I was very excited about this book when i received my ARC. I have really enjoyed the recent Christina Lauren books I've read and this one was about genetics! I couldn't wait to dive in. While I enjoyed it, it just didn't have me as "hooked" as their previous works. I loved the relationship between River and Jess but i really fell in love with the relationship between Juno and River and the relationship between Fizzy and Jess. I am not sure if it was because the relationship was so predictable or it felt rushed, but it just felt secondary to the secondary relationships. Still, all in all between the laugh out loud science puns and the beautifully developed characters, fans are going to fall in love with this book just like they did in all of Christina Lauren's previous books.

Christina Lauren reads are always such a delight, but the pair's last few books haven't quite left this full effect on me. I prefer their more serious / "rom-dram" storylines over the ones that are strictly rom-coms because their more lighthearted stories always feel a little less organized and fulfilling to me. So after a couple of releases that weren't home runs for me, I was pleased that "The Soulmate Equation" fit the bill perfectly. The love interest is delicious, and the heroine's backstory and internal conflicts complimented each other well. There were even some laugh-out-loud moments that are classic CLo quality. Definitely a recommended read!

Christina Lauren does it again! A romance with incredible dialogue, a super interesting new premise and a main character that is easily identifiable. Meet Jess, single mom to an adorable 7 year-old daughter. Jess makes a living as a freelance statistician, raises her child, lives near her grandparents that took her in at a young age after her addicted mom couldn’t quite cut it. Jess’ best friend, Fizzy, has the ability to charm Jess into any situation. Which is how they find themselves providing their saliva for a new dating app that matches pairs based on their DNA. Jess is beyond skeptical, particularly when it turns out she matches at an unheard of level with the grumpy founder of the company, River. At the urging of the entire company, Jess is lured by money and agrees to give River a chance. Suddenly Jess’ life is filled with interviews, dinner parties and surprisingly enjoyable-companionship. I stayed up late and woke up early to devour this novel. The characters are so relatable and enjoyable that I was instantly deep into their world. The SoulMate Equation was a 5 star review for me. It’s May release date is perfect for summer reading! I look forward to many animated discussions with friends over the underlying complexity of Jess’ story and the idea that fate can be determined by DNA.

A sincere thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I haven’t enjoyed a Christina Lauren book this much since The Unhoneymooners. Take two science-minded introverts who don’t like each other and force them into a fake dating situation...and you get Jess and River. The relationship was so cute and the DNA premise was interesting. I liked Jess’ grandparents and daughter as well. A solid romance with depth. *ARC provided by NetGalley for review.

I was so excited when this popped up on my @netgalley shelf! This sounds like it would be right up my alley, two nerds falling in love, what's not to like? I have to be brutally honest here, the beginning was SO BORING. It was a mixture of way too much background information and the main character, River, was truly despicable. Once this story kicked up, it really kicked. Embarrassingly, I stayed up until 4am reading this book and I regret nothing. It was such a pure love story there was nothing to deny. I loved that Jess and River just didn't like each other from the start. River was such a cute nerd, but Jess really is the character that captured my heart. Following the story of a single mom finding love, was such an important story to tell. I could see this being very eye-opening to many moms out there. This is such a unique take on the regular "I hate you because I love you" premise. I thought this story was so genius and modern. This definitely brought romance novels into 2021 for me. Especially in a post COVID world, I would love to have an app like this!! Thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Books for the early copy!!

This was unique, fun, and steamy!
I think this book has a great set of side characters. Fizzy, Juno, Nana, and Pops were all very likeable and felt needed in the story (minus Jamie...).
It definitely felt less romantic than most of Christina Lauren’s book, but the love is based on science, so I guess that makes sense.
I loved that they had similar interests, but when they would get into specifics about stats and genetics, I did zone out.
I wasn’t really convinced of their romance until the very very end.
The whole conflict between them felt unrealistic, and mostly ridiculous. At least one character’s response to it.
It wasn’t bad by any means, but I expected more.
It was certainly a fun ride, but it didn’t get me in my feels like I wanted.

This was an adorable, fun romance set in a world of both dating apps and science.

Statistician Jess doesn't thing she'll ever have any luck dating, but when her best friend convinces her to try a DNA dating app created by a hot coffee shop regular, River, Jess agrees. Soon sparks fly as the app matches the two.

A single mom, Jess worries about how much River really feels for her, and how much she really feels for him.

The book was cute and the main character, her family, and the romance were a lot of fun.

I love Christina Lauren, and I LOVED this book. It is just the perfect nerdy romance. Jess and River are great characters, and the buildup worked really well for me. I couldn't stop reading! There is a tiny part at the end I didn't love, but this book is still a solid 5 star romance for me. I'm sad it's over, and I wish I could spend more time with these characters.

Quirky and charismatic, this happy page turner was filled with delightful characters. We all need a Fizzy in our lives, that colorful best friend who pushes us outside our comfort zone and makes the world sparkle.

Christina Lauren will make you fall in love with her characters while your side is splitting from laughter. This just may be her best yet. Thankful to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this title.

I will read anything by Christina Lauren!! I devoured The Soulmate Equation!!!
This novel introduces a new company, GeneticAlly, a DNA based matchmaking company. When single mom Jess, begrudgingly submits her sample DNA to see if her soulmate exists, she is skeptical, to say the least. Then when she learns that she has an extremely high match with the gruff, unfriendly, founder, she has even more distaste for the company. But are Jess and Dr. River Pena actually meant to be? A modern love story that is impossible to put down!

I was so excited to read this especially when I had read In a Holidaze not too long ago! Jess Davis is a single mom & a data/statistics genius, she is quite nervous to jump into the dating scene. Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a DNA based matchmaking company. It claims the probability of finding a soulmate is high! Perfect this is something Jess can get behind! She is matched with the founder, Dr. River Pena. Of course she is lol! Dr. Pena is a stuck up snob, not her soulmate! This was so fun to read and I always love a good enemies to lovers trope, definitely a beachy read! Thank you to Netgalley, Gallery Books, and the authors for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.

My reviews are on Goodreads, BookBub, and Instagram.

I sat down to read this and finished it in one sitting and I'm still thinking about it. The Soulmate Equation features Jessica Davis, a single mom who feels like she's just pretty much going through the motions without really living her life. In the beginning, she has lost her biggest client and has been having financial struggles while feeling like she never has time to live her own life. Her life gets thrown off course when she is talked into using a genetic dating app and ends up with a crazy-high match with her coffee shop nemesis, who is also the app's founder. I don't want to reveal how this ends up, but trust me- if you need something to lift you up and pull from a funk- this is the one. Delightful book!

Very interesting premise. I liked the main characters and even liked them together, but instead of their connection developing it felt like it went from nothing to real feelings in two seconds flat. Really enjoyed the side characters and the world that was built around Jess and how Jess had some harshly realistic problems in her family life.

My favorite Christina Lauren is still In a Holidaze, but I enjoyed this a lot more than The Honey Don't List and Twice in a Blue Moon (which I DNF-ed). Probably on par with Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating, but this probably wins second place.

I can't decide if this is a bug or a feature, but I find that often with CL's books I care more about the other storylines more than the romance. I think it's a positive because it demonstrates how well-developed the side characters etc. are.

I am officially a Christina Lauren convert! This is my second Christina Lauren novel after the holiday, and I have already put a few more of their books on hold at the local library. The soulmate equation is about Jess, a single mom to the humorous Juno, and what happens when she decides to try a brand new matchmaking service called Genetic Ally, which matches a couple's DNA to see if they are a match. Jess is 98% matched with the company's owner Dr. River Pena who she refers to as Americano, ever morning at the coffee shop. The couple seems like a mismatch, but their chemistry is fire on the page. Not only does the storyline hook the reader into the text, but the cast of characters, Fizzy, Juno, and Jess' grandparents, had me laughing and sometimes crying. Excellent novel, and I will definitely recommend it!! Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC

I always enjoy Christina Lauren. I always describe the author's books as Hallmark movies with more adult themes, and this one fit right in that general category. I admire writers of romantic fiction who can take the standard formula, and still make it a unique and interesting story.

Single mom Jess has all but given up on having her own love life as she is too busy taking care of everyone else. On a whim instigated by her delightful friend Fizzy, she finds herself providing her DNA for a new dating site with a twist. Much to her surprise, she gets an off the charts match with the head of the company itself. What follows is the couple's journey as they seek to find out if love is written in our genes.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for something light and fun that will leave you filling good. The Soulmate Equation definitely fits that bill!

I love all CL books, but this is by far my new favorite. The pure chemistry between River and Jess is hot enough to melt an iceberg! The side characters are amazing and add to the story, too. Will we get a Fizzy story? Fingers crossed!

This is so far my favorite book from Christine Lauren at this point in time. I've read a handful of their work and this one by far has exceeded the others. I loved the concept of meeting not just a soulmate through a DNA matching program but also having an array of matches at various levels of compatibility. I was enamored with River Pena in this story and I loved Jess and Fizzy's friendship. I could easily imagine this turned into a romcom and am still thinking about the storyline days after finishing. I think when you can think back on a story as if it were a memory then it was a fantastic one and this one fits the bill!

Christina Lauren deliver on another sweet romance with their trademark humor. I am not an expert on genetics, so can't attest to whether any of the science in the book is at all accurate, but the concept of finding your soulmate based on DNA compatibility seemed like a novel concept amongst the, often times disappointing, world of online dating. The main character, Jess, is a single mom trying to balance the demands of raising her daughter and supporting her family financially. Alongside Jess is a fun set of secondary characters - her best friend, Fizzy, was both supportive and hilarious, making her probably one of my favorite Christina Lauren characters to-date. The romance that developed between Jess and River was also really heartwarming, though some of the fade-to-black scenes were a little bit awkward to read.

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren concerns the DNA based matching of the single mom Jess and the dating service’s creator, Dr. Peña. While The Soulmate Equation was a fast paced and fun read, this was heavier than other Christina Lauren novels. As such it was also a lot more open- door. I highly enjoyed this book, but fair warning.
