This was a funny book! A little quirky story that has characters that charm you. Just when I was wondering about the ethical questions that her job raised, she raised them too. It made me want to read more to find out if her point of view changed or not. I really did like the characters and long to be in the book cheering them on!

This was fun - workplace enemies-to-lovers romcom, revenge, spiciness, and a well developed protagonist in Brinkley. It's a super fast-paced book which is just what I like in my romances. However, the sex scenes are explicit and the book makes revenge into a business, so depending on the type of reader you are you may not like those aspects of it. I however, am a morally grey reader (and person) so therefore - I was here for it - but tread carefully if these things make you uncomfortable.

This is a really interesting premise for a book. I liked it but didn’t feel like the characters were as developed as they could have been and I would have liked to know everyone a bit more. I would have preferred to not have the drama with the parents and the business aspect seemed rushed towards the end. It was a great airplane read for me and I enjoyed it!

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

DNF.

This book isn't for me. I thought I would love it. The premise felt very promising, but at the end of the day, I just can't continue on with characters I just don't like. I'm not against morally gray characters, actually I tend to love them...but they are usually endearing or have a beautiful back story that gives them a certain amount of purpose. But in the end, the idea of revenge in the form of taking money from people to hurt other people (or for that matter RUIN them)...well, it's just not endearing. There's a lot of predator vibes in this one that I just don't jive with. And I don't like the characters, their actions, or what they are doing.

Maybe this becomes more of a rom or a com later in the book, but from what I've read this more of a story of predators and victims.

Thank you netgalley for the advance copy.

From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint.

Brinkley is a talented young artist who is still struggling with a bad breakup and the disappointment of her mother after she leaves her graduate school program. She is working on rebuilding herself through her unorthodox employment at H4H, a revenge service.

Mark is a "mark" turned co-worker turned partner in crime when Brinkley's boss decides to expand the operation to include male heartbreakers.

What could possibly go wrong??

There were parts of this book I really enjoyed --- I even laughed out loud during some of the jobs Brinkley + Mark had to complete. I loved Brinkley's character arc and how she started to take steps in advancing her life and art career, even though she didn't feel "ready." I loved the slow realization that the best revenge is a life well-lived. But the relationship between her and Mark didn't have the steam I hoped it would! I feel like they would have made better friends than a couple.

Overall, this book was a light beach read that I would recommend picking up when you need something fun!

After a terrible breakup, Brinkley Saunders is recruited to work for Heartbreak For Hire - a company where women pay for other women, known as heartbreakers, to exact their revenge against a man who has wronged them. She works in the Ego department, taking jerks, usually coworkers. down a peg by orchestrating situations to expose them publicly. Brinkley uses this as a form of therapy after being crushed by an "ego" in her own life. In these setups, she's always the one in control. After she breaks the cardinal rule of not getting involved with one of these egotistical men, Brinkley's whole world starts to unravel. But he might not be the ego she pegged him for.

The book starts really strong, quickly introducing us to Brinkley and her world. The plot is quite fast-paced but to the detriment of character development. There aren't too many characters, but somehow none of them feel developed enough and I certainly felt no great connection between Brinkley and her former mark, Mark beyond the physical. I think if the author had pared certain elements down a bit, she could have focused more on developing that central relationship and it wouldn't have felt so rushed and cluttered.

Beyond the pacing issues, a lot of these characters were pretty horrible. I definitely wanted some comeuppance for the owner of H4H. She was incredibly emotionally abusive but while that was acknowledged, it was never followed up on. I also struggled with Brinkley's mother, who was manipulative at another level. She did a lot of repeated damage to her only child, but after one pathetic apology, their relationship was BOOM fixed. All of these characters need extensive therapy. All of them.

At the end of the day, the story didn't overcome any of these flaws (and more that I didn't call out) enough for me to overlook them and enjoy the greater narrative. Things moved too fast and I found myself not understanding conversations like they had some short form I hadn't learned yet. Good luck to Piper and Mark in the future, 'cause they'll need it!

Really enjoyed this fun, sexy romance novel! The characters were easy to love and their chemistry was totally believable. Perfect for anyone who loves an enemies to lovers trope!

I really enjoyed this fun, enemies-to-lovers romance! Brinkley Saunders works for Heartbreak for Hire (H4H), where she and her coworkers bring down the men who have wronged H4H's clients. One such "target" is the hero, Markus Cavanaugh. I love their meet-cute! It was unusual from other ones I've read. As it turns out, Mark is the wronged party and is unlike the picture his ex painted when she hired H4H. I can definitely understand why Brinkley falls for him! Circumstances force Brinkley and Mark to work together, and hilarity ensues as Brinkley trains Mark to become a Heartbreaker. Their journey to happily ever after is full of steam and witty banter. This was a charming story with well-written characters and a unique plot. I hope there will be books for the other Heartbreakers!

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I was really interested by the premise behind this novel and was excited to get the chance to read it. It's coming out in a couple months but I am not sure on my availability for posting this July so I figured I'd just read and post it a little early. The plot line on this was was different than the other romances I've read of late and it was a refreshing change of pace. Brinkley's profession is really what made this book so interesting to me. I felt terrible that she got screwed over so much but I loved how she stood up for herself in the end. Her "meet-cute" with Mark was really unusual too and it was just intriguing to me to see such a different plot line. I'd be interested to hear stories about the other H4H ladies falling in love too and their journeys. I'm not sure if Hartl is planning to do a series of sorts but I hope so! Overall this was an interesting and different book and was also a great romantic story. I would recommend it to other readers!

I am really shocked that I did not enjoy this book. The plot sounded really interesting and I wanted to love it, but the direction of the plot did not do it for me. For example, even though I knew that heartbreak for hire was going to hire men based on the book description, I was still really skeptical of the way this decision was explained in the book and the subsequent action of the characters. I was also frustrated by the way aspects of academia were portrayed. I so rarely DNF but something about this book didn’t do it for me and I didn’t want to read it anymore. However, I do encourage others to give it a shot! I can see how a lot of people might enjoy it

There are three rules at H4H:
1. Never trust a target
2. Never break character with a target
3. Never sleep with a target
Those rules go out the window when Brinkley Saunders walks in to find her next target—and immediately feels a connection.
She’s used to being revolted by her targets, so something doesn’t quite add up.
I really liked the idea behind this book. I loved the all-female group who worked tirelessly to bring down men who wronged their colleagues and love interests. I liked the misunderstood Mark who turns out to be the hero. Despite all those things, there seemed to be so much going on that at times it felt rushed. I feel that if there hadn’t been so many things happening at once, we would have had more time with the characters and moments that mattered.

There's a lot going on in this enemies to lovers romance. The heroine is employed by an agency that sabotages men who deserve it - they have usually taken advantage of some woman in their life, although there is not a lot of due diligence going on before these missions are undertaken.

While the two main characters were entertaining and had a lot of chemistry, I felt there were too many extraneous plotlines - the heroine's weird relationship with her mother, her desire to be an art gallery owner, and the sudden appearance of a father near the end. Overall, however, it was a fun read with a cute cover, and I'd like to hear more about the other Heartbreakers.

This book is such a great enemies to lovers story. Really a great light fall read!

Great recommendation for your friend who loves both a great love story and horrible guys getting their hearts crushed.

I really hope this author explores the other heartbreaker’s stories in future books!

Honesty, I found this book to be more than I expected. I initially went into it because I thought the Charlie's Angels, heartbreaking agency premise to be really fun and fresh, but to be honest, I didn't love the plot of the book. I also wish we got to know more about the characters a little bit more. I did find the whole father storyline a little bit unnecessary and shoehorned it at the last minute. But overall, I loved reading about the mini-mission sequences.

Sonia Hartl is a new to me author and when I read the book description it drew me in since it's about a female who is hired by women to take men down a notch who have done them wrong in some way. I immediately thought it would be a fun book to read.

Brinkley is one of 4 women employed at Heartbreak for Hire. All 4 women were hired by Margo, the founder, to help them overcome their traumatic events. Margo's claim that she is trying to help the 4 women gets weak as the story progresses. Each of the women specializes in taking down men who were guilty of the same thing men did to them - ex. belittles women or cheats on women. Brinkley claims she'll stop working at Heartbreak once she has enough money saved to pursue her dream of opening an art gallery. Turns out she's an artist who loves to paint.

When Margo hires men, Brinkley is shocked to find her most recent target, Mark, is now her trainee and will be working with her, Mark works at the university but longs to be a middle school teacher. Neither is doing what they really want and Mark taking a job at Heartbreak for Hire just seemed a bit odd as there's no backstory on why.

Brinkley and Mark are your typical enemies to lovers couple and have some deep chemistry, though they fight it quite a bit which results in some steamy parts as their passion ignites and can't be tamed.

I liked both of the main characters, Brinkley and Mark, overall and found them to be pretty relatable. I was totally rooting for Brinkley and Mark as they brought out the best in each other. One of the best conflicts in the book was the relationship Brinkley has with her mom. Her relationship with Margo had the potential to be more as did the co-worker relationships at Heartbreaks for Hire. The other women made somewhat random appearances.

Brinkley develops and grows as a person throughout the story and eventually comes to realize that she no longer needs to get revenge on other men for what her ex did to her - the best way to deal with it is to work on yourself - and is finally able to move on and pursue her dreams.

Overall, I really enjoyed this rom-com as it was an enjoyable, quick read. It was funny, steamy, and enjoyable.

** Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion. **

I loved this book! It was such a cute and fun story line! The main character is so funny! I loved all of the characters. This book has drama, friendship, comedy and romance. There were a few twists and it always kept me engaged in the book.

Heartbreak for Hire was a very fun enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, which, turns out, is maybe my new favorite genre? Brinkley and Mark have amazing chemistry and it was good to see that they brought the best in each other which sometimes is not the case with this genre. That said, the actual business of heartbreaking made me uncomfortable as some of the stuff these women did definitely felt illegal and there wasn't a good system where they did background checks on their customers. I would have liked to see the characters be even more critical of that. But overall, read it in one sitting!
