This is such a great book! The plot is hidden behind so many layers and it’s an amazing pleasure to unwrap it little by little.
I was gasping with shock when I started to realise what was going on. I am giving myself a pat on the shoulder for getting part of it before it was revealed and I applaud the author for her brilliant mind, because that’s what is certainly behind this story. Did I mind that I figured some of it out beforehand? No, not in the slightest. It can only mean that great minds think alike LOL (just joking. I would never be able to write such a masterpiece)
I love Megan, I love the series and I think the author still has a lot up her sleeve to keep the thriller fans entertained. I, for sure, am counting the days. The moment when the next book will be released can not come fast enough. 5 big stars.

Would have been 4 stars but I found I didn’t like the writers style as much in places. Fairly easy read though with a good plot and characters who were likeable.

Story of a murder and the police investigation and it was in the uk which I always like!

As a read it won’t change your world or make you think new things etc but was a good and entertaining read!

Mediocre thriller that felt as though it was a fanfic written by a teenage girl having an American Horror Story phase- thought the plot had potential but it fell flat as did the characters and their dumb witted senses

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Killer’s Girl, the second novel to feature detective Morgan Brookes, set in the Lake District.

When a woman is found murdered in her bed Morgan and her boss Ben swing into action but things go wrong when DNA found at the scene links a killer behind bars to Morgan.

The Killer’s Girl is a mixed bag of a decent plot line and a horrendous muddle over DNA science that put me off. The pathologist finds a close but not exact match in the DNA to Morgan who then comes under suspicion, despite having an alibi. This is sloppy as DNA techniques are sophisticated and knowledge about them widespread. A close but not exact match suggests a familial link and this is used extensively by police forces across the world. Secondly DNA can easily supply the sex of the sample. Why not just discuss it with her? I struggled to pick the novel up again after this.

Otherwise the novel is a standard hunt the killer novel. There is tension, more death and a whole load of Morgan’s history. It is told mostly from Morgan’s point of view with a few chapters describing the unnamed killer’s actions and thoughts although motivation is elusive.

I found The Killer’s Girl annoying as a read but It ticks many boxes in the genre.

When detective Morgan Brookes is called to the murder of a local village girl, this case gets too close to home and soon Morgan and the team are closing in on the killer. Things will not be smooth sailing as Morgan seems to attract danger to easily.
Without a doubt this was a superb sequel to One left alive. The characters are likeable and the story unfolds their backgrounds more and I can’t wait for book three. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exhange for my honest review.

As a massive fan of Helens I devoured this book within several hours….Yet again she had me griped from the start of this book, love how it followed on from the previous one with the same characters that we already know. As always, very descriptive and well written. I have visions of what the characters look like and its almost as if I am watching it and cannot understand why these books have not been made into a tv series as I for one would love to see them played out on a big screen. Had my suspicions about the culprit in the first of the Morgan books, but as I know Helen always throws a curve ball into the mix I discounted him as just a ‘nice guy’….how wrong was I. Hope to hear that this series of books are going to continue and how good would it be if Morgan could work with Annie , (please say yes Helen :)) Recommend this and all of Helens other titles to anyone that loves to read not just thrillers but any genre. and you would not be disappointed .

DNA retrieved from the crime scene matches up with someone that has spent the last twenty year in prison. When a close match to Morgan’s DNA turns up at another murder scene, she comes under suspicion. Can Ben and Morgan discover what is going on before it's too late?

A great follow up to the first book. Plenty of twists and turns along the way and a good ending. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I am a fan of Helen Phifer’s novels including the first in the series of Detective Constable Morgan Brookes. This is another brilliant read and can easily be read as a stand-alone.

The story opens with a dead woman, tied and strangled on her bed. She lives with her parents but they are on holiday and return to find the scene some days later. DC Morgan Brookes is horrified by what she sees but as soon as the DNA is returned there are more questions than answers as it appears that the killer has been behind bars for several years.

Morgan is a feisty, clever and fearless character and has an interesting relationship with her boss, DS Ben Matthews, which could become romantic.

As the twists and turns weaved their way through the storyline I was unable to put it down.

Great read and highly recommended.

While this was the second book in a series it did take me a minute to catch up. But when I did the pages just flew.

This is the second book in the D.C. Morgan Brookes Series, and having loved the first one so much, had a high standard to keep up and I have to say it surpassed my expectations and came out with flying colours.

The book opens with a Murder victim found tied to her bed whilst her parents are on holiday. However DNA evidence quickly identifies a killer. Just one problem, that killer is doing time in Strangeways and cannot have committed the murder! The best of all alibis. The question is how do you explain the DNA and can they find the real killer before things escalate.

This book has a great storyline and is so engagingly written that I just didn’t want to put it down. Throughout the book we find Morgan trying to deal with her past and things become all too personal for Morgan and she finds some home truths that rock her very Foundation! Morgan shows herself to be a great character and Helen Phifer to be an excellent writer.

At 50% I felt I had worked things out but didn’t know who the killer was, but definitely didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book. At 75% I thought I’d worked out the killer. At 95% the author rocked my theory with a great twist that I just didn’t see coming. The ending does set up for future books in the series.

This is an excellent book that I can’t recommend highly enough. Just one problem I’ve got a long wait for the next one. If you like good mystery and crime books give this series a go, sure you won’t regret it!

Initially I got a bit confused as this was the second book in the series so I was coming in cold but I soon got engrossed in the story and wanted to find out what happened.
There were lots of signposts to the resolution but the best bit was working out how it was getting there, that I really enjoyed.
I would have liked more information on why the killer did why he did, it was sort of open ended and that would be my only critcism.

I now do want to read more books by this author especially the first one in this series.

Oh my what can I say about this book?
What a story, Janet Marks gets a chill reading the front page of the Cumbrian News, Riverside rapist strikes again, knowing now that her husband Gary is cheating on her she also knows now that he is the rapist and wants him gone, she has two babies to think about Skye and Taylor. but its not that simple and when Gary returns home its a bloody end for Janet.
Rydal Falls Park Avenue and Gabrielle Stevens heads home, her parents are living it up in Madrid when she receives a mystery text, 'Are you home' it has to be a wrong number, once in the house she knows someone is there the house is so tidy and clean but its not her parents home early, a man standing there and its a fight for her life.
D.C. Morgan Brookes and Sergeant Ben Matthews are called out by the parents their daughter is dead and looks like a murder, her decomposing body has been there three days, the poor girls parents are frantic and its up to these two to find the killer fast before he strikes again.
DNA tests tell another story.
This book has so many plots along the way and they certainly involve Morgan, with connections that will grip you, its will certainly without a doubt shake the readers, and I loved this book two in the series. excellent reads both of them

Can Detective Morgan Brookes get into any more trouble if she tried? Once again,in the second book in this series, she is right in the thick of it! I'm really enjoying this new series featuring Detective Morgan Brookes. This book was a lot better than the first. I can't wait to see what she gets up to in book three.

have just finished this and still in shock you thought book one was good you wait till you read this .Gabrielle Stevens is found murdered . her parents come home off holiday and find her Detective Morgan Brookes and Sergeant Ben Matthews and there team are called to the crime scene .Morgan is building a relationship with her father .the killer has took the victims mobile and sending texts to Morgan she is not safe in her home i not saying no more but Morgan is in for a very big shock this is so so good so recommend this author but read book 1 first

She did it again! An excellent sequel to the first book in the series! My expectations were high, and Helen Phifer did not disappoint me. I think I like this one even more than the first book in the series. The main reason is that we, and Morgan herself, find out about Morgan’s past.

I like the premises, the characters, and the plot. When the detective, the main protagonist, is personally heavily involved in a case, it’s hard to go wrong. I feel like it’s personal, even though I don’t know the detective myself, and the fact that she is indeed fictional. I have really grown to like young Morgan, with her quirks and dark background.

I did figure out who the killer was, but not too early on, so it didn’t bother me. I enjoy getting to know all the characters at Morgan’s work, and I was happy to see that Ettie was part of this book as well, Highly recommended! I really can’t wait to get my hands on the third book in the series.

Honestly, slightly disappointed with this one. I had it figured out way before the half-way mark. Parts of it fell kind of flat for me and I found myself skimming paragraphs here and there. Quick read.

I did like the ending and am curious how it will play out in the next book. This is a series I will continue reading and would recommend. Definitely should be read in order.

This was awesome. I loved this ones characters.
This book is full of twists and turns.

Yet another absolutely cracking read from Helen. She is one of my favourite authors so I had high expectations ..... this book did not disappoint. Twisty and thrilling, dark and dangerous, I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. I was glued to the pages, loved it. It was bloody brilliant and well worth 5 stars.
