This was a great book and I learned so much about how different types of animals sleep! I think the illustrations are really vibrant and well done too and I think kids and adults of all ages will really enjoy this and learn at least a few things.

Snooze-O-Rama: The Strange Ways that Animals Sleep. I had the pleasure of receiving an advance copy of this fascinating look at how animals sleep while also pointing out some very distinct differences. The author did a great job of bringing out different human sleeping habits and showing similarities to the habits of some familiar animals. I was surprised repeatedly by what I saw and learned. about different species of mammals, birds, insects and reptiles. The illustrator brings out the unique personalities of sea otters, frigate birds, parrot fish, bees, orangutans, whales, the yellow-billed oxpecker, fire ants, turtles, fruit bats, walruses, meercats, African elephants and armadillos. Your child will love learning which animals, are only awake for six hours each day, which only need two hours of sleep, which sleep 250 times a day, which animal has special pouches in their throat to hold air, which builds a new nest every night and which makes their own "sleeping bag" for protection from predators. This book will be asked for repeatedly and talked about during the day. It is likely to have you researching how other
animals sleep.
The publisher notes that the book will be enjoyed by children from pre-school to grade 3, I recommend it for families to read at home for entertainment and for teachers/homeschool families to use in lessons to initiate conversations and spark curiosity.

I received and ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book is cute and educational. Birds fly while sleeping? Ants nap 250 times a day? That's super cool information.

A super cute look at how animals sleep! I loved the information at the end about why sleep is important - sometimes my kids don’t want to believe me that it’s vital. The art style was great, exactly the kind I like. My kids loved the variety of animals included, and I loved the variety of humans and families <3 There were some really cool facts that I’d never heard before, but nothing was too complicated for my 4-7 year olds.

I enjoyed this little bedtime book! It was cute and I think it would make a fine story about how animals sleep for kiddies 2-5. I loved the nice, simple, bold illustrations, too! Good job Maria Birmingham and Kyle Reed!

This is a clever bedtime read for children. Associations are made between the sleeping patterns of humans to the sleeping patterns of different animals.

On one page a statement is made about humans. On the next page a comparison is made to a specific animal and its sleeping habits. This second page includes scientific information about the species. I learned all kinds of things I didn't know before.

I appreciate that these connections are made across all kinds of animals from insects to primates.

Relationships are made to birds in the air.

Others are made to animals in the seas.

There are even parallels to animals that live underground!

I've used photoshop to show these connections as one page spreads, but in the book, the human action is shown on one side and the page is turned to see the animal example.

Kyle Read, the illustrator, works in digital and traditional collage. His colorful, detailed work will make little ones want to spend ages examining these pages.

At a time when we are facing extinction rates at an increasing rate, books like this help to bridge the gap between humans and the rest of the planet.
I've added this to my list of potential birthday gift from my older grandkids who will be turning four this June.

Snooze-O-Rama is a beautifully illustrated children’s book filled with interesting and new animal sleep facts! Who knew that some birds take multiple 10 second naps during flight? Certainly not me! The facts are engaging and the illustrations are just oh so vivid!
