This was a quick, fun read to pass the time. I’d take this book to the beach for a girls’ trip and thought it was a cute romance.

Enemies to loves trope, which I am always a sucker for, gives this book an edge that makes up for the overly mean-spiritedness of the entire Heartbreak 4 Hire premise. Women taking men down a peg or two can cross the line pretty easily and this book tip toes it. There is witty dialogue and sexy scenes that make up for any shortcomings. Overall I really enjoyed the book.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
What can I say - I'm a sucker for a light hearted romantic book. This was a cute read. I couldn't put it down. It's the perfect beach read!

This book was okay.. it started out interesting but i grew bothered by the portrayal that all men were scum who either cheated on or screwed over women and needed to be taught a lesson. And dont forget that on top of that anyone in "academia " is also a backstabbing enemy.
I didnt really care about or feel for the characters. Some of the other employees at H4H worked longer "jobs" .. does that mean they were banging their targets for months as part of their job??? How else are they working months to "annihilate " someone for being a cheater?
I'm still giving it 3 stars though as it was an easy, light read

Brinkley Saunder's job is to seek revenge for jilted lovers, co-workers who need someone taken down a notch,, and those that have done women wrong. It's not her dream job but, it pays well and is helping her save for the art gallery. It has also helped her deal with the demons of her ex-boyfriend. But, when her boss announces that for the first time ever she will hire male heartbreakers and the one she was assigned to work with is one of her former marks whose name happens to be Mark, she is not happy. Will Mark get her to trust again?
Be warned the book has some steamy parts so it you are not looking for that then this might not be the book for you. I enjoyed reading it and there were some very fun moments.

I enjoyed this story so much! What a clever concept; for that plus the steamy romance, it gets 4 stars.
Unfortunately, there were some character issues that affected the plot. *Brief spoilers* We learn Brinkley (what an awful name) had an emotionally abusing ex who told her she sucked in bed, however, she has no confidence issues with Mark during their sexual encounters (arguably her first in a very long time). The entire father storyline was unnecessary and there were many easier ways to bring Brinkley and her mother together, especially since there is no resolution to her even speaking to the father. Perhaps my biggest issue though was with the lack of understanding of Margo and her motives. We get this fresh concept for a business, one the entire book is centered on, but it all falls apart by the end and it feels very flat and strange.
I liked this one and will definitely check out more from this author but I hope she is able to pay attention to development more; the romance was there, but adding in a bunch of other (might I say interesting and worth exploring) elements and not doing them justice left me feeling disappointed by the end.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Absolute delight!
Perfect combination of sweet, smart and sexy.
I think anyone who is a fan of rom-coms will enjoy this book.
I love the witty banter between the characters, the chemistry, steamy scenes and the overall fun storyline.
The connection between Mark and Brinkley is undeniable and the sexual tension was flying off the pages.
It really hooked me in!

This was a really fun concept – a startup where women are hired to break the hearts of men who’ve hurt other women. (Can’t say I agree with it, but I could totally see someone starting it.) Without giving too much away, the heroine is busy doing her job when she starts falling for one of her targets. This was somewhat predictable, but not in a roll-your-eyes way, and it definitely kept me reading – I finished in two days! This wasn’t quite as saccharine as some rom coms, and I liked it a lot.

If you LOVE romcoms, and I mean witty banter between two characters, insane chemistry, steamy scenes, and just an overall fun storyline then add Heartbreak for Hire to your TBR ASAP.
Brinkley works at Heartbreak for Hire, which is a company that specializes in revenge for jilted lovers, frenemies, and long-suffering coworkers with a little cash to spare and a man who needs to be taken down a notch. But when her boss announces she’s hiring male heartbreakers for the first time, Brinkley’s no longer so sure she’s doing the right thing—especially when her new coworker turns out to be a target she was paid to take down.

The premise of this book first caught my eye, so I was really excited to read it! Its concept seemed really fun, and I was in need of a fun book. Heartbreak for Hire was a fun romance.
After a bad break-up and dropping out of grad school, Brinkley began working for Heartbreak for Hire, a company that specializes at getting back at men who’ve mistreated women, whether it be exes, boyfriends, or co-workers. One night, she slips and goes home with Mark, an assignment, although she panics and leaves his apartment abruptly. Later, she finds out that Heartbreak for Hire was hiring men, one of whom is Mark.
I liked the characters well enough. Brinkley has a dream of being an artist and opening a gallery, but she’s never actually really taken the steps to pursuing it. Instead, she’s content enough to work at Heartbreak for Hire, getting revenge in lieu of sticking it to her ex-boyfriend. Soon she realizes that this job is becoming more of a chore and emotionally taxing, especially as she begins to see that her boss never really cared for her in the first place. Mark’s character arc was interesting too, if a little rushed; he’s competing for a full-time professor position even though his heart isn’t really into the cutthroat nature of higher academics.
The romance was nice, and their chemistry together was obvious from the start. Even when they dislike each other, you can see their attraction for each other. I liked reading their scenes together; their bickering was entertaining to read.
At first, I found Brinkley’s relationship with her mother a bit strange because their scenes together had so much animosity. I did grow to like their dynamic more as time went on. As much as her mom nags her, she does care for Brinkley even if she has a hard time showing it.
Again, I thought the premise seemed fun at first, but honestly I think this book would have benefited from leaning into the absurdity of some of the situations instead of normalizing it. The way Heartbreak for Hire operates was already flimsy at best, but when the narrative tried to present it as a normal thing, I couldn’t help but focus on the holes in everything about it. I know that part of Brinkley’s character arc is realizing that working for Margo at H4H wasn’t what she initially thought, but she’d been there for two years and all of the red flags were immediately obvious to me.
In the end, I think too many aspects of it just didn’t tie together enough for me, but I did enjoy the book for the most part! It was fun and had a good romance. If you’re looking for a fun, quick romance to read, you may like Heartbreak for Hire!

Fun, full of hilarious banter, and sexy as hell. Hartl is as funny in her adult debut as in her YA books. The premise of having an agency set up to get revenge on horrible men is an absolute delight, even when it starts to lose some of its luster for Brinkley. Throw in academia, art, and a hot professor in a sweater vest and you have a very fun book for all your summer beach reading.

I've been in such a reading slump lately, so I decided to randomly choose an Advanced Reader copy in my much-too-large stack. I am so happy I did, because I found another 5 star read! This book is an enemies-to-lovers trope with laughs, intrigue, and a little bit of "spice." I absolutely loved everything about this book. The relationship between Brinkley and Mark made me so happy I am married, or else my jealousy would be off the charts. From meeting when she was a heartbreaker, to their banter when seeing each other again had me turning the pages more and more.
Add to that the side story of what secrets Brinkley's mother was keeping, the relationships Brinkley had with ex-friends from her college days, the dynamics of her heartbreaking workplace changing (hello women avenging the wrongs men foist upon us!), and Brinkley trying to find her path to her future, and this book became one of my favorites.

I loved this book! I fell in love with all of the characters and found myself rooting for everyone to pull it together and live the lives they were meant for. Seriously, this was such a fun read. I didn't realize this author had written YA previously, and I'm so excited now to go back and check out all of her previous books!

Wow. This story touched me on so many levels. It was so much more than a love story. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more from her. It was intense and so very moving. I loved it.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC! I was excited to read this one as it felt like it had all the makings of a cute contemporary rom-com with an enemies to lovers trope.
In this book we are introduced to Brinkley who has a pretty unconventional job. Think about it as a modern day 007, an agency full of women that specialize in taking down egomaniacs. Full of women, that is, until her boss decides to bring some men into the agency (I mean there are egomaniac women too).
We meet Mark in the very beginning, in a passionate make out romp with our lead Brinkley. She stops abruptly and bolts out the door. Imagine Brinkley’s shock when Mark turns out being one of the men her boss hires and (twist!) asks her to train him.
The book started out well, with witty banter and a sassy female lead. But unfortunately it didnt hold steady for me. This book fell a little short for a couple of reasons:
1) Character development was not fully baked
- I love layered characters, and I just dont think we made it above surface level for either Brinkley or Mark. We might have gotten down to second layer with Brinkley but we skimmed it.
2) Our hero isnt really all that lovable, he made me cringe a few times.
3) I couldnt get emotionally invested into any of the characters..
4) Lack of buildup (need angst!).
I really wanted to love this book. Overall I’m giving this one a 3.

EEP!! I loved this book so much!! The dynamic between Brinkley and Mark was soooo good. I could imagine just how attractive Mark was by the way Brinkley described and listed after him. Veryyyy sexy from the get go, heartwarming and endearing. So so cute

This book is soooo good and such a great women's empowerment read!! Sonia is able to weave a BUNCH of tropes into the book without making it seem overdone or cheesy and still be really unique. I absolutely loved the idea of women going around avenging other scorned women, but I also really love how the book begins questioning the premise and wondering if this is actually helping the girls heal. The way that Brinkley was able to find herself in the end was sooo empowering and I love how the book both used and challenged these conventional tropes.
Also, I really love how the characters were written. Even though I thought Brinkley was really selfish and childish at times, she's still so loveable and you can't help but root for her. (the only thing that R E A L L Y bothered me is how she went to a fancy French restaurant and asked for KETCHUP on her DUCK!!! one of my worst pet peeves are people who literally cannot appreciate food and try to ruin it with their white American-ness [I'm looking at you Emily in Paris] 🤮🤮). But if you can get over Brinkley's lack of taste in food, I really enjoyed this book and think it's such a fun, light read!

I like cheesy chick lit because it’s usually easy and heartwarming, and sometimes I laugh. But this didn’t do it for me. I’m not sure if the author phoned it in or what but the book more like a refined first draft than a well thought out finished product.
The story is about a woman, Brinkley, who is so jilted from a former relationship that she works for this kinda mysterious woman’s ‘heartbreak agency.’ The gist is that other jilted women can hire them get eye for an eye revenge on a man who screwed them over. Of course, she ends up falling for one of the guys and their lives turn out to be more entwined that it seems on the surface.
The premise is kinda out there but I can live with that. Here’s where I had a hard time.
1. All of the characters are unlikeable. Brinkley questions the ethics of what she’s doing but never seems serious about that.
2. The guy, Mark, is actually pretty slimy in a few different ways.
3. The characters mother has been keeping secrets from Brinkley while also treating her terribly for years.
4. Brinkley’s boss says she’s helping the people she employs but she clearly isn’t.
There is set up here for what could have been really great character development but it never happens. Huge revelations come out on at least three occasions but it is just glossed over every time.
Overall, missed opportunity for a potentially interesting book.
Despite my thoughts, big thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for the ARC.

I requested this book because i found the premise interesting, and it did not disappoint. Brinkley, an academia drop-out, works for Heartbreak for Hire, a company women can hire to serve revenge to men who have wronged them. Brinkley joined the company after a terrible relationship, and it helped her to heal the wounds from that relationship while saving money to open her art gallery. Only women work as Heartbreakers, until her boss switches it up and hires males as well. Not only does this go against the "feminist" ideals of the job, but Brinkley's new co-worker ends up being a target she was once paid to take down—and the only target she was her true self around. As Brinkley trains Mark, she starts to feel deep feelings for him. She also starts to question her job—is this job really helping women?—and if it's what she wants to do long term, especially now that she has the money saved to open her gallery.
I truly did not see the twists coming here. Often times you have a sense of what's going to happen to drive the main characters apart, but I was not ready for this one. The reason I gave four stars here is because if I was Brinkley, I would not have let Mark back so quickly after what he had done. Especially after she had targets who had done awful things like that to women before, she seemed too quick to forgive.
My favorite part about this romance was the questioning of what it means to be feminist. Brinkley initially loved her job because it got revenge on misbehaving men for women who were wronged. But then she started to question if this is what it means to be feminist—short term revenge, instead of enacting real change for women. I loved the transformation of her thought here, and how, in the end, she found a new way to uplift women in her community in a more substantial way.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

Heartbreak for Hire was everything I want in an escape read. It was smart, steamy (although if I have one criticism, it was a little too much for me), laugh out loud funny, and I found myself cheering hard for Brinkley the whole time. I worried that I would be eye rolling about the concept of the company at the center of the plot, but I bought it and it added a lot of color to the book. Don't let it dissuade you from reading this gem.
I received a complimentary copy of Heartbreak for Hire in exchange for this review.
