Enjoyed reading about the business acumen of Jack Haley. Many interesting points regarding finding opportunities. imagine bundling fewer boxes so that the big ride could be made.

If you have live dor played by a railroad, you can feel the pull of a vanishing train...

1. Always Listen to the Whistle
2. Before radio technology on trains, communication was done through human voice, hand signals, flagging or using a lantern to convey messages at night. Why flags? Your vision is better than the doppler effect loss of your voice. Augmenting voice with whistle. The chain that needs to be pulled in a train or bus.

3. Technology first then sticks and carrots. But here Pacific Railroad car first and then technology. Faster diesel ones, fewer service downtime, mechanized quipment for train track, automated switchboards upto 100 miles away.

You get to see many gems of this transitioning industry and its success.
