A written crime novel with interesting characters and a fast paced plot. From around halfway through, when the DNA results came back it was obvious who the killer was though.
While an enjoyable read the current writing trend for the central police characters becoming victims is for me getting tiresome and I wish authors would stop putting their characters in the firing line.
Overall a decent read and I look forward to seeing what happens in the next instalment.

Detective Morgan her boss Ben and colleagues are tasked to find out who will murder a young woman name Gabrielle who like to be called Gabby.

I really enjoy reading this mystery the story was well written that I could easily follow and not get lost as Morgan and company tries to find the killer a another murder happens and when the killer taunts the police they afraid one of their own might be in danger.

I like character of Morgan she maybe young and finding her self but I like that she thinks outside the box how she say what on her mind even though her colleagues doesn’t want to see her point of view because it means their town can attraction killers. I like that we get more insight into Morgan life as she tries bring the victims killer to justices as she deals with things happening in her life that might turn her world upside down. I love all characters and I like the friendship between Morgan and Ben but I really hope it stays platonic. I just like to see her established her career before she have romance and is it wrong that I wish falls for a woman.

I love this author the writing is well written and can’t wait for the next book in this series.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Detective Morgan Brooks has seen some ugly things in her career, but the attack and murder of a young mother in her own home with her young daughter as witness, tops them all. DNA at the scene matches a man already in prison, where he’s been for the last 20 years. Another DNA match comes back to Morgan herself, who must face the fact that she may somehow be connected to this case. As she investigates a spate of twenty year old crimes, will Morgan be to preoccupied to see the present day killer as he gets ever closer? Phifer has some great storylines, but her dialogue and pacing are just a little off, making this a pleasant, but not compelling, read

Loved this book! It was pretty clear where the story was heading from about 40% in and I had 2 characters in mind for who the brother was. Cannot wait for book 3!

A gripping read with a killer twist. I really did not see that one coming. I love the characters in this book and their interaction is great. It's refreshing to read a police procedural where the cops actually get on and the senior officers are not trying to get rid of the main character. I look forward to reading more about Morgan, Ben, Amy et al soon.

this book was pretty good, interesting but i would have liked it much better if it had more emotional context with the mystery. and yes there were so many coincidences but aside from that. the main character, given all that she found out would have reacted differently

This is the second book starring Detective Morgan Brookes. Morgan and her boss are called to a home where the body of a young woman called Gabby had been found tied to her bed. As Morgan and the team starts to investigate the case seems to be more closely linked to Morgan than anyone would believe.
This is a great second book to this new series and I loved the teaser at the end for book three. The characters are developing as are their relationships with each other.
Can’t wait for book three.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow oh wow!! This book is definitely my absolute favourite of Helen's yet! I have been taken completely on a rollercoaster and this has been utterly impossible to put down.
I love Helen's books anyway, they have all been five star reads and this one is absolutely no different! However, this is definitely my absolute favourite. Helen has thrown in twists and turns that I have been completely unable to predict.
I adore Morgan, she's so likeable and realistic. I'm so glad we got to revisit her in this book. Still, we know she attracts trouble and this is no different. However, we do develop a more unique depth knowledge of Morgan in this book and I'll be honest, I want to give her a big cwtch.
I love this cover, it's enough to catch your eye and make you want to read this book. I've definitely been on a rollercoaster journey reading this one. The ending, I actually can't believe it ended where it did! I absolutely need more and hope it means there's more to come from these characters.
Another absolutely fantastic read by a truly fabulous author. A definite five star read.
