she is running from, one that seems determined to catch up to her and be broadcast of the BBC for all to see.

Who's past will catch up with them first? How will this budding new friendship survive the pressure of a life and death situation?

Overall - unusual style, decently written, and slightly twisted which out-weight the predictable twists. Worth a read, but will take a bit of work to keep the perspectives straight and adapt to the unusual style.

I'm not sure how I felt about this book. It was easy to read but the first half of the book felt very long and dragged out. I liked the way the tension was built and how we didn't know the true story until the end. Overall, I enjoyed this book and it kept me hooked until the end despite the first half not being as gripping as I would have liked.

Not for me and I’m afraid I skipped to the end as I found it a bit tedious. I think it may have been that I was expecting more of a thriller than the drama it seemed.

A bit of a predictable book. But some twists. Susannah and her children relocate to start a new life after a divorce. Charlotte and Dan are married with children and seem to be the envy of everyone. Two totally different women but have one thing in common. They are both running from a secret. Susannah and Charlotte become friends, she enjoys spending time with them both and enjoys admiring Dan's good looks. The two women try to keep their secrets lost but secrets always have a way of becoming exposed.
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.

Overall a good well written book although for me it wasn't a page turner and parts of it, for me personally, were a bit boring and dull.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins OMC for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

2.75 stars
This book had a great premise, which is what drew me to want to read this book in the first place. The chapters switched between the two main characters' povs. This made the pacing and writing a little awkward at times. The characters were not overly developed nor complex. Each of the characters had their own secrets and very unlikeable personalities. The storyline was less mystery/ thriller and more women's fiction/ drama. This book was a quick read and predictable. It read a lot like a Lifetime movie! The ending was pretty much how I thought it was going to end. Overall, I would like to read more books by this author in the future.

Another book about friendship, affairs and murder. It was hard to relate to either of these women and the storyline was boring but built up to a decent ending if you can get there.

The Best of Friends was a slow burn that was more a domestic drama than a psychological thriller. It had unlikeable characters and predictable storyline which was a bit disappointing. With all the action happening very close to the end it felt like a small reward for wading through the rest of the story. Not one that grabs you instantly but when everything happened it was quite intense and kept you interested. Not all good but not all bad either, a great weekend read.

REVENGE, UNLIKE CURRY, IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD

This is the story of the friendship between 2 very different women. Both have secrets in their past that they hide at all costs. Charlotte comes from a poor background and married a successful businessman. They have lived all over the world, mainly in Asia and the US. Their oldest sons are away at boarding school and the youngest 2 made friends with Luke and Jamie, the children of single mum Susannah. She’s from a middle-class background and is recently divorced from a man that went bankrupt. She moved from London to this village and she’s poor now. Eventually, she finds a job in the tennis club where she’s introduced by Charlotte’s very friendly husband Dan.

I could sense what was coming from the first meeting between Dan and Susannah. But man, is she stupid or what? He’s grooming her from the start with the oldest tricks in the book. She’s delusional in her attachments to the men in her life. Not only that he doesn’t make her promises whatsoever, but she builds a whole imaginary future on him. Yes, as if the wife will let that happen...

I couldn’t relate to anyone in this book, apart from the children. Both women are selfish and very materialistic. Dan is the typical adulterer who tries to blame his wife for his philandering.

There’s something iffy about this friendship from the start. What exactly, you’ll only find out at the very end. But there are subtle hints hidden all over. Charlotte’s chapters are written as if it’s a letter to Susannah. Most important in this kind of books: never assume that the narrator is reliable!

The introduction is very long and slow. The book is over half-way before something important happens. I almost gave up. Luckily, the second part is more fast-paced and offers twists and surprises galore. I find it very difficult to rate this book. The first half gets no more than a 3, but the second deserves a 4,5. A 4minus be it.

I thank Harper Collins, One More Chapter who invited me to read this title and sent a free ARC through Netgalley; this is my honest and unbiased review.

This was a decent, fast paced thriller. It was well written, with great character development, making it quite easy to read and finish. It had a few good twists and turns, some fun thrills, a bit of chills, and a shock or two. I found it to be easy, but not mind blowing. I think most who are looking for something quick and easy to read, but still a bit thrilling, will definitely enjoy this one! Do recommend this solid 3-4 star read!

Fickle friends or devious friends? Charlotte and Susannah are supposedly best friends. But who needs enemies when you have a friend like either one of them? It’s a deliciously evil read with betrayal, deception, fakery, and mayhem. Except one is just a bit smarter than the other and triumphs with better stealth and planning. I am usually more surprised about what people haven’t done than what they have done. Both women are reprehensible for what they do and premeditate. Be careful of who you let into your world because she just might be trying to take it over.

Meet Susannah and Charlotte. Susannah is new in town, after recently divorcing her husband Justin. She quickly becomes friends with Charlotte and they becomes best friends. Their children are friends, and they spend a lot of time together. But one of them has a dark past and has her share of secrets.

I enjoyed reading the alternate POV's of Charlotte and Susannah. It adds to their character development and gives us a true sense of who they are, and what they have been through in life to make them the person they are today. There are lots of twists and turns, and shocking revelations. What better than a novel that is full of shocks, lies, secrets, betrayals, and deceit. This book has it all and will have you flipping through the chapters.

The writing was good and the characters were likeable and interesting but it didn't suck me in like I was hoping it would. Would definitely give this author another go though

This book really wasn’t for me. I found it really predictable and the characters really unlikeable. It sounded like the kindness of book that I would enjoy but I figured out the story pretty early on and I was right.

Thanks to the publisher for my advanced copy of this book to read. Sorry I didn’t enjoy it.
