I liked this a lot more than book 1. I still found some things were lacking in terms of characters learning their dang lesson (not me screaming at them to stop going into danger alone every other chapter), but I found I really enjoyed Brigon and getting into the groove of the found family we made in Blood Heir.

I found Linn gave Toph vibes, and Sorcha gave Azula energy. Both characters were great additions to the cast, I loved seeing more of Linn after her introduction at the end of Blood Heir. I did find Linn's devotion to Ana a bit strong for what transpired in Blood Heir, but past that, she's a strong character. I didn't think I'd read the final installment halfway through, but now I'm so curious about our three MCs as we reach the finale of the series.

This installment had a better and stronger climax than Blood Heir, and I found myself rooting for the characters more than rubbing my temples in frustration. Definitely didn't suffer from second book syndrome! I'm also glad that we tied up some storylines in this one, thus setting the stage for Crimson Reign.

All in all, a strong sequel, and a great setup for the finale of the series! I'm really loving the crew we've put together and I'm excited to see how their story ends.

TW: blood, murder, injury detail, torture, alcohol consumption, violence, child abuse, fire/fire injury, death; mentions infidelity, death of a parent, death of a child, kidnapping

Red Tigress is full of action, betrayal, heartbreak, and I LOVED IT. The plot was engaging and I never wanted to put it down. I love it when the second book is better than the first. Amelie Zhao delivered with Red Tigress.

I absolutely loved the first book in the series but I wasn't much of a fan with this one. I am not sure I will continue the rest of the series.

The sequel to Blood Heir did not disappoint as we were able to see the story, characters, and author develop. I cannot wait to see how this story plays out in the third installment.

I love this book. This was the perfect sequel. There is so much growth in the writer and the world that it is truly more enjoyable then the first book.

I read this book a while ago and am now just getting to reviewing it. I found this book enjoyable but I did not find myself as intrigued when compared to the first book. Despite this, I was still wanting to find out what happened next and see how the story would end.

I loved being back in this world so much. This book was such a great second installment in this trilogy. It was filled with action and heartbreaking moments. I love Ana and all that she is. I also love how in this one we get the point of views from a lot more characters. We get to see everything each character goes through and it makes the story well rounded. The ending of this one was insane and I can't wait to see how everything will conclude in the final book.

I absolutely ADORE Ms. Zhao's writing! This series is captivating, and hits all the right emotions. Following along with our MC, we find out more secrets, and some enticing answers. Personally cannot wait for the remainder of this series! A very well deserved 5 star rating!

I am enjoying this series a lot more than I anticipated. With a strong first book, second books can either be a hit or a miss. Luckily this was a huge hit for me. After all the revelations made from the first book, the second one amps up the stakes. Alliances made in the first book are broken but new ones are forged. I thought this plot was just as engaging and stressful but it was more personal. Since the characters had been developed, the story could really shine through. I thought that the writing was much improved as well showing a more concise plot and not so much back and forth. There were some twists I didn't see coming and I really enjoyed those moments! This was definitely a fantastic second installment and getting ready for the finale.

Oh the character growth in this book was so much better. My biggest struggle with Ana in the first book was her back and forth on her blood magic. In this one, it wasn't as relevant and really focused on her as a person more - which I loved! And then when her magic did come into play, it was in moments that made sense and she embarrassed it. Ramson had some growth as well but I don't think as much as the first book. Regardless I still love his character. A third point of view was added into this book and I enjoyed it. I thought Linn was a fantastic edition. The only thing that was a bit disappointing is the new "villain". I honestly didn't care for this character much at all and hopefully they'll be eliminated early in the third book (but probably not).

Overall, Red Tigress by Amélie Wen Zhao was a great second installment. I enjoyed it much more than the first book with it's new adventure and more dangerous plot lines. The writing seemed much more advanced and cohesive which really helped the plot and pacing of this book. Ana had a lot more focus on her character rather than her magic and I really enjoyed that. Ramson didn't have much more development than the first book but he's still a fantastic character. Then the addition of Linn was great and I thoroughly enjoyed learning her character more. If you enjoyed the first book then I highly recommend picking this one up as it is definitely an improvement of the series.

Yes I know why try a book where you DNFed book one? Well I am a stickler for punishment and I always try to give authors another try. So this one did a little better than book one. I will say that it picked up a smidge but it still lacked that overall arc that we usually see in books. Towards the middle it kind of fizzed out and just got boring. I think that this author is working towards finding her jam since this is only her second book. So I look forward to her further stories.

I was glad to see that Red Tigress had more points of view than Blood Heir. I liked that this book felt more plot driven than the first one but my only complaint is how much development, plot and character, happened off page. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the plot twists and will definitely be reading the next book.

Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc.

I love this story soooo much. I never knew I was a fan of Anastasia retellings until I picked up the first book in this series. I love the MC and her love interest. The author has a unique writing style that just pulls you in and you feel like you are living the story in real time with the characters. Thank you Netgalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was just fine. I remember that the first one needed some major edits and I had read that original. It seems like a typical story, definitely with some shadow and bone vibes.

Thank you for the chance to read this early

I really enjoyed Blood Heir so was so excited to read this sequel. It was easy for me to get back into this world and the characters. The pacing was fast, and I really enjoyed the first half. Things got a bit slower for me in the second half and the villain was a little ...cliche? The villain's mannerisms were a bit cartoonish to me. I will read the final of the trilogy and overall, I did enjoy this book just not as well as the first.

It had been awhile since I read book 1, and there is no great 'catch up' for people like me. So in the beginning I was a little confused and had to look back to see what was going on. After that, this book was amazing.

I would like to first thank both NetGalley and Random House for allowing me to read and review this book. Sorry it took me so long to do so.

Good Reads Synopsis:

Ana Mikhailov is the only surviving member of the royal family of Cyrilia. She has no army, no title, and no allies, and now she must find a way to take back the throne or risk the brutal retribution of the empress. Morganya is determined to establish a new world order on the spilled blood of non-Affinites. Ana is certain that Morganya won’t stop until she kills them all.

Ana’s only chance at navigating the dangerous world of her homeland means partnering with Ramson Quicktongue again. But the cunning crime lord has schemes of his own. For Ana to find an army, they must cross the Whitewaves to the impenetrable stone forts of Bregon. Only, no one can be certain what they will find there.

A dark power has risen. Will revolution bring peace–or will it only paint the streets in more blood.

Book Review:

I wasn’t a fan of this book. I only gave it 3 stars. This is the second book in the Blood Heir Trilogy.

This book does place where it left off in the first book. Ana is the last surviving member of her royal family. There is a war going on and she doesn’t have an army, title or allies to help her. She has to figure out how to take back her throne. She doesn’t know the area very well and navigating is hard. She must rely on a crime lord to help her. This crime lord has his own agenda for helping her. Will she accomplish what she has set out to do? Will there be a war and if so will it work?

I am interested enough to read the third and final book. I need to know what happens and if the two will come together.

A great continuation of the series! I am still in love with the magic system and the characters. I highly recommend the books to anyone that enjoys magic and strong females.

To be honest, I wasn't terribly thrilled with Blood Heir the first installment of the trilogy, but it had enough potential I needed to see where the series went. Plus, there were quite a few great reviews that made it seem like this sequel would be a better fit for me. I'm glad I decided to come back for Red Tigress because it takes the best part of its predecessor and turns them up while clearing up some of my issues with details of characterization and world-building. I can easily say that I preferred this to book one. There's a lot of great action and we get to see a good deal more of the world and meet some brand new characters.
